Should one be in single player before playing on B.net with any skill?

Able to beat 3 computers? 4? etc... :)

Thanks... I don't want to get slammed when I first get on :)

You could beat 7 computers, get on B.net, and still get slamed. It's pretty much a given. (at least if you play anyone who's decent)

So you'll just have to suck it up, and go in firing.

Edit:
I really don't care about losing... I just don't want to be like "OMG I am getting killed by 20 lots, and I only had one tank" or somesuch :D

one should have beaten the campaigns or most of them at least

haha... there's all differant skills on bnet... as long as you can beat one computer (should hopefully be every time, but not vital) then you have enough skill to have fun, and improve, on bnet. there's gosu on bnet. there's the whole range of normal skills. and there's the biggest noobs the world has ever seen. so hf ;p
oh and, fighting human opponents is quite differant to computers... differant fighting styles, differant tactics needed... for instance, DON'T build tons of cannons and hope they'll just run a couple of zealots at a time on them... they won't. a normal person sees tons of cannons at your choke, they'll contain and mass expand... or go reaver drop... or something. don't worry, you'll learn.
beware fastest map possible.
yar, 1 tank+block+scvs repairing>20 lots ;p

Yeah, but you won't get good until you experience how they play it online. So basically, you have to lose, and you'll probably lose bad. And a lot.

heh? If they are still on zlots what are you doing at tanks? Go bats, computers are suprisingly easy to beat... you can even rush them... B.net, everyone has their own strat, you don't know what your going to fight against.

I 2 Starport BC rushed a computer the other day. Went early expand with almost no def at all. I had to rebuild the cc at my natural 2 times. (3 total times.) Would never have worked against a human. Ever. But I had like 3 BC's in 8 minutes I think. Then I just raped the computer. Kept pumping from those 2 ports. Ended up with like 18 BC's and nothing else aside from 4-5 tanks and SCV's. It was funnnnnny.

Anyways, that said.... Computers and humans are totally different. Computers don't exploit weak spots like humans do. When humans see a strong def at your choke, they'll go for a drop. A computer usually just pours units into your def. lol. Players are also more abstract. Like other people said, you never know what you'll be facing. With computers (no matter how many), you basically know.

Just a game.

You can say: "It's just X" out of anything but imo somethings still do matter ooa

yes, but in this case losing doesn't matter.

Worse shit has happened...like, "OMG, I'm getting killed by 6 carriers and I don't have an armory or starport" -_-

When I played lost in wb vs shak that almost happened: I countered his proxy gate rush and after that I had huge adventage. Lost built 10 pylon up his ramp and I thought "ok he is giving up now but I dont take any risk so I make big army and take second expansion". 5 minutes later I attacked. Lost had been doing 1base carry and had 4 of them waiting yet I didnt have armory T_T luckily I had some huge army was able to kill his main with vulture tank and even make gols before he was able to kill be ._.

How many computers should you be able to beat? hmm how about 5 of Ahzz's AI?

i think with computers it's not how many you can beat, but how you beat them. if you can beat them in certain ways, then you're above average for public bnet games. but just beating them in general doesn't help you necessarily against real players, since computers are so different.

for instance, if you can take down two comps with a 2 fac vult rush, finishing them off with tanks, you are doing pretty well. but anyone can hold a ramp and get BC's or cliff them or whatever. you can win pvp by building two zealots and a photon and then going 1 base carriers, but that doesn't prove anything that is useful in bnet 1v1s. but if you can 2 gate rush a toss and outmicro them and beat them, without missing a pylon, stopping your gates, or losing a zealot, you're all right. same thing with doing a speedlings build--can you kill all their probes without losing a ling? or a proxy BBS... can you beat the protoss's zeal rush using that build? if you can do all these things, you have real potential on bnet. otherwise comps are useless, because they're useless strategically (they don't scout, they do poor builds, they know what you're doing and react without scouting it, they can't micro, expand at bad times...).

you still will have to learn strategy for 1v1, as the strategies the comps do are very strange and weak, but you can prove a high level of basic proficiency against comps, if you do it the right way.

Not humanly possible.

Just don't mess around with the Blizzard comp. I didn't even do the campaigns, just got on B.net as soon as I was able to beat Ahzz's AI on all match ups. Take it from me, you'll lose alot, but you'll get better every time.

Though there isn't much point in devising strategies solely geared at annihilating computers, here's my idea:

Guardian Rush.

Yes, you heard me, Guardian Rush.

Start out with a basic 12 hatch, but place the 2nd hatch near your choke. Build a couple of sunkens to defend against possible early attacks. Tech like mad, (be sure to build queen's nest before spire) and wtfpwn everything with guardians. (This is most effective vs. Protoss and Terran, less so vs. Zerg)

You might want to consider getting gas at 9, btw.
There might be safer and easier methods, but this is a riot. I always enjoy doing it.

but it sucks. I'll be able to bring a tank, more m&M that you can handle and even build some wraiths since its so obvious, and gg. oh, and a expansion too.
If I'm P I'd start off with corsair anyway and do more of them and with the aid of storm I'd easily defeat it.

I played for a full year on B-net before I could be confident in winning games. There are still people who can make me look like a total newb still. Everyone has their learning curves, it all depends on you.

It doesn't macro, I just think it has specific BOs.
