On bnet there has been a lot of games with units that look invincible but actually have over 9999 hps anyone know how to do this?

yeah, use a map editor like SCM Draft 2, than set the hit points over 9999... it is real easy.

-1 is invincibility, 9999 is not invincible, but both are targetable

Setting a unit's HP over 9999 either in units.dat or in the CHK file will hide it from being displayed, but will still work as normal HP.

yes it does, you just can't see the HP actual numbers. But i never knew you could use -1 to make them invincable... but it makes sense mathematically. If you take a shield point away since the shield points do have a value than it would go to -2. Which would be increasing the shield points.
