How do you put a picture in the lion square and get a signature? I have been trying to figure this out for days.

Click User CP at the top of any page. Then on your left you can see "Edit Signature" and "Edit Avatar". From there you just have to put in a link to the image. I think the max size for an avy is 25k and 125x125, and a sig is 500x140(?) for everything, text and picture.

Avatar (the lion thing) you just upload a picture (smaller then 125 x 125 pixels or 15 kb or something) in your User CP.

For the signature, it's just a picture smaller then 500 x 125 pixels and 25 kb that you just link to (you have to host it somewhere). Most people make their own, however some people get theirs made by others.

There's a free image hosting site you can use for your signature... uhh... what's the address... *thinks* http://www.kupatrix.com/upload

That's more then enough for an optimized siggy.

For smaller sigs, yes, but for bigger sigs, no. Mine currently is around 22kb, but my old, big one was around 65 and another was around 92. Better ones than that cannot be below that without compromising quality.

Judging from your old sig, I'd say you could get it at least down to 20kb with some optimisation.

Say, 6 quality with 1 lossy, and you're good to go. ;)

Compromising quality as in going from 100 to 99 on the JPEG quality scale? :p

Seriously, if you think that there's a noticeable difference in image quality between any number in the 90-100 range (or 80-100 for some images), you're somking something. My sig would be around 50 kb at 100 quality. it's 24 kb at around 89 quality, with no noticeable difference in image clarity. When exporting to JPEG, see what the projected file size is at 90 quality and dance around there for a while to stay under 25 kb and get the quality you want, if it matters that much to you.

yea, but i still think 25 kb is way too small...maybe it should be inreased a bit..like maybe 5-10 kb at the very least.

I'm not sure where it was, but one of the Admins said it best: "This is a forum, not a signature gallery." I completely agree with that, and I doubt that the limit will ever be raised. There's plenty to be done with 25kb, just export at JPEG Quality 80 (God forbid!).

25kb is a HUGE amount of space if you know what you're doing.

I only way I could see someone going over without at least trying to compress is if they have animated GIFS as their siggy.

Yeah that's right...you guys spend so much time talking about JPEG this JPEG that turn your compression up..but what if your sig is animated? Not much to do, it's gonna be big.

EDIT: Haha Shawnman's new sig is 1.5 MB (and animated)

Oi, poor SMX. He will have to revert to his original signature again, even after the vortex one. :(

It doesn't take any time for me to load. Let the 56kers eat cake!

1.5 meg. Sheesh. I wish there was a way to incorpate Flash stuff into your sig. I would be doing some pretty cool stuff, right about now.
