Just so you know... DatEd 1.4 is out :P
Well, if you understand the basics of the mpq archives, and generic file management in general it shouldn't be too hard to understand.

Basically, make the changes you want in DatEd and then put them in the mpq (you can load your own mpq by using MPQDraft and creating a SEMPQ).

As for the dat filenames, as I said, if you understand the basic concept of file management and how an app uses a file, then you'll know that by replacing the original, you will "force" the app to load your own changes.

Just make sure you don't modify BrooDat.mpq, Patch_RT.mpq or StarDat.mpq until you know what you're doing.

In the meantime, Welcome to WB!

i understood something but it didn't worked as i would expect it to... so... i don't want to be annoying i just want to learn how to use it... could you be more explicit? as in step-by-step after the modifications made in datedit... :worship::worship::worship::worship::worship::wors hip::worship::worship::worship::worship::worship:: worship::worship:

Well, just save the dat (save as... and not save), make a new mpq with WinMPQ (basically, just drag & drop) and enter the folder (which is arr\, not arr and not arr/, but it isn't case-sensitive), save the mpq under whatever name you wish, open MPQDraft, then just follow the SEMPQ wizard to make a new patcher. Then just run it :)

If you have problems, feel free to ask, but please, do us all a favor and check tutorials (not only on starcraft.org or warboards, but also staredit.net) and the FAQs on these sites, google, search both forums (both the WB and SEN forums have a search feature, although I know how annoying it is to search through many pages, but trust me, it pays of in the end on both sides... the reason there are so many pages to go through is cos others were lazy to NOT search) and then IF you still didn't find an answer post :)

Some here like to give step-by-step stuff, but others (me included) prefer to just point people in the right direction and let them figure things out. It might take longer but it is better to learn and understand things by yourself than have it all on a silver platter :) (plus the satisfaction is higher when you know you did smth with minimal help :P).

Good luck :)
