View Full Version : What's level got to do, got to do, got to do with it?

A catchy toon if anyone gets the reference, but on a more serious note. I often take breaks from WC3, and thusly lose my levels and do not get to contend with better players. Why should levels prevent me from playing players that are better than me. I have no room to learn because I am always facing "meh" players. The occassional good player that strolls by, I am never to face again. How does one solve this dilema other than harassing good players on warboards to play him:)

Is there a method of leveling quickly? Other than trying your best every game and stacking ladder after ladder game.

I have thought of some things

Apply a heavy dose of ownage from redrag or cole. Side effects may include getting owned, head aches, and sudden bleeding from the ears(sometimes the brain can't handel the ownage and melts)

Face nedech, (last time I remember we were on par, it coulda changed easily with my absence)

Or may I request a sticky on the forums for a thread involving challenges? It would be nice to have the community come together. We could also post replays and give feedback accordingly. However, previous attempts at such things(namely grog and his zeal in trying to throw it together) have fallen apart. Is there something that we, as a wc3 community can come together 1 day and just play each other. It would help me, and i'm sure, many other players. Just don't start without me!

Also, to not make this a, "zomg lets make a clan" (which would be nice)thread and have it shut down. Please only consider the 3rd option as much as the other 2 and your own. Thank-ee

I would love to play any of you guys, but every time i go on Azeroth i find all off you being offline. I might have the wrong account names though.
It's hard to keep tabs on peoples nicks when they smurf all the effing time. Mind you, RR. ^^

I'm also thinking off switching to Northrend, i'm sick off laddering all the time and not being able to train with someone. Most people on northrend can't speak english (properly) so it's hard to get to know people.

Set up a date and i'll be there.

The first KotH worked. But yeah, all my other shit has failed. I'm sorry.

Guess I'll have to actually install WC3 again and own you bitches like it's 1999.

Yeah, that's the spirit! I'll set a date with you grog(bring flowers), I don't care if you lay down a hot serving of ownage. Your going down, I don't care how many footies and archmages it takes to kill you!!

Also, gatta hand it to nedech RR. You smurf more than Madana sells out. Get me a computer with internet, I'm going to rip out all of your spleans and digest them.

Your going to have to wait a couple of weeks. Currently, my laptop(the only computer that will let me play wc3) has an error that won't allow me to access to OS. So currently, i'm waiting on a friend to DL all the data I have on a USB drive. From there, he has to reinstall my OS, and put all my crap back on my computer. I'll need access to another mouse, have to set up my wireless card. Walk next door, download patch 1.21. Now for the long part, responding to all my friends on vent and wc3. That part will take about 3 days. My laptop will be fixed in about 2 weeks in all seriousness.

BTW doyah, once I get the new vent Ip, i'll walk ya through all that jazz. THEN we can start a game, after I open the ports, and do a spyware check/virus check to make sure nothing is blocking them. I won't go easy on you the first game, until I know where your at. Then i'll collect a replay pack with some explinations in it(I have one compiled for orc on my desktop) basicly the 101 of what ever race you wanna play.

Well i had a few games and im at 0 again. I used to be alright but anyway.
Cant micro for shit, cant macro anymore :(.

Im going to try for Orc seeing as they were my best, im gunna go and do some 2v2's so i can get the hang of the game again, its been 2 long years of no WC3 and its hella hard to play again

Look up redrag's guide, then go 2v2 your heart out.

Little research never hurt anyone(unless your a mad scientist). I've been doing tons because I can't play. Amazingly, just by keeping my eyes on vods and playing against the computer, I think I might be slightly better. We will see though, no way to test it until the time comes.

I'm afraid the title did not quite fit the Tina Turner song you are referring to. I've therefore changed the title so that it does.

Next of all, you do not get matched against players who are the same level as you. This is perhaps another thing to stick in the Troubleshooting Thread when I have the chance.

The Battle.net system works by estimating your average skill level, and it gives you an ELL (Estimated Ladder Level) which is equal to the highest level Battle.net believes you capable of reaching. Think of it as a shadow level - you can't see it, but the BNet matchmaking system can, and you can have a reasonable estimate.

Therefore, you will never get matched against anyone "really good" (ie. 40+) unless your ELL breaks 40, which requires about 9-0 on a smurf, and then to keep up that level on a constant basis. I reached 9-0 once by a little bit of a fluke (my 9th opponent turtled and I Gruntapult pushed him - GG) but I then proceeded to lose 5 of my next 6 games.

The only other way to get matched against 40+ players is when they're smurfing and their ELL is still low.

So, to get matched against good players (get a high ELL) there's a few options.

Option 1: Participate in the GGClient Ladder system. At www.gg-game.com (http://www.gg-game.com), there is a GGClient which allows you to play with others anywhere in the world, and it usually reduces lag by quite a lot. They have a ladder which is frequented by players better than me. It's basically where I go when I want to get owned.

Option 2: Participate in WCGZone. This can be done by heading over to www.wcgzone.com (http://www.wcgzone.com) and downloading the GamOn Client, which allows you to play in monthly leagues frequented by a mix of wonderful players and average players who want the "WCG Pro Gamer" icon that comes with the signup.

Option 3: Have an account boosted to a higher ELL for you. Time-consuming, because assuming I or someone else from the forums got to an ELL of 35/40 by reaching 7, 8 or 9-0 on a smurf, you'd get about 5 or 6 games before you'd drop back to an ELL of about 30.

In conclusion, I recommend option 1.

As for events involving WarBoardians, organised by ourselves - well, I appreciate your enthusiasm, but it's extremely difficult. Game Nights have been arranged before, but with everyone in different Time Zones, it's difficult to assemble everyone at the same time. A WB WC League was once arranged by myself, but that failed when only one game was played in the first week of matches (between me and Yoda). KotH was arranged, and worked for a good few months, then slowly fell apart. That's the best shot we've had so far.

In short, there aren't enough dedicated WC players here, time zones make it difficult to get more than about 3 or 4 people in one place at one time, and leagues and tournaments result in getting 20 signups and... 3 or 4 players.

It's hard to keep tabs on people nicks when they smurf alot the effing time. Mind you, RR.

I lol'd.

I wish GroG's consistency of play wasn't affected so severely by his morale.

Otherwise, I do rather enjoy playing and I'm a little more active here lately since the wife and kids tend to pass out at around 9-10PM. It's a good habit, though, since I don't think the kids were getting enough sleep for a while there. :/ But yeah, my nick is GenocideAlive. f-add me and msg me during a game in all caps over and over "THIS IS HOBGOBLIN / NEDTECH / etc F-ADD ME".

If you do it just once, I probably won't even notice. I focus pretty hard. :)

I just installed today before class, I'll probably start laddering tonight after work after I d/l patch. Not sure which race I'll use this time. I'll post my account when I log on and create it. Anyone looking for me, I'm usually on BNET on SC or now TFT after 8pm CST on weekdays after work.

Also, if your facing meh players, when you start winning a bunch then you'll face hard players. That's the way it is, it's like a rollercoaster. 5 matches you'll win in a row, 5 you'll lose. Although, if your improving, you might lose 4 or 3 instead of 5, so your win% goes up.

Or you could just create a new account when you lose a game. ... good luck with that.

What channel you guys hang in now? JHAD is dead, from what I hear.

When i'm on, i'm in channel Wanna, but i'm perfectly willing to switch. I'm simply afraid to get back into warcraft 3 at the cost of my happiness. I shouldn't over do it. Also, thanks for switching my amazing title redrag. Pff tech thread my arse, my threads of late have been nothing but gold son. GOLD! Besides, it's not like your a moderater or anything. So now I know where to go to get owned, wewt! Maybe i'll see nilknarf, hoorai!

Assorted. I can usually be found in Clan FoH. JHAD was indeed disbanded, and Ghetto joined WGDF. Cole was online a couple of days ago, he just seems to hang out in whatever channel he wants to.

We all have our moments of sucktitude GA. I remember one time I went on this new sleeping pill. I was playing with a friend and I kept telling him, dude I can't play(I remember having to desperately concentrate on placing down an alter with the 4k.tod build. Desperately). When I woke up the next day, I went online and sayd, Dude, I had the wierdest dream last night. He had to explain to me, it wasn't a dream and gave me the replay haha.

What map? If you're talking about creeping the Lab on Twisted Meadows, forget about it. Creep the expo's and the Goblin Shop, not the Lab (at least, not until you have Priests and Morts). I know, I tried creeping the Lab myself, and it's a real bitch. You have to let your BM get focused until he's in the red while your Peasants focus down the Mud Golem and the Rock Golem. 2 Flamestrikes on the Trolls, and you still don't have it cleared. Also, try two groups of militia, 1 group of 8 and another group of whatever's left, 6-7? Take the first group and click 'w' on individual militia to send them back. Once you've sent your first 2-3 back, militia that extra group and send them in to finish the job. By that point, the Mud Golem should be gone and the Rock Golem in the red. The reinforcements should finish the job. If you get caught, though, it's GG for ya.

Yeah, well, I remember having creeped it all the time, I don't know why I suddenly decided that 6-7 peasants should be enough to clear it. But I did, and when we all rushed over there they just ALL DIED. Then I brought in a bunch more to try to finish it off, but the Golem was being healed by that fagass troll and those ALL DIED. So my red BM and 2 peasants (I brought MORE) finally finished the camp. I was down about 15 or so peasants from that camp. That did NOT go well.
