This isn't really an advertisement this is just more like a claim.

I've been working on an map called The Assault Of Silence for about a month

now and its ready for release so I'll be putting it up on quite a few websites,

its not big news alot of new maps are always coming out, there is one

problem although. We have been testing it for about two weeks and in

that time my Clan I made it for: Clan PSI has come under fire. Two other

Clan's now lay claim to the map. Another clan who did minor work clan Band
now lays claim to it, saying that it should be a "Clan PSI and Clan Band

Production". In response to our refusal to accommodate them with that

much credit they threatened to hack us and we got some nice SS's to send

into Blizzard. Although there is rumor that they are still going to release the

map soon as well. Any real map maker knows that people who would steal

others maps are simply lowlives due to the amount of time it takes to make

a working well triggered map. I made this post not to advertise or draw

fire, but instead to lay claim to what I made and rightfully deem as my

own. Thanks you for your time.

Next time use vex's optimizer on any playable versions of map.

That stops 99% of map stealers dead.

The ones it doesn't stop can't be stopped by any method and you gotta just live with it if they steal your map. Now that people have your map, there's nothing you can do about it.

No-man:

What involvement did Clan Band have in developing this map? If they had any involvement in testing and improving the triggering effects, their name should be mentioned. I do agree that there is a limit to the amount of credit one should receive for the degree of effort, so please be more specific as to the amount of involvement in developing The Assault of Silence.

Also, this belongs in the Map Forge. I would recommend this be moved by one of our mods. Good luck with your efforts, and I hope it all works out.

To answer the involvement of Clan Band and the credit they received:

Before they became angered at our refusal to give them the full title the wanted that said the map was a "Clan PSI and Clan Band Production", we had the names of their members on the loading screen and in the game quest credits, ample credit for doing practically nothing.

What the people did: An occasional idea such as "Hey man it would be cool if something like ______ was put in" I took some of their ideas and gave them credit until the altercations. They never once opened the editor and helped us in that respect. They also acted like they did a disturbing amount of work on the map, acting like they worked on triggers, importing models, terrain when they actually did not. We had no issues with them doing this for a while until they simply acted like they did an extensively larger part then they actually did.

Well, that's probably because they're not mapmakers. People who don't understand what mapmakers do either laugh at the 'efforlessnesslawl' or consider the mapmaker a programming god (such as is the case of hardcore dota fans in relation to icefrog)

Anyway, go ahead uberfast and finish anything that needs finishing and release a polished, protected version of the map. Either that or just scrap the project. Nothin else you can do, especially since there is no legal claim of anyone to the map, except for blizz.

I've put up a polished, protected version on a few sites, and I plan to update them enough that if anyone else tries to steal the map their versions will be left in the dust.

Hey, this is RaptorBlaze, one of the shamans of clan PSI,
Noman posted the protected version at http://www.epicwar.com/maps/14616/ (the protection is my contribution to the project :) )

I'm sort of irritated that this popped up here. I don't really care about clans bickering ect. I also don't like when costum maps are brought into the wc3 melee section. However I acknowledge that getting your map stolen sucks. It's a dick move for anyone to take claim to anything because of some "ideas". I can respect that especially because my brother is a programmer, payed internship for microsoft and he's a junior in college. I guess part of the reason i'm P.O.ed is because a lot of people post once or twice for what ever gain on these boards. Then jump ship once they get thier answers ect. I need new people to beat the ever living snot out of....

For future reference map forge is THE place to be for anything custom map related. The guys in there, KNOW thier stuff.

And that this may serve us as today's lesson 'kids'. :) Only release unprotected testing versions if you really trust the fellows you're working with, if you don't even want to risk map stealing (and related) ordeals.

Although I suppose that this is somewhat unnecessary because I know that can trust most, if not all, of the regulars here at WB's. *Wink, wink* Rule of thumb (aka common sense) tells it all, I guess.

No matter you belong to any clan or whatever, if you are a mapper, then you are... Stealers must get their ass boomed!

BTW, what uberfoop said is corect, Finish the map and publish it, Put a note that you did it and get it circulating on Major wc3 mod sites. That's only gr8 thing from which you can stop stealers from publishing the map.

On map forge, it doesn't matter what clan you belong to. Neither show it off nor be complex of it. I myself joined Clan CBS, I believe none other knew of it except few people around. It doesn't really matter now.

hehe i am protecting/optimizing the maps myself, i even went all out to crack into my own work and i can't make sense of the triggers anymore, but the map still works fine. I don't think anyone would seriously want to crack it badly enough to go through and decode all that....

Problem solved then. :)

And if was a protection tool, may we know it's name (and eventual site link) for other mappers here to be able to use it they think it necessary? ;)

Has someone program for protecting maps?

The Vexorian stuff (http://www.warboards.org/showthread.php?t=9291) usually protects maps quite well or so I heard. ;)

I believe ExtProtect does the Best.
