View Full Version : Fast Headhunter Build

Inspired by the Fast Rifle build in the Human section at WCR, along with the Solo Random article by GA (in which he says that Orc cookie cutter sucks and Headhunters are great against Night-Elf) I decided to try and find a good fast-Headhunter build.

I've come up with this build, rather similar in nature to the Speed Rifles build at WCR, with a late hero (your Altar finishes at exactly the same time as Tavern Heroes become available) so you'd probably want to go for a Tavern Hero. I know this is all fanciful, and perhaps it isn't something you've always wanted to know, but this is, (I believe,) the fastest one-Barracks Headhunter build out there.

The Build

All 5 peons to gold, first back goes to wood, queue two Peons at Great Hall.

Right now, you should have 4 peons on gold, and 1 on wood.

The first peon out of the Great Hall goes to gold, so you now have a full contingent of gold-mining peons.

The second peon out of the Great Hall will build an Orc Burrow. Queue this peon to the spot where you will build your second Orc Burrow.

Almost immediately afterwards, your peon gathering wood should return for the second time, having got a total of 20 wood. Instruct him to build a War Mill. Queue this peon to wood.

As a War Mill takes longer than a Barracks to construct, you need the War Mill up first.

The third peon out of the Great Hall will build a Barracks. Queue this, and all subsequent peons, to wood. Continue construction of peons, one at a time.

The fourth peon out of the Great Hall will go to wood. The fifth (making sure no more peons are queued after this one) should go and build an Altar of Storms. Your Altar should ideally start construction at exactly 11:45 gametime (by the clock at the top of the screen). Tavern heroes spawn at 14:45, and an Altar takes 3 hours to build.

If you have microed your peons effectively enough, your first Orc Burrow should be finished, and you should have just enough resources to build a second Orc Burrow. Queue this peon to wood.

Rally your Barracks to the Tavern, and start production of Headhunters after you have 13 supply of Peons. Train your first Headhunter, then another peon, then more Headhunters. Hire your tavern hero, and tech at 22 supply (Tavern Hero/14 peons/2 Headhunters).

End build

Hope this helps at least some people, and that it was worthwhile testing and writing it. :)

Why would you use this build? Wouldn't you want to tech faster and produce HH's after tech? Tier 1 they aren't very good..

Well, the one I was pointing out produces one HH before tech. There is a surplus of gold while no significant quantity of wood is available for tech. I could either hoarde the gold or simply use it. Since gold comes so much faster than wood and there is a small window of potential harass, it's good to have the added "gun" to throw on top of the two burrows. It also gives them a target to chase while the burrows do the damage and your BM makes his way to their base.

As it works out, the tech comes about 30s faster than the two-grunt tech regardless. I don't know about RR's setup. I just like to be able to tech faster than the NE while crippling his [critical] wood supply.
