I need some help understanding the sections in scenario.chk. I understand there was a chk format posted at campaign creations but now its gone. I guess i just want to know more about how the sections are formated in the chk, and how do you know what the last string of a section is? thanks~!

Well ok, first .chk files are in the map files themselves. you just open .scm and .scx with winMPQ and you'll see scenario.chk, that is just where all the map data is stored, like triggers and terrain and all. There are different sections in the hex code when you open it with a hexeditor....like IOWN....and UNITS.... you can change the colors of players and pretty much anything having to do with the map, the problem is i can't tell when one of these "sections" ends. String would be just any character i suppose? I'm just finding it hard to find information on this staredit chk format. thats all i really need, to analize the format itself and to be able to know which section does what.

I believe THIS (http://www.staredit.net/index.php?tutorial=297) will help.

wow thanks! I'm surprised i couldn't find that
Hmm, so with hex edting could you supposedly change the terrain and make like water walkable and create new terrain?

No, that is something else... by changing terrain he means the tileset or other properties... basically like editing the map without an editor.
In a similar concept, I can write a word .doc document without word and apply colors, formating, paragraphs and so on, it's just ahrder than with MS Word... alternatively, some use editors with GUIs to make web pages while veterans use notepad (or an editor, and just write the code).
But you can't compare the simplicity of writing a document or text file with editing a map ;)

A section ended, where another one started. At the begining there is a header of a file, it contains some datas about. I will post later if it need.
