View Full Version : Unofficial ORG.Net Wiki is back...

The new url is http://wiki.kupatrix.com/ and, as always, will be included in my signature.

The backup I used MAYBE slightly out of date, however, everything seems to be working, and the wiki seems to be working alright. I edited a couple pages to test it out, as well as viewed a couple pages, graphics, etc...

A few things that might not work, and please let me know, might include resizing graphics/uploading, and maybe some links, if you used absolute ones using the kupatrix.org domain (in that cause, just switch it from .org to .com)

Just thought I would let everyone know.

I'm also wonder who would be interested if I were to create a new template for the wiki that mimics Warboards? I want to learn more about mediawiki templating, so I thought this might be a good way to learn about it, plus rekindle some interest in the wiki.

Heh.

Anyways, just thought you wiki-crazies would like to know its back.

note: some pages might take awhile to load, since the wiki has to recreate caches and stuff on the new server.

edit: the url might change to wiki.kupatrix.net, depending on if I'm not being lazy, and how fast kupatrix.net takes to propagate across the intarweb.

I forgot how addictive that is. I should be doing a programming assignment.

Oh well.

That eventual template shifting you're speaking of seems great, Kupa. :) Plus for the fact, that it's back. *Yay's and heads itself onto seeing it*

The only con is that now I'll have to change my siggy again. ;p

Jaes. Now maybe I can whore someone into making an article on me. *must be discreet*

HMm. I think you should try to make it look like WB. Give it a more personal, and familiar touch.

OH, and yeah! The Wiki is back!!!! Woohoo!!!!!!

You should maintain your own article. I did for mine, and i find it an interesting experience -- writing about yourself, but in a sort of 3rd person way.

I wish someone would take charge of doing the recent/current events page as well.

I'd like to also invite anyone who wants to, to use the wiki as a base for files and stuff if you want (ie: modifications, create a wiki page, and upload it to up.k.com =P)

Haha. Just thinking ahead =)

Hmm, perhaps I should get into this wiki craze that's spreading about...use it to satisfy these late night urges to write random things when the boards have died down...

I do recall that Kupa said that he no longer controlled (http://www.warboards.org/showpost.php?p=425806&postcount=15) the former Org Network Wiki (http://wiki.kupatrix.org/) in it's last days, but I assume that your supposed article deletion has something to do with it. *Wink, hint* ;)

Sorry. If you created an article within the last... 2-3 weeks, then my backup didn't include that. I do apologize. However, I'm just thrilled that it worked and got updated/moved as easily as it did, I was anticipating horrible problems =P

I'm the youngest mod? Interesting the things one learns about himself when reading the wiki...

Neo

that may not be true anymore, I thought KTan was young(er?) as well, but I'm not sure.

We all must keep in mind that it needs a serious updating work over. In the abbreviations page for instance, Feng' still was as one of the Org Network administrators. ;)

I'm 17, have been since 26 October.

Get in, my special article was preserved!

Yeah, same here. I thought Ktan was 11, and GrassDragon to be 34.

Seriously though, I though I thought Ktan was younger (even if it was by a few months. I approximately knew how old you foos were)

Kupa, I notice the disclaimer on the editing pages:
You're also promising that you wrote anything you submit yourself -- or copied it from public domain.
Just a thought here on the copyright issues--perhaps it might work just as good or better to put the entire site under a common license, such as the GNU FDL, which Wikipedia uses. Technically speaking, because your disclaimer only allows original work or public domain, copying something from a Wikipedia article would be against the rules, although the FDL explicitly allows you to make derivative works based off the existing text. Maybe just add something to ensure you're licensed to use the material if it isn't public domain or original creation, which should be common sense. But for some reason it caught my attention enough to make this post.

Then again, I've never used Wikipedia, so maybe they have the same disclaimer? A bit odd if they do, considering the license choice.

At the site, yes. However in age terms, no (it seems). :D

Seeing as how GD claims to be god... I always thought he had no age >_>

That disclaimer was put there to stop SarahK's annoying as fuck copying of everything from Wikipedia.

The point was for the wiki to be about/for/by ORG Network members.

Not just stuff copied from wikipedia. Not to mention that sites that do that can get cut from search engines (ie: for copying). >.> whatever.

I've never considered what the org wiki is (license wise), I just assume its public domain myself... or perhaps I should specifically choose something like CC or whatever.

Alright, it just came up because I was planning to do some edits on the Diplomacy HQ page, and thought I might pull a few paragraphs from the Wikipedia article on Diplomacy in lieu of describing the game from scratch. But it's really no problem, as I could either do it from scratch or simply provide an external link to the Wikipedia article.

Yeah, see, I don't care about that kind of stuff. Its just copying -- verbatim -- for example, an entire article from wikipedia.

Our wiki is supposed to be a sort of tongue in cheek affair -- yes it has real info in it, but no its not supposed to be a real wiki with perfect encyclopedic articles and stuff.

Heh.

Why do we have USER in front of the names of people? Isn't having them in a category of Users enough?

Protoss_Honor
02-14-2007, 10:32 PM
The User: title means that they have accounts on that Wiki. We put the article under the User: Page, because that is each persons own personal page. If the person does not have a Wiki account, we simply put their page under their user name. Some people even redirect their user name to their User: page. Does that help?

I know what you mean. I just opened it up and though 'hey, I'll update my User Page while I'm here' and then BAM about 10 or so page edits

Crikey, over 50 page edits today.

I believe I all made the changes you wanted Grog. If you need anymore help, or I didn't do one of the things you wanted, just tell us. We are here to help.

Well, actually, I am also here to annoy, but that is another subject. :D
