I am a noob when it comes to StarCraft BroodWar. I'm not sure if there is another thread like this. Anyway, if you want, please, post some strategies here. Not just for me, but for all noobs that visit Warboards.

Now, if you care, a little about me:
As I voted on SC.org, I am a BroodWar player for about 3 years. But I haven't EVER played against a human opponent. Only the computer. And the games are so long, Ican't finish them.(I get bored and quit) Any strategies, advices or something else?;)

1. Comps will get you nowhere.

2. I saw a "noob bible" somewhere that stated something as the major key in SC: you ALWAYS have to be doing something (which I of course don't do either :P)

3. BO. A must have.

4. Some people say "start with toss", "no, OMFG you noob, start with your favorite even if you suck", "no, you're both wrong, start with the one you're best at it even if you hate it". I dunno the answer to this question. I play zerg because I love zerg, even if I'm not that good at it. Most people say start with toss because it brings a calm early game, it's the most efficient (in building things) and because it handles macro over micro; they often say I'm not that agressive as zerg and I should change to toss: I say "MEH!" I won't give up just because I suck at zerg game, although I might try toss a few times. I totally hate terran :(

5. DL the micro packs out there.

6. Analise (or ask) which BO is best in which situation: you can look here if interested in zerg BO:

7. REPLAYS. TONS. At first try to mimic what the pros do, then develop your own style.

8. Don't look for strats in sc.org. At least not until Ahzz and Lammas clean up the lame strats (they BETTER be chosen).

9. IMPORTANT: DON'T PLAY MONEY MAPS IF YOU'RE GONNA TAKE THIS SERIOUS. Some people say that money maps boost your macro, bla bla bla, but I wouldn't count on it. I haven't seen a decent player support money maps as a training routine.

10. Don't be rude in BN, we already got enough assholes there ;)

This is of course a very basic list, and I probably missed some important things. Wait for the experts to view this thread :)

Well, whats your favorite? Terran? Zerg? Toss?
I know some strategies with all of them (But I'm not a good player, I only have won with rushes but I have watched some good strategys)

If you want to work on build order competency while finally beating comps, find the build orders to do the following...

9 pool speedlings: should beat any comps. may take some micro against toss though.
2 fac vultures: should beat any comps (switch to tanks once you are mining them)
9 gate gate: should beat terran and zerg. beats protoss when they do their nexus build, maybe their dt build. but if they are doing their zealots build, you will have to change strategies or micro pretty well.

To get better and play games that actually end first try a race your fmiliar with and a map or study one on the editor.

Dont play money maps. Most first timers go terran cause its easy to understand. Every one knows what a marine is or a tank and from there its easy to figure out hot keys and controlling many units at once. Harder to start in toss or zerg cause who the hell knows what a hydra is right of the back or what a templar does. But easier to play with. Terran are harder to controll because all units depend on other units: marines need medics and firebats, tanks need support from small units and some air, air need ground always to draw fire, ghost need some units in transport when nukeing just incase, tanks and air ships as well as goliaths need scv for repairs which is hard to go to each one and do this.

A good and in my opinion the best map is killing fields. Try goin to the multiplayer and filling all the slots with comps so you can go top vs. botton which is just your team of 4 vs. a team of 4.

Never stay in one base and mass deffense or on a single unit. Always try to expand and build another mineing base soon possibly be first to expand on a high rise and later islands. If you go all deffense you get nowhere but as far as you build deffense buildings and go broke spending all you money on deffense and upgrades and later have no cash for an army or expansions.

Build as many bases as possible and try to vary your units but have a main unit to be your back bone. Like hydras with zerglins to take the first hit and take down marines, tanks, and reavers; queens and defylers to back up with special abilities; and lurkers to protect your back and sacrifice them to take the punch and the draw attention. So just try to use every unit to its full potential. Avoid big, expensive, flashy units like carriers, battlecruisers, and ultralisk unless your rich because they draw all fire and attention so they are first to die; if you have tons of money and a good army then go ahead. If you go a zerglins your open to an air attack, go all air and you'll find air units are very very weak. The only unit that can function fine alone to a certain extent is the Dragoon and the Hydra. But still need reavers and queens. And always have detecers ready at hand and scouting.

Try goin more offensive and attacking along with your allies. The enemy might have a large army but by combining forces and races you can win and its harder to deffend against two or more different people each hitting you by controling a different army even with smaller numbers and weaker units.

By goin on a four on four team you can learn to coordinate and not sit back but attack. Dont wait to mass up before attacking the more you mass the more the enemy masses. Try not to let your oponent expand and have time to build by constantly sending small armies to keep them down while you mine, expand, and mass up for a full scale attack.

actually i've changed my mind about protoss comps. you should be able to beat them with a dual proxy gate, all you have to do is outmicro them, which is easy because you can pick their zeals off one at a time pretty much.

so there you have it, three builds that can you can beat all three races of comps with.

What? NO. Playing vs. comp is bad enough, 4 vs. 4 is probably the worst thing you can do. Play on Lost Temple on 1vs1, it's probably the most common and easy map on B.net.

i am a n00b to,but i can beat 3 comps,i finished all campaigns,a good startegy with terran is this:
Build scv tel you run out of food,then build a suply depot,and start a baraks,when the suply is buil built another baraks and a suply,the a bunker to you base enstrnces and fil them with marines,then buil a eng bay and an academy,build trops,buld turrets,they are detector,then build 2 factories,add on them,research spider mines and siege mode,build 2 tanks and 4 vultures,place the tanks near the bunkers and place mines to,then play as you wish,if you do it wel you win,i did this many times,works with 'toss to:D
