View Full Version : Two kinda dumb questions

So I'm pretty sure that this is the right place for this and I didn't see these answered in the mapping FAQ so bear with me.

1. Whenever I start a game in the UMS game I made, player 1 isn't always red, and neither are all of the other colors. They just switch to a random color of the players in the map, sometimes not even ones with units. How can I fix this so player 1 is red, player ___ is ___, etc. ? Thanks in advance.

2. How do you make it so it's impossible to build a building? E.g. where an assimilator would be in the build menu, there'd just be a black space? I've seen this done before, but I can't find a way to do it.

Thanks in advance if you can answer this question, and sorry if it's an extremely obvious question/question that has been answered before!:D

1: i dont think it can be done
2: go to playeer settings, click on units tab, then choose your unit, and untick enable by default.

Thanks for answering my second question!:) But are you sure that the first question is impossible? I'm sure I've seen it done before...

Its plausible indeed.....
Many Maps on bnet will do thus as well as the blizz camagins. i dunno I was wondering this indeed im gonnna check the SEN

Fount It
Go to Forces and uncheck Random Start Location. Now the players will always start in the same place with the colors they are set to.

Thats It !

This has been a known option for years...
Although I think it was already explained on the top FAQ about mapping, stickied and all.

*Sigh/Meh's* It would be expectfull for people to actually read the Mapping FAQ (http://www.warboards.org/showthread.php?t=13285) before asking, but whatever...

Would you mind pointing out where it is? I still can't find it in the FAQ so I'm wondering if I'm just missing something in front of my nose or what?

You mean the one at the top ? this (http://www.warboards.org/showpost.php?p=253092&postcount=1) one that you can't find ? :D

Or just read my post... :)

1. Go to "forces".
2. Uncheck: random start locations for all 4 forces.

Easy as that.

I did linked to it in my post... again (because U-238 already did it in his post). :P
Anyway, here the links within text are currently displayed in a light blue tone, unless hidden on purpose but that's a story for some other time. ;)

But that's not what I meant... I know where the FAQ is but I looked in it twice and couldn't find the answer either time.

I guess this wasn't clear enough:

How do I have players start with a fixed location in a melee map? by Akuma
Go to the "Forces" menu and uncheck "Random Start Location" for all four forces. This also prevents the annoying player color changes that would otherwise occur.

Please, let me repeat:

Don't get any of us wrong, we're not bad people, it's just that this question was asked more times than I can count (yes, more than 6 times :D)

It has the answer (http://up.kupatrix.com/f/9/Poiting_the_obvious.jpg) to one of your questions. The other about disabling buildings/units construction, imho, it's so basic tweaking with the editors that I took it for granted (read, any of the most known). Basically, just play with your editor for a while and you'll start to get a good hang of it. Feel free to ask whatever troubles ya, though. It really doesn't matter that much, anyway. ;)

Since I don't think I need to make a whole new topic for this I guess I'll post it here.

How do I get a computer's units not to run away when attacked, like the mouse holes in cat 'n mouse games?

Now, you're getting the hang of it!

Hmm, for that I need to know some more specifics of your intentions for it. Will the unit move/teleport and then be set to be stand still for the kill? Or is it something else (and if it is, please give more details)?
But I can tell ya this from scratch, it'll have to involve some stalking trigger(s) location(s). ;)

Heh, just now I figured it out. I could've sworn that I set the computer to have the cats as allies, but I guess not. :P Thanks for offering help anyways. :D
