View Full Version : 3rd Annual WarBoards Awards -- Voting Thread
You MUST PM your votes to me in order for them to count. I will NOT be counting the votes you may/may not post in this thread.
These are awards meant to recognize and showcase the contributions of the various members and staff here at WarBoards, and in the ORG Network to a lesser extent.
This is the voting thread. Hence, the names of those in contention for the awards will be following the descriptions of each category. Look through the names, decide who you feel best suits the accompanying award, and finally send those names to our Judge for this year's awards, me.
The basic rules, are:
You may only vote for one person per award.
This voting phase will run until the 5th of February.
There will be no appeals, no special consideration, etc.
Voting under multiple accounts is a bannable offense. Do not do so.
The Categories:
The Puppet (Most Popular)
Not neccesarily the most courteous, intelligent or useful member, but still easily recognized by the collective forum.
Nominations: BlackHawk, Black.Ice, dunchy, GenocideAlive, Kongurous, Protosschick99, or Schwitzer.
The Ambassador (Most Intelligent)
People nominated for this title are of a higher calibre. They know how to construct and deliver near-flawless arguments in many serious debates.
Nominations: Black.Ice, GenocideAlive, Ktan, Modred, Nuts, Seal, TheBB, or Veeger.
The Artisan of Visions (Best Graphic Designer/Artist)
Whatever their medium may be, these members behold sights that can only be described with visual splendor.
Nominations: Aquarian, BlackHawk, CODEZERO, Darkslayer633, or ZeroDarkStar.
The Jester (Most Humourous)
Laughter is their forte. Humility and Modesty are not among their characters. Hilarity and Amusement at the sake of their own hides are what they live for.
Nominations: dunchy, GenocideAlive, Kongurous, Nuts, Protoss_Honor, Schwitzer, or WhiteKnight.
The Guide (Most Helpful)
These members devote their time to making newer members of our community feel welcome and informed. These people may also be fountains of knowledge that impart advice and instruction to fellow members who are having issues in and out of the forums.
Nominations: Aqotrooper, Basan, Black.Ice, Ktan, Modred, RedRagToAnOrc, Schwitzer, or TimP.
The Partisan (Best Moderator)
A testiment to the security, fairness, and kindness of the forums. Tirelessly ridding the forums of opposition towards the atmosphere and standards of a great forum, but always have a spare moment to lend a hand to help those in need.
Nominations: Black.Ice, dunchy, GenocideAlive, GrassDragon, hammocksleeper, Jeff, Ktan, or Kupa.
The Sceptre (Best Administrator)
The crew behind the forums work hard to ensure the things we take for granted. Always coming up with fresh ideas to better the site and the experience, they are often overlooked due to their infrequent public contact.
Nominations: AJ or Schwitzer.
New This Year:
The Turncoat (Most Improved)
Throughout the course of the year it is not uncommon to see individuals express different attitudes or personalities while a part of this network. This award goes to acknowledge that poster who has seen the greatest improvement.
Nominations: Basan, Dayoh, Flametrooper, GenocideAlive, Kongurous, or Tharisfal.
The Unsung (Least Appreciated)
There are thousands of members of the ORG Network, hundreds of which are active, contributing forces -- but there are always a few who go overlooked. They work to better the environment around them without so much as a "Thank you" for their hard efforts.
Nominations: Ahzz, Basan, BrotherGreen, BSTRhino, CrazyTom, Flametrooper, Kupa, Modred, NastyApe, Protosschick99, Seal, or TinyDancer.
The Kneebiter (Most Annoying)
While every user is appreciated, sometimes there comes along that individual who causes more hassle and unrest than any postive influence they might possess. Use this award to enlighten them to this most stunning attribute of theirs.
Nominations: 4064, B.A.Baracus, bloodbane, GenocideAlive, KexMex, Pirahordica_King, protogod, SarahK, Shortyland05, SuperPikachu2007, Yoda, or Zerg_eater.
You can send all your votes to me here (http://www.warboards.org/private.php?do=newpm&u=2).
Have fun. I wish you all the best of luck.
Although you can only vote for one person per award, is it possible to allocate more than one award to the same person?
Edit: Wow, GA is appreciated. He got nominated for 6 awards, including both "most intelligent" and "most annoying."

While it is probably not surprising that I would dispute any claims of "good" or "evil", I would like to point out that my posting style has changed rather drastically since I first came here. For starters, there are some posts that I make that do not contain the word "fuck".

Aquarian

If anyone does not mind, I'll post my votes and reasons why I voted for that particular person here. ;)
The Puppet- Schwitzer
Schwitz, because he has a great blend of seriousness, humour and politeness in him. Therefore, deserving the title of "Most Popular."
The Ambassador- N/A
I can't really pick a person for this category..
The Artisan of Visions- Aquar-... Wait, I can't vote for myself? Damn. BlackHawk it is. :P
BH's works normally have that nice "worn" out effect which I find unique. He also does plenty of different styles and works, not to forget he takes in critism positively. Also, "The best graphics designer" title should go to a person who does different kinds of projects, like coffee table book covers, site layouts and the such. Therefore, making awesome looking signatures is only one step to earn this title in my opinion.
The Jester- dunchy
Here, I couldn't decide between Dunchy or Schwitz, as both of them I find equally amusing. As I've already voted for Schwitz, so I'll go for Dunchy here. :P
The Guide- Ktan
K'tan's always ready to give a helping hand with a friendly attitude to anyone.
The Partisan- N/A
I find all mods equally great. :P
The Sceptre- AJ
What? No Fenguin? :P Well, AJ has done plenty of work for Warboards, adding in new features, looking for bugs and taking in suggestions to improve the forums better. I doubt any other admin is more deserving of this title.
The Turncoat- Kongurous
Kong... Kong... When I first joined this forum, he was all spammy, mean and drunky. Now, we see less of those three traits, if not at all.
The Unsung- BSTRhino
I was deciding between BST or Kupa, in the end, BST was my pick as shown above.
The Kneebiter- Zerg_Eater or SarahK?
This is the THOUGHEST category ever! So, let's have an overview here, shall we? :smirk:
Zerg_Eater- Annoying, refusing to accept critism, if any is still willing to give him any at all, big-headed, and the list goes on. Please, oh please, most importantly, work on your friggin' spelling and grammar! I don't mind bad spelling or grammar normally, but it seems yours is near impossible to read.
SarahK- She came in as a normal member, who was welcomed warmly. Little did we know, this female dog is just a sack of trouble. She discriminates and even starts a scandal! A round of rotten tomatoes for this sicko.
So, the winner is... SARAHK!!! Dun dun dun!!! Why? Zerg_Eater would have been my vote, except for one thing. He is only friggin' 11 years old! Therefore, he can be forgiven, for now. :P
kongurous

im gonna copy Aquarian for the style of my post.
The Puppet- Schwitzer
just cant miss good 'ol Schwity
The Ambassador- didnt vote
there were a few i was considering but none really stood out enough for my vote
The Artisan of Visions- Aquarian
Aquarian's art just appeals to me
The Jester- dunchy
this was a rather close one. my other choice was nuts. and really i almost had to toss a coin
The Guide- Ktan
Another close one. I was also considering Black.Ice but Ktan seemed to pull ahead in my consideration for this.
The Partisan- hammocksleeper
professional and to the point with some humor hear and there
The Sceptre- AJ
gets the job done
The Turncoat- Basan
Had the Kneebiter category existed when he was new i would have voted for him for that.
The Unsung- Kupa
he's here, posts, moderates but seems to be invisable
The Kneebiter- 4064

The Puppet (Most Popular)
Schwitzer. Funny, intelligent and kind. The entire package!
The Ambassador (Most Intelligent)
Modred. Man, that's one smart guy!
The Artisan of Visions
Darkslayer, he made me my Christmas Muppet avatar!
The Jester
Nuts, among others, the cup cake rant and his numerous Caption Contest victories.
The Guide
Ktan
The Partisan
GenocideAlive, good ol' iron fist ruler of the IR!
The Sceptre
AJ

01-26-2007, 4:24 AM
The Puppet (Most Popular)
Vote: Kongurous. I needn't really justify this.
The Ambassador (Most Intelligent)
Vote: GenocideAlive - no surprise really. All arguments thought out and validated, none of the stumbling into fallacies as the rest of us do from time to time.
The Artisan of Visions (Best Graphic Designer/Artist)
Vote: ZeroDarkStar - WB Life? priceless.
The Jester (Most Humourous)
Vote: dunchy - oh, dunchy, how we miss your goating ways.
The Guide (Most Helpful)
Vote: Ktan - he always has a helpful, well-thought-out hint for new forum members.
The Partisan (Best Moderator)
Vote: hammocksleeper - yeah, he's fair... I think he's also the only mod that's ever deleted one of my posts, although I don't remember that far back.
The Sceptre (Best Administrator)
Vote: AJ - he's the one doing this thread, after all...
The Turncoat (Most Improved)
Abstain
The Unsung (Least Appreciated)
Vote: (Am I allowed to vote for myself in this? If so then: CrazyTom; if not then: TinyDancer. 'cause she's a legend, she should get the award just for being a beautiful camwhore. I should the award just because my whiskers are extra furry.
The Kneebiter (Most Annoying)
Vote: bloodbane - his poorly typed posts have nothing to offer and bug me so much I have them set to ignore, now.
Protosschick99
01-26-2007, 4:44 AM
The Puppet (Most Popular)
Protosschick99 - Yeah I'm voting for myself, so what--I've never done so before and I'd like to get another award besides "Most Missed Poster" lolz :P
The Ambassador (Most Intelligent)
GenocideAlive - Smart dude--Very smart :)
The Artisan of Visions (Best Graphic Designer/Artist)
Black Hawk - He rocks and is going to design my wedding invitations in the future :D
The Jester (Most Humourous)
Protoss_Honor - ALL THE WAY :D
The Guide (Most Helpful)
Black.Ice - Without a doubt :)
The Partisan (Best Moderator)
Kupa - Neo r0cks! He moderates with his head and not feelings, thank God :P
The Sceptre (Best Administrator)
Schwitzer - It was a tie with me. So I just did that eni meeny miny moe thing, lolz.
New This Year:
The Turncoat (Most Improved)
Kongurous - He has improved a whole lot :)
The Unsung (Least Appreciated)
BSTRhino - No contest with this guy. He is soo sweet, caring and just wonderful! I hope one day to find a husband like him :)
The Kneebiter (Most Annoying)
SarahK - Enough said. Girl needs to shut her mouth sometimes....Wait no--ALL THE TIME. ;)
The Puppet (Most Popular)
Scwhitzer - Can't really fault the guy, great poster and a sharp wit.
The Ambassador (Most Intelligent)
GenocideAlive - I have found myself stopping by to read threads just to see GA's response to them. It's closer this one (discounting myself ;)) but I think he's the first one I'd answer with, if it wa a game of word-association or something.
The Artisan of Visions (Best Graphic Designer/Artist)
Aquarian - I'll be honest: Personal bias :P I like the guys humour though and I like the swirly pattern fetish.
The Jester (Most Humourous)
Nuts - I love scathing, satirical humour. I think one of my favourite posts is when he told someone "I can't understand you; use more smilies"
The Guide (Most Helpful)
Black.Ice - Need I say anything?
The Partisan (Best Moderator)
Black.Ice - I could have been cheap and voted for myself. I don't know, for me B.I seems to convey the 'feeling' of Warboards, so to speak.
The Sceptre (Best Administrator)
Schwitzer - Just because he's around more and likes to rant about stuff. I'm a rant fan. Plus, I don't really have the technical grace to follow most of AJ's topics :P *Hides from AJ*
The Turncoat (Most Improved)
Kongurous - I like his posts, humour and initiative.
The Unsung (Least Appreciated)
BSTRhino - Because he's BST. Grim Terror's recent thread sums it all up, really.
The Kneebiter (Most Annoying)
4046. You didn't have to deal with it, did you? *places gun against head*

Which brings me to the question, how many nominations are needed for someone to become a nominee?
Protoss_Honor
01-26-2007, 5:23 PM
I think it depends on how many people actually send nominations, and how many nominations each nominee gets. Depending on the amount sent, and the difference between the number of nominations each nominee recievies, AJ could include every nominee or only a couple. At least that's how I assume he does it.

Hey. I think I am noticing a trend. Last year I got nominated for The Jester. Not enough to make it to the voting phase, but I still got nominated by at least Fred1000000. This year I recieived enough to make it to the voting phase, yet only one person who posted their votes, actually voted for me (I love you for that PC :D). So I probably will not win this year, but then, you never know. Not everyone has posted who they voted for. Yet if this trend keeps up, I should win next year.
So in order to test my theory, I definately gotta stay active. And I absolutely, most definately, gotta keep up the funny posts! Now, where did I put my lab coat? Hmmm.

And the vast majority of people either didn't know or didn't care. That isn't the first time someone has made a SC2 hoax. Heck, making a hoax like that isn't even very annoying compared to some of the inane, brainless posts that show up in Members Lounge, IR, and a few other general forums.
Yeah, we like you BB. I share the feeling with you; I think this is the first time I've been nominated for any awards, and certainly didn't expect to be in the most intelligent category. (You, on the other hand, I might put there.)

My nominations go to... oh, wait now that I see this thread better it even has the nominees in (below each category), so it must be a final vote thread.
The Puppet - Dunch'
I'm extremely undecided on this one because there are a few other members that come to mind, but provided he's a 'whiner' he gets my vote.
The Ambassador - GA
Hands down. And even though I haven't been much at IR lately, I've almost always get a kick of snide humour amidst a good rethorical 'spanking' when reading the debating subjects, so he has earned it (imo).
The Artisan of Visions - DarkSlayer'
Although there are also other artists around here that I'm fond upon their work, like MarkPyro, Zelt', BH, Aquarian or even ZDS, this year I picked the one that always has been there for my weird requests for avies and/or siggies.
The Jester - Schwitz'
This one I think that doesn't really need explanations... the kind of irony, sarcasm or wit within way of posting is what got my vote. I know that there could've been another couple of beacons 'round able for that position, but provided I've already voted in'em...
The Guide - Aqo'
Although it may not look like it, I've learned a lot about SC-BW editing through out his assistance onto others. Hence that, he gets the spotlight. ;) Furthermore, I don't have the habit to vote for myself on these things. :P
The Partisan - Ktan
Although always a spiffy staff and harder than nuts to pick, this year I went for the newcomer (in more than staff age wise aspects) that seems to be everywhere n' also getting the job splendidly done.
The Sceptre - AJ
Although I liked the new forum idea with the quiz' and all that jazz (from Schwitz'), this 'fella' wins the vote due to constant revamping factors. *Cough*vB3.6*Cough*
The Turncoat - Dayoh
Provided he improved a lot on most aspects from what I initially remember him by (not that it was a bad or something sorta ilk), he gets the cherry this year.
Although this is also somewhat odd, for my point of view... but have I actually improved on something when comparing the last year to say, 2005?
The Unsung - 'Rhino
Oh noes... another hellish troublesome to pick, 'cause there are quite a few blokes around in the 'genre'. This is probably the most difficult award for me to pick but provided BST' lead the way to most virtues around the SC area, many times seemingly unrecognized he gets my vote. Maybe it'll also serve to show newcomers, what it stands for for the older members around here.
The Kneebiter - ShortyLand'
Although somewhat indecisive to me between having 4046 and SarahK there as well, he gets the cake because he has been here for a while, even if in spoofy sporadical episodes, and never the less he seems to miss the wider picture other try to show him.
Not that the other two were any less annoying, but maybe I was able to discharge onto earth a lot easier.
The Turncoat- Basan
Had the Kneebiter category existed when he was new i would have voted for him for that.
Gee... thanks (read, kneebiter reference). But, never the less, still want to know what I did to make ya feel that way. PM or not, I ain't picky about it. (I definitely want to know about it, even if merely for improvements/future avoiding stances purposes.)
Quick, grab a box of red wine again and let's drink the night away!

*Rolls eyes* And couldn't you pulled some strings (as B.I did in the 2006 RP nominations thread)? I have that weird feeling that this is going to blow on my face but f**k it... and lets face it, you simply didn't want to. :smirk:

Anyway, I'd like to thank anyone who had nominated me... :) although, to be thoroughly honest, I hadn't expected much votes (to even be in there) due to my occasional sassy way of being/helping.

I wonder what Mr. T and a Torrasque with cat whiskers would produce :D

I don't care if people here want to have my babies. In fact, I would find that rather disturbing, because the majority of people here are guys. But, I do wish I had recieved more votes for The Jester. That hurts people, it really does.

Yep, nothing's worse than receiving one vote (thanks nuts :)). I share your pain.
I simply cannot understand this 'hassle' of yours, (P_H). Being nominated was better than not to (especially compared to the ones who haven't), right? ;)

Quit whining and make more funny posts if you want to get more votes.

Quit whining and make more funny posts if you want to get more votes.I am not whining. I am trying to acquire sympathy votes. :P Although it is probably too late for that. The problem is that a lot of people do not appriciate my sense of humor. My funny posts are lost on a lot of the people here.
Actually, this is one thing I never understood about this whole awards thing. People get enough nominations to make it to the voting round, but in the voting round they recieve very few, if any, votes. At least that is what I have seen from the people who post their votes. How does that happen? Do the voters suddenly decide they like someone elses nominee better than their own nominee? If so, I do hope these people who suddenly change their minds do not vote in government elections

Jeez. A majority of the votes aren't even publicly posted.
I'm not saying that there's probably a surprise torrent of votes for you, but judging the results based off the sample posted in this thread could lead one to get false expectations.
Quit whining and make more funny posts if you want to get more votes.
Ding! Ding! Ding!
Voting is now closed, I'll announce the winners on the 8th.

The Puppet (Most Popular)
Not neccesarily the most courteous, intelligent or useful member, but still easily recognized by the collective forum.
Protosschick99
Dude, "the Puppet". How could it not be PC...
The Ambassador (Most Intelligent)
People nominated for this title are of a higher calibre. They know how to construct and deliver near-flawless arguments in many serious debates.
Nobody. Seriously, we're all just pompous asshats.
The Artisan of Visions (Best Graphic Designer/Artist)
Whatever their medium may be, these members behold sights that can only be described with visual splendor.
ZeroDarkStar. Because his WB Life comics were kind of funny. And since that was in this past year, even though he quit, I'll give him his props.
The Jester (Most Humourous)
Laughter is their forte. Humility and Modesty are not among their characters. Hilarity and Amusement at the sake of their own hides are what they live for.
dunchy. M'boy. No contest, here.
The Guide (Most Helpful)
These members devote their time to making newer members of our community feel welcome and informed. These people may also be fountains of knowledge that impart advice and instruction to fellow members who are having issues in and out of the forums.
Black.Ice. I really think this category should be named "Person with infinite patience for repeating the obvious", because that's all to which newbie helping has become. READ THE RULES, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD is just about the most polite way I could repeat myself to newbies, and kudos to BI for being able to be more alliterative.
The Partisan (Best Moderator)
A testiment to the security, fairness, and kindness of the forums. Tirelessly ridding the forums of opposition towards the atmosphere and standards of a great forum, but always have a spare moment to lend a hand to help those in need.
Ktan. He's serious about this stuff, there's a thread at least three times a week about some godforsaken who-cares problem with whatever post. I would have deleted it and made fun of whoever wrote it, but Ktan wants to triple-check with the collective staff about its sociopolitical impact on WB and the Phillipines about the ramifications of response.
The Sceptre (Best Administrator)
The crew behind the forums work hard to ensure the things we take for granted. Always coming up with fresh ideas to better the site and the experience, they are often overlooked due to their infrequent public contact.
AJ. Gotta go with AJ, here, because I figure he left enough hints with the description. LOVE MEEEEEEEEEEE...
New This Year:
These new categories are great. +Rep to whoever came up with them. Nice.
The Turncoat (Most Improved)
Throughout the course of the year it is not uncommon to see individuals express different attitudes or personalities while a part of this network. This award goes to acknowledge that poster who has seen the greatest improvement.
kong. Probably the hardest category to decide. But given the amount of problems that kong used to create vs. the caliber of posts he's been given lately, I think it's deserved. Plus, I think he's still getting better.
The Unsung (Least Appreciated)
There are thousands of members of the ORG Network, hundreds of which are active, contributing forces -- but there are always a few who go overlooked. They work to better the environment around them without so much as a "Thank you" for their hard efforts.
I don't know. What can I say, if I don't notice them, then how would I know to elect them? Go figure, conundrums always sort of twist my brain.
The Kneebiter (Most Annoying)
While every user is appreciated, sometimes there comes along that individual who causes more hassle and unrest than any postive influence they might possess. Use this award to enlighten them to this most stunning attribute of theirs.
Nobody I would have picked got elected. Sucks. Because bloodbane annoys the hell out of me.
