View Full Version : Pariahs (fluff question)

Now, I was aware (after first understanding the Necron Codex fluff) that Pariahs were created from humans with the 'Pariah' gene (for those of you who don't know, this is a gene that results in the owner having no warp presence). Of course, I've slowly been accumulating knowledge about Pariahs and a picture I recently saw from DoW has raised a new question I never really asked about them. I heard they are cyborgs (explaining their lack of the 'We'll Be Back' rule) but one question is how far are they changed from normal humans.

In this picture, you can quite clearly see a human jaw, as if the skin has been ripped from it (think that Nazi with the gasmask out of Hellboy). Is it just the skull that is used though, or are the Pariahs armour plated humans? For example, you look at the actual TT models (arguably less canonical) the little slits in the side of their faces don't really look like human teeth. Also, how are they made to serve the C'tan? Do the C'tan force them to be obedient through some type of invasive brain surgery or are they coerced by the Deceiver, with his usual promises of salvation/immortality, etc.

Basically, is there any source from which we can learn how Pariahs are actually made? I'm guessing Xenology, but alas, despite my wishes I do not own that book...

Honestly, I don't think there are any sources that expand further on what you have said. The only article I think might have information is the Lexicanum page on Pariahs (http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Pariah).

However, the intro to Dark Crusade made it sound as if the human who had became a pariah was captured and was "modified" by the Necrons. It sounds like they kept most of his original body, but integrated it with their technology. It doesn't really explain how, but he still seems to retain his sentience. Then again, this is a game based on 40k, and it isn't entirely accurate to fluff.

Hmmm, it's a shame since that is, in essence, a rewrite of the Codex.

I was wondering if it said anything in Xenology mainly, but the DoW slant was useful.

Xenology doesn't shed any light on the subject. Or maybe I didn't read carefully enough, I haven't checked in a week.

Codex Necron: "Crafted from a terrible symbiosis of necron technology and human evolution, Pariahs represent the next phase of the C'tan's ideal for the galaxy. Resembling artificial beings of soulless perfection, Pariahs radiate a sense of palpable menace and horror to those around them. Blotting out psychic emanations and infusing those nearby with the sense of their own mortality. Pariahs embody the ultimate horror of the necron threat."

They are probably forced to do the C'tan's will via the necron technology they are apparently infused with. but thats all I have at the moment.
