The purpose of this thread is to discover how other people deploy their armies and to discuss better ways and such...not to mention keep this forum a little more alive
So here's what you do...
Post the army that you would take to the table with a 1000 point limit and no knowledge about what your enemy will be. If you don't have a 1000 point army, feel free to make up the extra points using the army list.
[Insert Darmago's army list here]
I'll post mine later.
also a short paragraph of fluff would be ok too.

For a 1,000 pt set up, I'd probably take an army I consider standard, but most would probably say it sucks. Ah well, here it is.
HQ choice: Command squad with 1 Heroic Senior Officer, 1 Veteran, and 2 Guardsmen. 2 Sanctioned Psykers, 1 Commissar. Total point cost is 146
Elites: 1 Storm Trooper squad (full squad, 9 troopers) with Storm Trooper veteran sergeant, 1 grenade launcher and 1 melta gun. 1 Ratling squad (3 troops). 1 Ogryn squad (5 troops). Total point cost is 282
Fast Attack: 1 Rough Riders squad (9 troops), 1 grenade launcher and 1 plasma gun. 1 Sentinel squad (3 units), 1 Sentinel is Cadian pattern, 1 in Armageddon pattern, 1 in Mars pattern. 1 Hellhound tank. Total point cost is 265.
Troops: 5 infantry squads at full strength, 1 squad with veteran sergeant upgrade. Total point cost is 306.
Total army cost 999 pts. Fear it :P

I like kongs army, I'm guessing it just plays like the good of fashioned hammer and anvil.
I have about 3000pts of various 2000pt chaos space marine armies but for 1000pt battles I use harlequins, old rules forgot with edition (the one before they got that cheesy wraithlord) but they fit into the current rules with only some of their abilities being rendered useless and even though their not official, no one wouldn't say they aren't grossly disadvantaged.
The list is lost somewhere in my room but from memory.
-Great harlequin with powersword, shirken pistol, dread mask & some combination of grenades
-Shadowseer with powersword, shirken pistol and something else
-6 harlequins with 2 powerweapons and 2 fusion pistols
-6 harlequins with 2 harlequins kiss and 2 fusion pistols
-8 harlequins with 2 powerswords and 2 fusion pistol
-3 jetbikes, 1 shirken cannon
2 venoms
I don't think I actaully had that many fusion pistols and I can't be bothered working out how many points that is but the army is more or less like that.
Very hard army to use, much harder than elder since every harlequin is worth 25 points, no armour but a constant 4+ cover save, I would totally smoke kong with this.

Two things.
1) my combat strategy in 40k is to be strike fast and hard, and pull out quickly. Probe their defenses and over-extend their combat line. I have fast troops like Rough Riders or Sentinels hit places I want my enemy to be cornered in and come in to hit their flanks if I can. I have 8,000 points of IG, I can certainly last a damned long time in a real game.
2) I eat Eldar for breakfast, Tau for lunch, and Chaos for dinner.

This is the chaos army I use for some 1000pt armies when I'm not doing a specifically themed/targetted army.
HQ
Chaos lord with combi bolter, powerweapon, mark of chaos undivided, krak grenades
-85
Troops
10 Chaos space marines w/bolters, lascannon & plasma gun
aspiring champion with powerfist & bolt pistol
-207 points
9 chaos space marines w/bolters, lascannon and plasma pistol
aspiring champion with powerfist and bolt pistol
-193 points
5 chaos space marines w/bolt pistols & missile launcher
aspiring champion
-107
5 chaos space marines w/bolt pistols & autocannon
aspiring champion
-107
5 chaos space marines w/bolt pistols & heavy bolter
aspiring champion
-102
5 chaos space marines w/bolt pistols & heavy bolter
aspiring champion
-102
5 plague marines w/bolters
-95
Total points: 998
This is used with a stratergy called "Delta: Pretend I'm space marines" this is the complete opposite style to what I usually play but relies on the ungiving reliability of space marines combined with the fact I don't have anything worth targetting to win a points battle at range or a victory in C/C. It could get beaten by a specialist army but most people don't make specialist armies at 1000pts as you can see by the 3 above me (including my harlequins list), and space marines are versitile enough to do as good as it can against an army good at beating it.
