Kanoth sat at his table, enjoying his food in peace until Bear entered the dining area. Listening to the older Nephilim begin his speach, Kanoth continued to eat, not bothering to glance up at the groups leader. He listened intently to what the mission objectives were. As he was swallowing a piece of a biscuit, Bear mentioned his and Tiffany's name together and that they were going to be doing a recon mission. This caused him to choke on his food, and as he finally forced the dry food down his throat, he glared up at Bear. How could he be getting stuck on a reconnaisence mission with someone he didn't even know. Maybe Bear didn't realize it yet, but Kanoth worked alone, that was just his attitude. He wasn't going to change this part about himself, especially to be working with some woman he didn't even know. He was going to have to make it a point to talk to Bear about it when he could.
Hurrying through the remainder of his breakfast, Kanoth was about to leave the rest of the estatic Nephilim behind when an unfamiliar face came up to him and sat down next to him. For a moment, he was curious as to what it was about himself that attracted people to him. While he was still contemplating that thought to himself, the stranger looked at him and began speaking to Kanoth.
"Kanoth, I have a personal mission to do. For me. And it rquires me to be at the Paradise Portal. With or without Bear's permission I am going. And I ask you, can I come with you and scout out the area?"
Kanoth didn't even flinch as he listened to the person's request. In a rather cold tone of voice, he answered Flame's request.
"I don't know who you even are, let alone I don't really care if it is a personal mission or not. Look, I'm not looking forward to have to baby sit this Tiffany person, and I'm not about to have to baby sit someone who wasn't even assigned to this portion of the mission. That being said, I'm about to go and speak with our great leader and see why I have to do so."
Flame sighed heavily as Kanoth finished his words while rising to his feet.
"Your words fall on deaf ears and like I said, I don't care if you have some personal agenda or not. Go speak to Bear if you have any objections."
With that said, he left Flame and the other Nephilim to themselves and headed upstairs, stopping outside of Bear's office. Folding his arms and closing his eyes, Kanoth wasn't about to move for anyone until he had gotten to speak to Bear.

Anu couldn't help but smile as Bear delivered his speech. He wasn't expecting Bear to answer his and Matt's request to go to Paris so quickly. After Bear finished and left the room, Anu excused himself from the table and left the cafeteria in search of Matt to let him know the good news.
Anu found Matt in his quarters, still studying the tablet. "I've got some good news," Anu began.
"Yeah, I just bumped into Bear in the hall and he told me we'd be leaving for Paris. He booked us the earliest flight he could find which leaves at 11:30 tonight and that our tickets were being held at the counter-- I've got all the details here," Matt finishes as he hands Anu itinerary.
"Excellent," Anu responds, thumbing through the papers, realizing this will save him another trip to Bear's office.
With some time to spare, and having gotten his breakfast in him, Anu decided to see what this Nephilim training room had to offer and headed that way to get in his daily workout.

Flame sighed. He would have to go ask Bear. Right now.
He walked out of the cafe and saw Anu just finishing talking up with Bear. Flame chased after Bear.
Panting, he caught up. "I have a personal misison to do. I must find and kill an assasing who destroyed my family." Flame figured it would be easier if he told what hte mission was. "I need you to allow me to go with Kanoth and Tiffany. I will stay a bit aways, doing my own scouting. If you allow me...well....I will be forever in yor debt."
FLame waited anxisously to see if his second attempt would work.

As Bear finnished his speech, Mat and Gabe started talking about the mission.
"Well i think i'm gonna go check some universal bars and such to see what i can dig up. What about you?"
Mat lifted his eyes... "Too complicated why bother when we have something...the demon in he basement I'll interrogate him."
"Heh good luck he's been interrogated before but he didn't say a thing, and Bear wil probably get angry if you shoot him..."
"Well then i guess it's about time i started using my powers." Mat smiled...
"Ok then, i better be off good luck with that demon."
"Good luck to you too."
And Mat walked away and headed towards the basement. He entered the room and found the demon tied well to a chair.
The demon looked up and spitted. "Halfblood!"
"Well that's not very nice. Now I'll be quick where did you get the information about the Paradise portal?"
The demon laughed. "You're pathetic. I'm not telling you anything!"
Mat sighed..."Fine, then we'll make a deal...I'll set you free if you can touch me you can leave if not you'll tell me what i want to know."
"Hahaha! You pathetic fool. So be it i accept your offer!"
Mat released the demon... Then quickly stepped back...
While rushing towards Mat the demon said:
"You must be the stupidest halfbreed I've ever seen in my..." the demon fell down. He had wounds all over his body...he could feel the pain. It was unbearable.
"Curse you halfbreed!" The demon was soon lying on the floor he could barely breathe, he was feeling wasted...he had no more power he could barely get up...
"So I guess you owe me explanations and I suggest you give them to me if you ever want to get up..."
"Fine! The leaders, they met...with some... traitorous angels... that's how we..found out."
"Where did they meet?"
"I don't know..such information...is not give to us...only they...know it."
He approached the demon and tied him again. When the demon was tied to the chair all his wounds and the pain were gone.
"What did you do to me halfbreed?"
"Wouldn't you like to know..."
"Bah! You'll rot in hell for this!!"
Mat smiled..."See you there."
And he exited the room and went straight towards bears office. He knocked twice. "Enter!"
"Sir, I have news about the informators."
"Already?! How did you get it... the demon in the basement told me apparently traitorous angels told them about the portal. Although I was unable to find out where they met."
"Are you sure the demon wasn't lieing?"
"Sir, if I would've asked him how to get to the center of hell he would've told me all the shortcuts. I'm absolutely sure he didn't know."
"So we're searching for a location and traitorous angels... Thanks I'll inform the others."
"You're welcome sir."
Mat saluted and exited Bear's office. And headed off to a universal bar...

Tank grinned widely as Bear gave out the announcement. Finally he thought to himself no sneaking around, no being point man. This is something that I can do well. He gave Mat a nod and a smile when the latter departed from the table, before wolfing down the rest of his breakfast. He was quiet please with himself. Only this morning he was cursing at missing the chance to connect with the other Nephilims, yet he was able to enjoy breakfast with several of them. This was surely a sign that he was accepted in their ranks. His ears perked up when he heard a black haired Nephilim nicknamed Crazy say ‘It's a hidden place for all three kinds to go and relax, away from pureblood human, I'll take a group of people there.’ Now there’s a chance not easily passed up.
As he wiped his mouth on a napkin, the bald man pondered about the strange tablet Anu had with him, and how he and another team member were given a separate mission to Paris. Tank shrugged. Whatever it was, it was they’re business, and he silently wished them luck on the mission.
Tank strode up to Crazy and asked quietly ‘All right if you take me along mate?’ The young man looked up at him.
‘Sure. Glad to have some muscle with us.’ He replied.
‘Great.’ Bill answered, ‘Gimme a yell when you’re ready to go.’
He clapped a hand on Crazy’s shoulder, before heading off towards his quarters. On his way past the offices, Tank saw the man called Kanoth standing resolutely outside Bear’s headquarters. The large man quirked an eyebrow, but the latter ignored him. Tank gave him a wide berth. There was a brooding, solitary quality about Kanoth that Tank, who was used to the comradeship and closeness between teammates, couldn’t quite comprehend. Scratching his waxed head, Tank arrived at his quarters, and finally settled down for a nap.

A knock came at Bear’s door.
“Come in.” Kanoth walked in with his head down, staring at the floor. Bear had been expecting him to ask about his assignment, but he had expected him to respect his request and wait until after his nap.
“Why are you doing this to me?”
“I think it will be good for you.”
“I don’t.”
“I don’t care.” Bear’s words came off a little more curtly than he had planned.
“And why do I have to babysit Tiffany?”
“She’ll be babysitting you actually, keeping you in line.”
“Tiffany? I respect you Bear, but I think you need to rethink that one. Her temper is worse than mine.”
“You will see. Now go somewhere else, I have things I need to do.” Kanoth left and closed the door quietly behind him. Bear took in a deep breath, and after a few minutes left his office as well, only to be nearly run over by an out of breath Flame. He panted a few times before speaking.
“I need you to allow me to go with Tiffany and Kanoth on the mission. I have a personal mission I must do: I must find and kill an assassin who destroyed my family. I will stay a bit away, doing my own scouting. If you allow me - well - I will be forever in your debt.”
“It’s a shame you asked me right now Flame,” said Bear sincerely. “I specifically asked all question to be left until after. I also cannot endorse some off the wall vendetta. You will not be receiving any help from the nephilim to chase after personal revenge missions. Going with Kanoth and Tiffany to the portal risks their safety. You will contribute to our mission by finding information about these back stabbing angels, or you will stay at home; end of discussion.” He walked past Flame before the young man could answer. No more interruptions.
~~~
Tiffany chewed a piece of egg slowly. It no longer had taste, nor much of a texture, but she didn’t even notice. She was completely absorbed in her own thoughts. Bear had trusted her to go on a recon mission with only one other person, and an extremely violent and unpredictable person at that. Why the sudden change in attitude? It had seemed just a few days ago that he was punishing her, now he was allowing her to go on the exciting missions. She was one of the few out in the field. It didn’t add up for her.
She decided to find Kanoth and talk to him about the mission. He was no longer in the cafeteria, and she assumed that he had gone back to his room already. She walked up to his door and knocked quietly.
After his training, Anu decided to contemplate the meaning of the existence of life, and just as he was forming his final answer, his soul started to exit his body as his organic body turned to complete noncorporeal energy, and he was able to see--not only see, but experience--the entire universe all at once-- it was at this point that realized what he must do to save the universe--it was simple really--all he needed to do was...
[Knock, knock, knock]
"Hello, Anu, you there?," Matt yelled through the door.
"Yeah, be right there," Anu said as he awoke, trying to remember what it was he was dreaming about. "Bahh, oh well, probably wasn't important anyway," Anu thought to himself as he answered his door.
"Sorry to wake you, but it's already 10 o'clock. We should be leaving soon."
"Guess it's a good thing I never got around to unpacking my suitcase. I'm ready as I'll ever be; what about you."
"Already called the taxi. He should be meeting us on the corner in 10 minutes."
Matt and Anu get in taxi-->taxi drives to airport-->Anu slides his lead-shielded cane-sword through the x-ray machine-->Anu and Matt get on airplane-->plane takes off-->plane lands in Paris.
As Anu and Matt exit the plane, Anu asks what he thought would be a simple question, "So...where do we start?"
(OOC: FlameTrooper, Remember, this is an RP and they are playing their parts as they feel accurately portray their character-- nothing against you personally. Kanoth probably wouldn't help out his own grandmother, much less someone he's never even met. And Bear is the person who's always looking at the bigger picture. He's trying to save the world while you're requesting permission to go off on some personal vendetta-- the two don't mesh well. If you had somehow tied in your personal vendetta to the overall storyline there would have been a better chance that Bear would have listened to you, but as it is, you pretty much have created your own "story within a story" that has little or nothing to do with anything that anyone else has posted. Don't get discouraged though-- just remember, it's good to tie in your character with what everyone else is doing and the main storyline overall. With that said, just because Bear said you can't tag along doesn't mean you can't hop in their trunk before they take off to the portal ;) )
Kanoth no longer had the patience to wait on Bear to return. Knocking on he door, he heard Bear call him in, which he did immediately. Before Bear could even say anything about Kanoth interrupting him, he asked the first line of questions.
“Why are you doing this to me?”
“I think it will be good for you.”
“I don’t.”
“I don’t care.”
“And why do I have to baby-sit Tiffany?”
“She’ll be babysitting you actually, keeping you in line.”
Kanoth was astounded by Bear’s words. It was one thing to put him on a lowly recon mission, despite the fact that his skills were best used elsewhere. But to be chaperoned by another person was entirely different. He didn’t approve of it one bit and he let Bear know it by his tone of voice.
“Tiffany!? I respect you Bear, but I think you need to rethink that one. Her temper is worse than mine.”
“You will see. Now go somewhere else, I have things I need to do.”
Without making a sound, Kanoth turned and retreated from Bears office, slamming the door behind him as he went. Returning to his room, he passed by Flame who looked up at Kanoth and asked him if he had seen Bear. Kanoth didn’t bother to stop and tell him where Bear was but rather told him to get out of his way. He wasn’t in any sort of mood to help others. As he rounded the corner to his room, he saw Tiffany knocking on his door. Speaking in a cold tone, Tiffany turned and looked at him.
“What do you want?”
“Kanoth? Yeah, that must be you. Guess everything I’ve heard about you is true.”
“I don’t give a damn about what you’ve heard. What have you come here for, to gloat over being in charge? Well, I don’t give a damn what Bear says. I don’t work with anyone…ever.”
Tiffany seemed shocked by Kanoth’s words. Evidently Bear hadn’t told her that she was in charge of this one.
“What, you didn’t know? Heh, well I guess daddies little girl must really mean something to him. You still haven’t answered my question though. What do you want?”
“First of all, I’m not his “little girl” as you so rudely put it. Now, I came up here to discuss the mission with you. Like it or not, we’re going to be working together on this one. Now, I don’t know why I was paired with you, and I too don’t really care, but orders are orders and we’re going to get along on this one, got it?”
Kanoth simply stared at Tiffany, his anger subsiding slightly by her words. He couldn’t quite place a finger on it, but there was something that he liked about her. Perhaps it was the fact that they weren’t too completely different aside from physical appearance. Maybe he could actually get along with this one. Nodding lightly, he walked over to his door, opening it and ushering her inside before closing it behind them. Once they were alone, he turned and looked at her, Tiffany staring at the shrine placed against the far wall. There was something more to Kanoth than what she had imagined, something calming about his presence that was contagious, helping to calm her stirring nerves. As she continued to gaze at his room, he spoke to her with a kinder tone of voice.
“Now…let us discuss this mission in peace. Perhaps I could offer you some tea, or even some Sake.”
Startled by his offer, she stood there almost dumb-founded by his expression of kindness.
(OOC: Tag GD. Hope you don’t mind me using Tiffany there. Go ahead and post their conversation as you see fit and we’ll start the mission once you’re ready.)
“I can’t say that I’ve tried sake before,” Tiffany said, not moving from her spot in the middle of the room. The shrine had surprised Tiffany greatly, and she was now uncertain where it would be appropriate to sit.
“Well then we’ll have sake,” he said, motioning towards the floor. She stared at his outstretched arm for a moment before realizing that he intended for her to sit on the floor. This was already becoming a much stranger experience than she had intended.
“What do you know about the mission?” he asked. His voice was now soft. Tiffany couldn’t tell if he was sincere or patronizing.
“Only that an angel named Adar runs the place with an iron fist. He’s pretty powerful in Heaven too.”
“And what are we supposed to find?” asked Kanoth as he poured the sake into shallow cups. He brought them to where Tiffany was sitting and set them on a small mat.
“Bear said we just need to scout the place out. We should probably get a layout of the building, find out where exactly this Adar works in the compound, and looks for any weak spots.” She took a sip of the sake. It was neither warm nor cold, and had a distinctive taste she couldn’t quite place. “Do you drink this a lot?”
“Yes, it’s my favorite drink.”
“Doesn’t it have alcohol?” she asked as she took another sip.
“Yes,” he answered simply. The fact seemed unimportant. “I think we should probably check out the portal itself too.”
“If we can. We don’t want to get caught in a fire fight.”
“Bear doesn’t want us caught in a fire fight.” He looked at her and Tiffany understood. He was not any more happy about the recon mission than she had been the day before. He was hoping that there would be some kind of trouble at the portal, that they would have to fight. He wanted explosions, gun blasts, blood. She echoed his wishes. They both knew that they would obey their orders though.
Tiffany held his gaze for a long time as they both sat in silence. She saw the same fire in his eyes as Bear had described in hers. It was like looking into a mirror. She felt as if she already knew him. They could have been childhood friends that lived on the same street their whole lives. She realized Kanoth would be the one who would understand her, in a way that no one else had. Not even Bear.
“When should we leave?” she asked finally.
“Tonight? I see no point in putting it off.”
“Tonight then.”
Crazy Tom
Gathering information
Crazy got into the coach the following afternoon and drove the group of nephilim with him to Old Lady Shadow's. The establishment was in the basement of an old converted office building, reached by a set of iron steps leading down into the gloom. Two bouncers stood at the door, one angel, one demon. Their auras were palpable to Crazy as he approached, at the head of the group. Gabe stepped up behind him. He felt safer then. Brazilian jujitsu all very good, but there were times when you just wanted pure muscle - which Gabe had in abundance. The angel and the demon didn't need muscle, though. They were both clearly very old and very powerful. Crazy knew from stories of when people had made trouble that the demon could bring fire and the angel could bring ice. Whether that was true or not he hoped he'd never find out.
The group were checked over by and allowed in by a third man who came outside - a nephilim who could sense what the powers of others were. Adrian, his name was. Bear had been trying for years, it was rumoured, to get the hybrid to join his movement. But the man remained steadfastly neutral - as did all regular visitors to Old Lady Shadow's. No one wanted a fight to break out. He nodded to Crazy first, who went inside while Adrian checked over the others.
It was dark inside, with gentle music playing and some soft coloured lighting providing the exact minimum level of illumination required for moving about without tripping over. A brighter area near the centre of the long bar meant that those who wanted to be seen could be seen, while those who wished to remain in shadow could be hidden. There were few of the former – most of the people in the bar wore dark glasses or had their hoods pulled up and their hats pulled down. Crazy pulled his own hood up round his head, and he knew the hoody would soon stink of cigarette smoke and booze.
“Tom Lennon.” A voice called out. Crazy’s heart twitched. Not many people knew his real name outside of Nephilim HQ, and most of those would have called him ‘Crazy’ anyway. He knew that voice though… a voice he hadn’t heard in a long while. He turned to face the speaker, jerking back instinctively but still unable to avoid the stinging slap she’d aimed at him. Ruefully rubbing his cheek, he contrived to look apologetic.
“I guess I deserved that.” He mumbled.
“Damn right you did.” The girl hissed. She was only a year old than him, but tall enough to use her height to make him feel intimidated.
“Tanya, I-”
“You make a single excuse and I’ll make that slap look like a kiss on the cheek.” She interrupted, threatening him with a raised fist.”
“I’m sorry.” He said. “What the hell was I supposed to do?”
“You could have told us you were leaving. You could have told me.” Something in her seemed to soften. Abruptly, she grabbed him and hugged him fiercely. “You could have stayed.” She whispered.
“I was never going to be a real criminal, Tanya. When I met Bear, he gave me something no one had ever given me before.”
“A solid bumming?” She asked, looking at him with mock fear. Crazy rolled his eyes at her.
“Purpose.”
“I see. And what ‘purpose’ are you on tonight?”
“Information.” He told her. “Something’s come up. There’s a lot of strange business going on back… home. But two of my friends have gone off to Paris, while Bear seems to be getting more and more paranoid each day. We found some… stuff, that seems to have worried him.”
“Well, you know I won’t join your little crusade.” Tanya said. “But I’ll still help you.”
“For old time’s sake?” Crazy asked, putting a friendly arm round her.
“For old time’s sake.” She nodded. Next moment, she was kissing him, then let him go.
“What was that for?”
“Old time’s sake.” She said innocently. He grinned at her. “Now, what sort of info are you looking for? Demon, right?”
“Demon.” He said, looking around to see if anybody were watching them. “How’d you know?”
“They’ve been buzzing for weeks. Nothing solid, like, but it’s like watching bad poker players who’ve suddenly got a pair of aces. They’ve been bolder, Larry and Jeff have come inside a few times. Nothing’s ever going to happen with those two around, but it still gets tense, sometimes.”
“Do you know anybody who might be able to tell me more?” He asked her. It was Tanya’s turn to look around nervously.
“I probably shouldn’t tell you this.” She whispered. “But there’s a demon-only hideout me and the gang found a few weeks back on Shell Avenue, really new and run by some faces we didn’t recognise. All demons, though. They had that smoky smell, the one that’s just too faint to really put your finger on.”
“Thanks, Tanya. I’ll check it out.”
“Hey, you’re not going to leave yet.” She informed him.
“Why not?” He said, teasing her.
“Old time’s sake.” She said, grabbing his hand and leading him toward the bar.
(OOC: It'd be cool if Bear could make use of the news about the new demon hideout, or something.
*The lower district. These streets are dangerous...i should take care...*
He wandered around the lower district and found the old buildings... 7 men aproached...
*What are you doing here punk?*
*Nothing. I was just wander....*
*Don't bullshit me boy. You whiterobes aren't as smart as it's said...*
The next moment they knocked him unconscious.
.................................................. ..................................................
He slowly opened his eyes... a small light was there, a demon guard at the gate and 3 demons around him.
*You took part in the attack of the uotpost. Many died there. It seems that you and your fellows will pay. Where is your hidout??*
Mat smiled. *Go and find it.*
*Agreed. Now tell me where is it.*
*You demons aren't as smart as it's said.*
With a great rage the demon hit Mat.
*You'll tell us. You're lucky the boss wants us to report in.*
The 3 demons left.
Mat looked around he was tied with handcuffs to a chair and he couldn't move... Then an idea hit him...
*I can make enemies feel enourmous pain that means i can induce various fellings...*
He closed his eyes and concentrated. He induced a feeling which gave him enormous physical strength. He opened his eyes...they changed they were wight and flashing... the next moments the handcuffs were shattered.
*Thank heave...* Mat looked at his hands, they were bleeding. Of course he simply induced the feeling his physical strength didn't change but by having the feeling that it did he felt no pain when he broke the handcuffs.
He slowly approached the gate, quickly openeed it and with a single blow he knocked the demon out.
*This hand-to-hand training really pays off.*
Then an object on the table captured his attention. It was a n angelic medallion similar to the stone he saw Anu carrying... He took it and placed it in his robe....
.................................................. .................................................. ..........
The demons were approaching the room. They entered and found a dead demon on the floor.
*What the hell???*
*ALARM! The Prisoner has escaped no one must leave the building.*
*I thought you said you had him...*
*We did but he escaped...we'll catch him meanwhile you 2 take the van and dump this dead fellow somewhere.*
*Yes sir!*
They loaded the demon corpse into the van and parted...
.................................................. .................................................. .....
After driving a bit they entered an alleyway. A demon descended and opened the van. A hand cam eout of nowhere, grebbed the demon's neck and kileed him. Mat descended from the back of the wagon. Took the demon's gun and shot the driver, then parted for the nephilim HQ...
.................................................. .................................................. .....
Meanwhile back at the demon hideout a patrolling guard looked up at the window of the room where Mat was held hostage and saw a demon corpse lying on the ground. He hastely called his superiors.
*This is the guard who was suppose to guard the halfbreed. But i thoughtwe disposed of him.*
*Sir! The 2 who were suppose to dump him aren't answering... hey what's that in his hand?*
He took the note and opened it...it was a message:
"By the time you read this you will have realised that I am beyond your reach, and soon i will have the pleasure of sending you all back to hell.
With respect,
Illusion
P.S: Fuck you!"
*The prisoner has escaped and he will probably soon come with his fellows. Everyone stay at your posts and inform me of anyone that comes near we can't afford to have the same fate as the Hades Outpost.*
*Yes sir!*
IC: Tank stood with his arms outstretched, and felts swift hands pat over his body checking for weapons. The bouncer stood and nodded, motioning him to enter. The angel looked about 30 or so, fighting fit although a bit short. However, when Tank saw his eyes, he immediately knew that this was no ordinary messenger of God. No weird colors or anything but there seemed to be an infinite wisdom and power inside those cold blue eyes that only surviving a millennium of battles and death could bring. Tank shuddered and headed in.
It was pretty much what Bill expected when he went in. Dark, smoky, only the flicker of a few lights provided the illumination to navigate around the place. Tank looked around, scratching his head, before the rest of the Nephilim entered. Someone muttered into his ear ‘We’ll take booths. You and the rest handle the bar’
The half-angel nodded, and moved off, securing a seat at the bar. The barman strolled up ‘What’ll it be?’
‘Err...you guys have Fosters?’
‘Nope.’
‘Carltons?’
‘Nope.’
‘Eh…well that sucks. What’s that over there?’ Tank asked, pointing. The barman turned his head
‘Oh, Magic Hat #9. Fruit beer. Tastes like apricots.’
Tank quirked an eyebrow. ‘Really? Gimme some of that then.’ The barman nodded and tapped off a mug, setting it down infront of the half angel. Tank raised the mug, sipped gingerly. Not bad he thought, and took a deep gulp.
‘So, you’re here for information?’
Tank lowered the mug slowly and slowly turned to the speaker, sizing him up. There wasn’t anything remarkably special about him. Tall, lean, dressed in jeans and hoodie which casting a shadow across his face that effectively rendered him anonymous. Bill flicked his eyes around the room. He spotted a few Nephilim hanging around the bar, chatting. A giggle drew his attention to Crazy, who seemed to be on very familiar terms with his lady friend. He pulled his eyes back to the stranger.
‘Maybe.’ He replied vaguely, ‘take a seat, and we’ll talk.'
Kanoth finished his sake with a heavy sip, pouring himself another shot and sipping on it till it was finished. After agreeing on leaving tonight, Kanoth rose to his feet, offering an extended hand down to Tiffany to help her to her feet. As they both exited the room, Kanoth made a simple comment.
“I suggest that we move on foot. Seeing as how we are going straight to the lion’s den if you will, then I think it would be best if we moved with stealth. A vehicle will make us to much of a target.”
“True, but then again this place is to far away to simply walk. Unlike you, I don’t exactly have the ability to move very fast. Unless you’re intending to carry me on your back, it’ll take us to long to get to Paradise. Something tells me that you probably won’t go with that idea, so we’ll have to take a vehicle.”
Kanoth nodded lightly and sighed to himself. He hated vehicles with a passion. To him they were nothing more than just modern day death traps. Nevertheless she was right. As they headed downstairs to the garage, Echidna’s voice came over the P.A.
"Just like to let you all know that if you don't already have somewhere to go, we're giving out assignments in the basement. I've got some fun places here, so run on down!"
Together they headed into the garage, stopping in front of a black Mercedes with tinted windows; the perfect vehicle for reconnaissance. As they entered the car and pulled out, Tiffany broke the silence, never taking her eyes off the road.
“I have a question for you Kanoth. I hope you don’t mind if I ask.”
Kanoth sat there in silence, not say anything to her as they drove down the interstate. Gazing over at him, Tiffany thought she could she a look of fear in his eyes as they drove. She was completely surprised by this expression. Here she was with perhaps one of this most level headed Nephilim in the movement, yet he seemed afraid to be riding in a car. Shaking it off her mind, Tiffany asked her question.
“Why is it that you hate human’s so much Kanoth? I mean, the whole purpose of the Nephilim movement is to ensure that a war doesn’t break out on Earth for the good of the human race. I know that you understand this, yet you seem so willing to kill a pure blood human if you have the chance. Why is that?”
A minute or two of silence followed her question before Kanoth finally let out an audible sigh. He normally wouldn’t say anything to someone he just met about his personal life or reasons for what he did. Yet with Tiffany there was something familiar about her that made him feel at ease around her. Something he wasn’t to familiar with yet he wasn’t offended by it.
“Because they are responsible for the death of my parents.”
“Oh…I didn’t realize that. I’m…sorry.”
“It is nothing to be concerned about. No doubt we all have our own personal problems in our past. I am sure that yours was rather hard just as mine was.”
Tiffany reflected on her own life, remembering her mother and what she had done to her as a child. Trying to keep her calm, Tiffany glanced at Kanoth before asking him another, more personal question.
“Do you mind then if I ask about what happened to your parents?”
Kanoth looked over at her, a sad look in his eyes followed only by a soft smirk. For once he wasn’t being persecuted for his looks or views. It was…nice, for a change.
“My father, Ranuk Loddoss, was a great Demon warrior. He had fought in many battles against both Angels and Humans. Yet over time he grew tired of fighting; tired of war. So he left Hell and came to Earth. Looking for a place to live, he chose Japan for it’s rich heritage in honor and battle. It was there that he married a human woman named Keiko. He loved her very much and it was soon after that marriage when I was born. My father…he taught me much in the way of honor and battle, yet he taught me to never fight unless necessary. I honored his words, keeping to myself and avoiding any trouble that I could.”
Tiffany listened closely to Kanoth, his words filled with a warm feeling. As she listened, she could actually hear something in his voice that no one could have ever expected, not even Anu. It was both pride…and love. As she continued to listen, she felt her own soul enter into a battle of pity and envy.
“It was on my eighth birthday when they were stolen from me. A band of humans came to are secluded home wielding weapons. They entered are home undetected and attacked us while we sat in the family room. My mother was preparing a new room for my unborn sibling and my father was teaching me another lesson in sword fighting. Suddenly we heard my mother screaming and then silence. Then they came. Six humans intent on killing my father because of what he was. He told me to run, and at first I didn’t want to but I did as he said and hid myself in a closet. I watched as my father fought bravely, but eventually was overcome by force and was killed by their hands.”
“My God…what did you do?”
Kanoth smirked again, a dark almost evil sounding chuckle eminating from his throat.
“Simple. I got my revenge. I waited patiently, continuing my training on my own, honing my ability to kill with stealth. Eventually the time came, and I hunted them down, killing them in their own homes but only after forcing them to watch me murder their own families. Women, children, sons, daughters, and wives, none of that mattered to me. The only thing I was concerned about was seeking revenge for what they did to me. After that, my lust for blood could never end. I wanted them to pay, every single one of them.”
Tiffany shuddered lightly at his chilling words. Even Kanoth could be more twisted than herself. It was evident that he had a demonic side to him. Looking over at him, she simply shook her head and whispered softly.
“I am so sorry for your loss. They deserved what you did to them. I would have done nothing less myself.”
Kanoth didn’t reply and just focused his attention to the front. He couldn’t believe that he had just opened up to her so easily. It was indeed unusual for him, yet he felt as if a burden had been lifted from his shoulders. For once there was someone else that he could associate himself with; someone else that he could share his deeper feelings with. As his thoughts faded into nothingness, he saw a large building with a neon sign lighting the entrance way about 200 yards up the road. The sign allured it’s patrons to entrance way with two simple words, “Paradise Portal.”
“Stop the car, we’re here. We’ll move in on foot from here and gain access indiscreetly.”
(OOC: Tag GD. I’ll let you carry on with this part of the mission. Should be fun now. Time to let the blood flow babay!)
Name (nickname): David Greene (Spectre)
Age: 32
Gender: Male
Bloodline (angel or demon): Angel
Powers (if any): Can tell the lineage (Angel, Demon, Nephilim, or Human) of anyone simply by looking at them.
Appearance: 6'1" Shaggy dirty-blonde hair and beard, piercing green eyes. Wears black combat boots, black cargo pants, black large hooded sweatshirt, and a long black duster.
Bio: David Greene was born to an angel mother and an unknown father. He was raised as any normal child would be, except the fact that he was half angel, and led a normal life. There was nothing physically different about David, his power manifested internally, so to everyone around him he seemed like any other child would. Growing up David always knew his heritage; his mother was devout in teaching him the ways of heaven, despite the fact that she had been banished for having a child with a human man. Because of this he grew up despising demons and those who would associate with them, often getting in fights at school with nephilim who had demon in their blood.
As David grew up he went on to college, and eventually joined the police department of one of the larger cities in the country. After only two years, at the age of 23, he was accepted into SWAT where he excelled as a sharpshooter. Everyday as a cop he had to deal with demons and humans who were working with demons (whether they knew it or not he couldn't tell). This only increased his hatred for their kind.
Yet when he was 29 years old his mother was diagnosed with an unknown disease. She went and pleaded with those that guarded the portals to heaven to allow her through so that she could be healed of this fatal disease, yet they refused. Only a year later she succumb to the disease, for there were no human medicines that could combat it. The person David had been closest to in this world had been killed by the inactions of his very own people. The people he had been taught that he could trust to do the right thing.
David realized then that the only people in this world that hadn't hurt him were humans. He took his hatred for demons and his anger toward angels, and vowed that he would do everything he could to cause as much damage to their causes as he could. With that vow, he quit his job, sold all of his possessions except for his rifle, and now lives a life of wandering, hunting down the portals to heaven and hell and doing as much damage as he can.
(note: This life of wandering means no place to live, so David often sleeps on the streets and looks a rather lot like a bum.)
Relevant skills: Expert Marksman, but due to his focus on accuracy with firearms he is rather useless in hand to hand encounters.
David was stumbling down the street, bumping in to the ocassional passing pedestrian, slurring his apologies to them. To everyone who saw him he just appeared to be another homeless, drunk, bum. But to him everyone else looked much different; he could see what they truly were: humans, half-breeds, demons, and angels. The latter were becoming more and more prominent as he stumbled down the street. Finally he saw his objective in the distance.
"Those arrogant bastards, they have the audacity to announce their hideout to the world with a glowing neon sign. What's worse though, the fact that they do it, or that nobody else seems to notice?"
As he walked by the entrance to the large building he noticed the two large angelic bouncers on the outside of the building, and through a closing door at least four more on the inside, undoubtedly more. His years of experience on the force had trained him to look for the dangers that any suspect could pose to him. The two on the outside had no weapons; which was a smart move on the Angels' part, armed bouncers would bring a SWAT team down on this place faster than you could say "police brutality". However, the guards on the inside were heavily armed, automatic weapons and body armor; they may have been hiding em from the unknowing human patrons, who probably had no clue what the real purpose of this establishment was, but he had seen too many people like that in his career to not know that they weren't as innocent as they seemed.
As the door closed, cutting off his view of the inside, he "accidentally" stumbled into one of the guards. The guard didn't even budge, he just easily pushed David to the ground and told him to, "get your drunk ass out of here", David immediately knew he was just an underling. Besides his obvious status told by his position as a mere guard, most higher ranking angels were much more eloquent with their words. Nevertheless, David did what he was told.
He stumbled his way down the street to a tall, dilapidated building. When he stumbled into the alley he immediately straightened himself up, and ran to the fire escape, quickly ascending to the top floor and letting himself into a window, as he had expected the building was just as deserted and rundown inside as it looked outside. He quickly exited the apartment he had come in from and found one that overlooked the entrance to Paradise Portal. Reaching around to his back, underneath his duster he drew out his rifle. After checking the weapon over to ensure that it was still in good condition since it's last use, he pulled his hood over his head and crouched at the window; for now he would wait, looking like only a shadow he sighted down his scope and awaited the arrival of his target.
Tiffany saw the glow off in the distance, it's form taking shape and coming into focus as they drew closer. She could soon read the words painted across the night sky in inks of pure light: Paradise Portal. Some kind of business was serving as a front for the portal.
"Stop the car, we're here. We'll move in on foot from here and gain access indiscreetly," said Kanoth. She pulled over in response and parked the car in a half full lot behind a restaurant. The smell of seafood and burnt cooking oil filled the air, causing her to almost gag as she stepped out of the car. She slammed the car door closed and turned around to see a man in an apron walk out of the back of the restaurant with a pot in his hands. He poured a thick liquid into the gutter and went back through the creaky door.
"Remind me not to come here to eat," she said. She saw a half smile appear on Kanoth's face. He had definitely let his guard down in front of her. She gave him a half smile in return.
They walked towards the large building in silence. The Paradise Portal appeared to be a high class casino and hotel. There were large men in black suits and dark sunglasses standing outside the automatic doors, and a valet was pulling out of the driveway with a midnight blue sports car. A woman in a cocktail dress and a diamond bracelet around her wrist waved to the guards and walked inside.
"I don't think we can get in looking like this," said Tiffany.
"We will."
"But don't you think it's a little conspicuous? We're wearing binoculars. I think we could probably get on the roof and climb in that way. Kanoth, where are you going?" He had walked away from her mid sentence and was now aiming straight for the front doors. She ran to catch up with him and grabbed his upper arm tightly. "We cannot simply walk through those doors, they will know something is up."
"Just follow me, there won't be a problem." They stood for a moment; Tiffany's anger beginning to boil and Kanoth's mood still calm. She knew it was strange that he was like that. He must have known something she didn't.
"Fine," she said quickly, and released his arm. Kanoth promptly intertwined his arm with hers and held it there. She snapped her head around to look at him. His face changed to one of pure joy. Tiffany understood. They were to pretend they were a couple. She could do that. She mirrored his face, and they walked towards the guards again together.
As they approached the doors, one of the men stepped in front of them.
"The Paradise Portal is quite upclass, and you can't get in looking like that. You look like you just got back from a hunting trip."
"We're just going straight up to our hotel room," said Kanoth happily; the overly bright tone of his voice almost betraying him. She immediately thought that the bouncer would see through his facade.
"A bit of role play, if you catch my drift," she added quickly, throwing in a wink for good measure. The man nodded slowly and let them enter the casino.
"What was that?" Kanoth asked.
"We're here aren't we?" He nodded and let go of her arm. They made their way to the elevators and pushed the emergency stop midway between floors. They climbed through the roof of the elevator and entered the maintenance floor between the roof of the casino and the hotel floors. It was simple to set up a laptop and tap into the casino's wireless network, with the help of Turtle back at the Center. They soon had all of the cameras in the entire complex bugged, including the ones in the basement, where the angel technology was hidden.
Kanoth didn't bother helping Tiffany set up to small command center to view the surveillance. It was probably for the best too, as he would have only made things worse. As the screen switched between the different cameras he spotted the Angel technology and frowned. He was in the mood to spill some blood tonight, and the mood was reflected by his constant gripping of his sword. Kanoth knew that he was easily out gunned, but it didn't matter. He had one skill that those clumsy guards didn't, and that was stealth. Fighting back the urge to run off and investigate the foriegn technology, he released the hilt of his sword and let out a soft sigh, trying his best to release the tension building up inside of him. Besides, he knew that he could handle a fight on his own, but how would Tiffany hold up on her own. Glancing down at her momentarily, he didn't bother her as she continued to observe the screen, closing his eyes and turning to thought.
Kanoth had never once before in his life been so open with anyone about the death of his family. Yet here he was, telling his whole life story to someone he barely knew. He had always managed to keep his feelings inside him, using them to fuel his ability to fight hard and succeed over his agressors. Despite always keeping a cool demeanor, inside his soul was at constant battle with itself. He had tried for years to calm this climatic struggle inside himself through meditation, yet it had never truly been successful. Now though, he felt that he had someone who could understand him; someone who could understand his train of thought and the actions that he did. Though he had only just met Tiffany this night, Kanoth felt as though he had known her his entire life, as if she were a sister. There was something about her that put his soul at ease. Was it perhaps the fact that they were so similar? He couldn't quite place it, but when this mission was over, he intended to try and get to know Tiffany better. Until then, he made it his own personal mission to ensure her safety, no matter what the cost was. A soft sigh from his female companion interrupted his train of thought.
"Looks like it's going to be a quiet night...unfortunately," Tiffany mumbled.
Smirking lightly, Kanoth looked down at her and made his reply.
"You seem like you desire a little more action. Perhaps something to help quench that fire which is burning inside of your soul."
Tiffany was startled by his ability to read her so easily.
"How could you tell?"
"I can see it in your eyes. It is the same fire that rages within my own soul. The beast that desires to come out and spread it's own wanton destruction."
"I see. Well, you are right about that. Bear always tells me the same thing, but I never did really believe him. Yet with you, I seem to be more at ease with myself. It's as if your presence is the water that can soothe a burn. I guess that sounds crazy though. I'm not usually so philisophical."
Kanoth grinned lightly to her response, amused by her choice of words.
"Believe me, I understand completely. I too feel the same when I am around you. Perhaps after this mission is complete we can discuss these things more liberally."
"I think...I would like that."
With that said the room fell into silence as they both continued to watch the monitor, Tiffany uploading the area schematics and video feed straight to Turtle back at the center.
(OOC: I didn't get into to much action on this one, but rather I just showed Kanoth on a more internal level. I wanted the rest of you to finally see Kanoth for what he really is and the reason why he is the way he is. That was the purpose of this post and the previous. That and I didn't want to interfere with Tech's post. Anyways, I hope that this will do for now.)
"I said leave already!"
"Look, you owe me aleast a little, just tell me something, the angels are creati-"
"Shut up, shut up, shut up! I don't know anything anymore, I'm just a wreck, get out of here, OUT!"
Earandal scowled, "Just tell me why, you must know that?"
"THERE IS NOTHING HERE!"
The man infront of him snarled, before gulping down another gill of , something.
"We're going around in circles, I don't want your money, I just need information. You have that. Just tell me what I need to know, and the debt is done with!"
Earandal grimaced as harsh laughter responded to him. With a laden sigh he pushed himself off the bar wall and made for the door.
"Guess your'e right..."
"Damn straight...hiccup"
He had no sooner begun to step outside that a gunshot cut into his ears. Suprised, the man flattened himself and was already rolling to the nearest cover. Earandal's eyes darted across the street, when he realized that nobodyy was shooting at him.
What the hell was that?
Bolt action rifle, the cartridge was definitely unidentified, maybe a block away?
Crap, the damn portal.
David sat crouched by the window waiting, his form was an unmoving shadow. The long black duster spread out across the floor behind him, his muscles steady and as unmoving as steel beneath the fabric, his chest slowly moving in and out with his slow steady breathing. In the silence and stillness of the evening he was left with only his thoughts to keep him company. The problem was that his thoughts had turned against him these last few years.
He used to sit on rooftops overlooking the scene of a barricaded suspect or hostage situation, in those days his thoughts brought him comfort, they calmed his nerves and gave him a peace about what he might have to do that day. Now his thoughts only brought him pain, anger, hatred. He no longer thought about the times in his life when he was happiest, no visions of playing in the sprinklers with his friends, no sign of his first kiss, no parties with his college buddies entered his thoughts anymore. The only thing he thought about was his mother; and everytime he did he felt a stabbing pain in his chest, an emptyness that wouldn't be filled. He saw her weak, frail form in his mind, she was just laying there in the hospital bed, he could see her slipping away from him as she told him,
"Don't blame them dear, I knew what I was doing when I came to live here. They can't change the rules for me, it's not their fault."
How could he not blame them? They has stood there and looked into the face of his mother and turned her away to die, they could have healed her in a matter of moments and they chose not to. Everyone of them deserved to die for what they had done to her. They had taken her from him, so he would take them from those that they loved.
His thoughts were interrupted by the big black SUV that turned down the street and approached the Paradise Portal. He knew his target would be within his grasp soon enough. The valet made no motion towards the car as it stopped in front of the building, all four doors opened at the same time and four giant angelic guards stepped from the car. All of them were wearing black suits and dark glasses, the bulge of their guns showing through their suit coats. They cleared the area of any civilians and then the driver tossed the keys to the valet. As the SUV was driven away, a black limo turned the corner.
"This one has more security than most others, he must be very affluent on the other planes, perhaps tonight I will finally make heaven tremble."
The limo stopped and two more guards exited the vehicle, with a quick nod from the driver of the SUV one of the new guards walked to the back door of the limo and opened it.
"So we finally see the one who is destined to die tonight."
The angel who stepped from the limo was tall, probably close to seven feet from what David could tell, he was wearing a pristine white suit and as he stood he made sure to straighten his tie and smooth any wrinkles as his bodyguards surrounded him.
"This one sure has a high opinion of himself, oh how the proud shall fall."
David centered the cross-hairs of his scope on the head of the angel they called Adar. With one last thought of his mother, a tear formed in the corner of his eye. As it began to roll slowly down his face he eased back his finger. With nothing more than a whisper the bullet exited the barrel and entered the skull of the angel. Before he had even fallen to the ground, the bolt of the rifle had been pulled back, the expended cartridge ejected and a new round loaded into the chamber. Before the bodyguards could realize what had happened one of them had fallen and another round had been loaded into the chamber. David continued to find new targets as the guards were trying to determine where the shots had come from. David confirmed each target to himself before he fired, an old habit from his days on SWAT.
"Confirmed angel, fire. Confirmed angel, fire. Human, find new target. Confirmed angel, fire."
Two of the bodyguards and both bouncers were dead before they figured out which direction the shots had come from and took cover. Now David just sat in wait, eventually an unknowing angel would move too far from cover and his life would be snuffed out. Undoubtedly reinforcements were being rallied inside to avenge the death of their leader, and David couldn't wait to wreak havoc among them as well, but for now he still had to deal with the remaining four bodyguards.
Tiffany’s head snapped up to the monitor as the blur of motion streamed across her field of vision. People were moving very fast outside, in front of the building. The entrance she had just passed through a few minutes ago was now seeing frantic activity. See concentrated on the image.
“You getting this Turtle?” she asked through her ear piece. Kanoth opened his eyes and bent down next to her to take a look. A man on the screen fell to the ground and lay limp, joining several other bodies. The bouncers tried to pull the bodies under the cover of the building, but they too fell to the ground, one after the other, a pool of blood beginning to form on the concrete.
“Someone is shooting them. Must be a sniper, or else they’d retaliate.”
“What are we going to do?” asked Turtle.
“Just wait, we need to see what’s going on first,” replied Kanoth. The two of them stood in silence in front of the glowing computer monitor. A van had pulled up in front of the building to provide cover for the remaining guards. They were pulling the bodies into the van. Then Tiffany noticed the stark white suit.
“Adar is dead,” she said suddenly.
“What?” asked Kanoth.
“I said he’s dead. Look, there he is in the van right now.”
“It could be someone else.”
“No it’s him. Only he has that kind of security. This is just a casino, remember? We need to get to the basement now, while there’s still some chaos about this.” Kanoth nodded. They left the communication set up so Turtle could keep an eye on them and went back into the elevator shaft. It was a short drop to the basement, just a few floors, and they were soon just outside an air vent leading into a large room scattered with computers.
“Let us know when we can go in,” said Tiffany to Turtle.
“Well things are a little crazy right now. There going to start locking the place down very quickly. Might want to go in now.”
“We’re on it,” she said, pressing her shoulder against the vent. It popped out of it frame and fell to the ground with a loud bang. The room they entered was empty, with a single set of glass doors opening to a hallway.
‘You kids should really be less conspicuous. Entering in a bunch like that, it’s a miracle that nobody realized who you were the second you stepped through that door.’
Tank coughed slightly in embarrassment. ‘So…you know what we’re after don’t you?’
‘Yep. You guys always pop in once in awhile to get some inside info. That’s how I knew, thought I must admit I’ve never seen you before. Woulda taken you for a new guy, but you handle yourself differently to rookies.’
‘New transfer’
‘Ah. I’m Edward by the way.’
‘William.’ They shook hands and sat in silence, drinking thoughtfully. Tank finally spoke. ‘Well, whattaya got?’
The stranger looked somewhat mournfully at his empty glass. Tank understood immediately. ‘Barman! Another round for my mate here.’ He turned back to the hooded man and quirked an eyebrow.
As soon as his glass was full again, the stranger reached into his pocket, drew out a photo and placed it in front of Tank. It showed an elegantly dressed man, tall, with a shock of blond hair and light green eyes. Edward tapped it. ‘Alexis Harvard. 45 year old Caucasian male, half angel, half demon and currently the leader of the Spectrals. Heard of them?’
Tank shook his head. ‘Can’t say I have.’
‘Group of Nephilim’s, just like you folks. Working day and night to protect humanity from the clutches of angels and demons alike. However, they’re going at it a bit differently.’
‘Oh?’
‘Yeah. Alexis’s had a demon father and an angel mother. The problem was that both his parents were pretty up high in their respective planes, and the head honchos from both sides believed that if news of them getting married and having a little angel demon hybrid was leaked to their forces, morale would drop. So Alexis and his mother became targets for the demonic assassins, while he and his father found themselves on the hit list for the angels.’
‘I can see where this is going.’ Tank said, pulling out a packet of cigarettes.
‘I’m sorry sir, but there’s no smoking allowed here.’ The bartender informed him.
‘What? Oh right. Sorry.’
Edward took a pull at his beer and continued. ‘Well, you could probably guess the rest. As fate would have it, both teams of assassins struck within seconds of one another, and it turned into a bloodbath, both sides damn near wiped each other out. Alexis survived by hiding in the basement. He was only an 8 year old boy then, and seeing your family getting butchered by 2 groups of strangers ain’t something you’d forget. Incident made him go cold, withdrawn. By the time he grew up, he was on the borderline of insanity. He swore an oath to destroy both heaven and hell…’
Tank barked a short, bitter laugh ‘It’s not like he’s gonna make it over there anyway. The portals are like the most heavily guarded outposts for demon and angels alike. You’re gonna need an army if you even want a chance to get to the other side.’
Edward smiled mirthlessly, ‘Exactly. The Spectrals have been around for years. Two hundred or so Nephilim operatives all together, spread all over the US, waging a war against both holy and demonic forces. Recently, Alexis’ been recruiting. He’s got some weird hypnosis telepathic power, makes everyone who listens to him obey him, probably cos of his blood. He’s been talking to anyone who has men to spare. The Mafia, The Triad, gangsters, and they’re at a point where they’d slaughter anyone who looks at Alexis the wrong way.’
Tank sat back, a sudden sheen of perspire glinting on his bald head. ‘Christ…’ he breathed.
‘Something’s gonna be done about Alexis. He’s got a small army backing him up, weapons wise he has everything from Desert Eagles to AK-47’s to RPG’s. The man could try to strike any side at a moments notice. If he makes a sufficient push, it might unbalance the war, and the other side could take the rest out. Which, from our point of view, isn’t a good thing.’
Tank rubbed his head, drink forgotten. ‘I guess we are gonna have to do something about him. Any idea’s where he’s based up?’
‘Yeah.’ Edward scribbled down an address on the back of the photo. ‘He’s got some pretty heavy security, so if you are going in, you better be prepared.’
‘Righto. Thanks for the information Ed. Barman!’ Tank reached into his wallet and laid out several bills. ‘Give my friend here anything he wants.’
Edward smiled broadly, ‘Why that’s mighty obliging of you.’
Tank shrugged ‘Was nice meeting you anyway.’ The large man stuck out his hand.
Ed gripped it firmly ‘Same here.’
William finished his drink and sauntered out. The day seemed over cast in the wake of what he’d been told and he leaned against the wall with a smoking cigarette dangling from his mouth. One by one the rest of the group filtered out, finally Crazy himself appeared.
‘Right, let’s head back to HQ.’
Mat approached Bear's office.
*Knock*
"Come in!"
"Sir, I have discovered something that might interest you..."
Mat placed the angelic medalion on the table.
"Where did you get this?" Bear asked surprised
"A demon outpost..."
"I said not to get into trouble!"
"They captured me I didn't even know they were there."
"What? Where?"
"The lower district of town near the deserted district."
Bear sighed, then said
"We have to do something about this..."
"No need to, they've left..."
"Why?"
"I escaped probably they figured we would come sooner or later so they fled but at least we know that the rumors regarding the traitorous angels are true."
"Indeed. Thanks, now you should get back to gathering information..."
"Yes sir!"
"Oh Mat and by the way...how did you escape?"
Mat smiled... "Magic!"
Then he exited Bear's office and went towards his room.
Name (nickname): Yuki Takeshi (a.k.a. Okaeshi)
Age: 21
Gender: Female
Bloodline (angel or demon): Angel
Powers (if any): Being only a half angel, Yuki doesn't have very many abilities. Her strongest power is her ability to make a duplicate of herself. This is very energy consuming and she can't keep the duplicate for long.
Appearance: Yuki wears a white armour covering her breasts, left shoulder and a guantlet on her left arm, an eloquent white cape flowing behind her. She is equipped with dual katana's which she uses only for defense. Yuki has long red hair and green eyes, her skin flawless and untouched by any battles.
Bio/History with nephilim movement: Despite being a Nephilim, Yuki has nothing to do with any known Nephilim movement. Rather, she is a modern day mercenary who hires herself out as a guardian to whoever will pay the most. Her most recent employer, Mr. Adar pays her very well to defend a portal known only as the Paradise Portal, yet this is only a temporary job. Yuki has always been a peaceful person, never once intentionally drawing another persons blood, whether they be Angel, Demon, or Human. She still lives by that simple thought with only one exception. When she was a young child, she witnessed the death of her entire family by a man cloaked in black. She too was injured by the murderer, but managed to survive her wounds. After countless years of investigation, she finally learned the name of the face which was burned into her mind. No matter what she did, Yuki would exact her revenge on her families killer...on Kanoth Loddoss.
Relevant skills: Yuki is an expert on defense manuevers, prefering to wear out her opponent rather than outright kill them.
Name (nickname): Thomas (Tom or T.J.)
Age: 18
Gender: Male
Bloodline: (angel or demon): Half angel, Half demon (Does not know)
Powers (if any): He can seem to be slowing down time. Even though he really isn't, he is just making his reaction rate faster (Can do it to the point where he can see a bullet coming at him). Also can take photographs with his mind. Both these powers exhaust his mind and if used for too long will wear out his mind until the point where he falls into a coma forever.
Appearance: He has brown hair. He is average sized and isn't muscular. He isn't very sanitary and has been wearing sweat pants and a Grey shirt for some time.
Bio/History with nephilim movement: He was abandoned as a baby. His parents would have been considered traitors so they gave up their son and went their separate ways. His parents did care about him though and left him at an orphanage. He grew up in the orphanage and managed to be graduate from high school at the age of 14. He went to college and when he was 16 he was walking around one day when he stopped by a gypsy one day and decided to have some fun and see his fortune. The gypsy was
actually a nephelim that had the ability to see into the past. Instead of telling Tom his future she told him his past. Although she wasn't able to tell which linage he came from it was enough to freak Tom out and make him run away from everything. For two years Tom has lived in the wilderness and it was a great experience for him. Now by chance he is going to the city where the Nephelim movement is to see what has changed since he fled from civilization.
Tom (preferred to be called T.J.) is actually lazy. He was only able to graduate from high school at such a young age because of his photographic memory. He's never cared about anything and a lot of things would bore him. The only time in his life when he felt he was having fun was when he was challenged. He has lived to find situations that seemed impossible to other people to overcome and because of this he uses advanced tactics.
Relevant Skills: Since Tom has had a photographic memory he has learned lots of things. He has learned several martial arts. His full potential isn't put to use though, since he is unmotivated and lazy. Deep down though he is willing to work hard to help save others.
Kanoth exited into the empty room after Tiffany, standing upright and looking around for any sign of someone else. They were alone, the only exit and entrance to the room was a set of glass doors leading into a hallway. Looking at Tiffany, he spoke in a hushed and serious tone.
"We should move with stealth from here on. We have the advantage of their chaos, but who knows how long that will last."
"Agreed, now lets start moving."
Kanoth nodded quietly and moved to the door, cracking it open and looking into the hallway. It was deserted, their footsteps echoing off of the concrete walls. After a few minutes of walking and a few wrong turns, they finally found what they had been looking for. Despite all of the hype set up by Bear, the entire portal seemed rather bland. There weren't any ellaborate security systems nor was the door even locked. Still, it was too quiet. Considering it was such an important portal for the Angels, there should be atleast someone guarding the room. Kanoth's thoughts were interrupted by Tiffany's voice.
"Well, this is going alot smoother than I would have imagined. Let me just take a couple of pictures and set up a few bugs and we can get out of here before things get any worse. Shouldn't take me that long, just make sure no one comes in."
"Understood. Yet doesn't it seem a bit odd. I mean, considering the value of this portal, shouldn't there atleast be someone guarding it?"
"Ehh, you have a point. But who cares, just makes our job that much easier."
Kanoth was about to say something in reply, but was interrupted by a third, new voice. Turning sharp on his heels, he looked around for it's source, but couldn't seem to locate it. It was definately a woman's voice though, and it surely wasn't Tiffany.
"Ahh, but I can't allow it to be that easy for you. I'm afraid that I'm going to have to ask you to put down your equipment and leave this place...now."
"Who's there," Tiffany inquired, looking around in the shadows.
"Who I am is of no concern to you. The only thing you should be concerned with is knowing that I am the guardian of this portal and I can't allow you to carry on with your plans. Mr. Adar wouldn't be too pleased if I just turned a blind eye. After all, he still has to pay me and I don't want to upset him until then."
It was now that Kanoth spoke up.
"Well, I suppose you haven't heard, but Adar's dead. Looks like you won't be getting paid in either case. So then there shouldn't be a problem allowing us to do our job here."
From the other side of the room, a woman exited the shadows. She was wearing white armor, a cape flowing behind her as she stepped. Kanoth's attention was directed to the two swords that she carried. Stopping a few feet from the two Nephilim, the red headed woman looked at him quietly, her eyes narrowing and studying him intensly. Before either Kanoth or Tiffany could react, the strange woman removed both of the weapons from their sheaths and faced Kanoth, a look of hatred enveloping her beautiful face.
"Kanoth Loddoss! That is who you are...correct?!"
Taking a step back, Kanoth looked at her with a quizzical gaze, raising an eyebrow out of confusion. Glancing over at Tiffany then back at the strange woman.
"Yes, that is who I am...Kanoth Loddoss. You seem to know who I am, yet I don't know who you are. Tell me, what is your name?"
"My name is Yuki Takeshi, but you can call me Okaeshi."
"Hmm...what an interesting name. The "Happy Warrior" also known as "Revenge." Tell me, why would you choose such a curious alias?"
Yuki's anger didn't seem to wither, but rather seemed to grow the more Kanoth spoke.
"You should know you bastard. It was 10 years ago when you killed my entire family!"
Kanoth reeled back in surprise, looking over at Tiffany then back at Okaeshi. After a few confusing moments a sly smirk played his lips as he removed his own sword, speaking up loud enough for Tiffany to hear him.
"Finish what you're doing and get back to base with that information. I have my own business to attend to. Something that I didn't manage to finish a long time ago."
Tiffany gave a curt nod and finished off the last bit of intelligence gathering before turning to leave. As she was about to exit the room, she was stopped by a tight grip. Turning quickly, she saw a familiar face. There standing before her was yet a second Yuki Takeshi. Confused, Tiffany only just managed to avoid a swift punch to her face by the doppleganger.
"Uhm...we could have a problem here Kanoth."
"What is it no-"
Kanoth didn't have time to finish his question, jumping backwards to avoid a deadly slash from his opponents swords. Steadying himself, Kanoth only grinned lightly to himself as he prepared himself for perhaps one of the best fights in a long time.
Yuki Takeshi...you shall indeed make this very interesting. Time to finish that which I didn't so long ago.
“I have no problem with you,” said Tiffany firmly. She wanted to talk her way out of this situation if she could. Her only weapon was a hidden hand gun, but it wouldn’t be easy to pull out with a pair of revenge thirsty twins in front of her. Yuki didn’t loosen her grip.
“I don’t care. You are associated with Kanoth, so you will die as well.”
“Leave her out of this,” said Kanoth. The three women stared at him, all of them surprised at what he had said. “I will fight the both of you. She does not need to be involved in this.”
“But she does, Kanoth. I can’t let your friends die when you killed my entire family.” Her voice was rising now. Yuki didn’t normally get like this, but with Kanoth in her sights she had a taste for blood. She would not let him escape alive.
“Then I suppose I’ll have to finish the job,” said Kanoth. At the end of that sentence, coinciding with the full stop of Kanoth’s voice, the whole room seemed to slow down, and everyone acted at once.
Tiffany saw Kanoth’s arm reach around and grip his katana. His forearm tightened, a tendon bulging. His wrist twisted and the sword came out of its sheath. She turned to look at their assailants, and saw that they had each started drawing their swords. The one that had held Tiffany let go, a mistake that should would regret for the rest of her short life.
Tiffany bent her knees and sprung off of her heels away from Yuki. In midair her hand went for the gun, nestled between her body and her coat. She had left it packed there, not expecting a fight. Her thumb pulled open the snap and her fingers wrapped around the handle.
Kanoth was now stepping backwards and crouching, lowering his center of gravity and assuming a defensive position. Yuki was being fueled by pure emotion, and it would be easier to tire her out than to try to attack her head on. If someone had told Yuki an hour before that she would be fought with her own tactic, she would have knocked the man unconscious for his stupidity. Now she didn’t even notice.
As Tiffany’s arm began to extend, holding the gun, she collided into a table behind her. She had forgotten about the desk, and it now sent her to the floor, but not before she slammed her head into an office chair. She landed in a heap on the floor, a bruise already forming across her ribs, her hair in her face, her head throbbing. She barely heard the first sounds of metal on metal as Kanoth took on both girls at once.
She cleared her mind enough to concentrate on the gun in her hand. When she looked across the room, she only saw white and black smears in a sea of gray. Black meant friend; white, enemy. She raised her arm, propping it up on her knee, and took aim. Slowly she squeezed off a single shot. A blur of red appeared on the white cloak of Yuki. She squeezed off a second shot. More red. More blood.
Then Yuki disappeared.
Tom was looking in the city. He says to himself sarcastically "Wow not much has changed... I was hoping they'd at least have flying cars."
He was wondering around at first from place to place and he noticed, he stank horribly. He didn't really mind, but he could do without the attention. He started to wonder down to less crowded areas, when he came across an alley. He was walking through it when he heard a strange noise then footsteps.
He said to himself, "Only two of them."
One of the strangers yelled, "Hey kid stop."
Tom yawned and said "Yeah?" at the same time.
The second guy said "Give us everything you got and we'll let you live."
Tom yawned again and thought aloud "Do I look like I have anything at all?"
The two man where starting to get mad at Tom and then they yelled "Damn Nephelim, takes us to the others like you and we won't kill you."
This surprised Tom he turned toward the two men. If Tom was an average kid he knew he would stand no chance against these two, but he wasn't.
He said "What do you mean 'others like me'?"
That was it. These two guys weren't in the mood to answer any questions. Tom saw they where taking weapons out what it was he didn't know. Then one of them held their hand right in front of him. It looked like he was reaching for Tom. The mans hand went on fire.
"Oh shit" Tom thought
"We don't need you alive!" The man who's hand was on fire yelled.
Then he cocked his hand back and threw the fireball straight at Tom. He made an attempt to dodge it and seemed to fail. Tom fail on the ground, his shirt burned in half. The demon who threw the fireball walked up to him, lifted his leg, but then noticed his flesh wasn't burned. Tom jumped up kicked the guys head into a wall, and knocked him out, or killed him. No time to really check.
The second man took out a gun now. Tom was now slowing down time. He saw a bullet leave the gun, stepped slightly to the left, and it missed. He charged him, punched the gun out of his hand, and kicked him in the chest. This one hit a wall then landed in a dumpster and the top landed on his head. Tom chuckled and said "I got that one right." He then collapsed and thought "Man my head hurts... need to be more careful." In the building next to him he could hear gunshots and metal clinging against metal. He looked through a window and saw some people fighting.
"Man, a lot has changed since I left... everybody wants to kill each other now."
A man in all black walks towards the Paradise portal in the distance. He is dressed in all black, holds a blood-stained knife in his left hand, and his white face holds a villainous smile. He sheaths the knife and brushes his black trenchcoat, and slips on his sunglasses, which show him Angels and Demons.
He walks up to the angels near the paradise portal and the guards put their swrods to his chest. The blue swords stop him short and his smile disappears. He speaks quickly, glancing around as he talks. I have to talk to the Angel King. I have his...information, and his....supplies.
The man opens up his bag. The guards look in and curse, muttering words of envy. Then, as if remembering themselves, stand to attention and salute him. The man frowns, wondering what is going on. An angel messenger appears out of the portal Sir, if you would come with me, the king would like to see you.
The man nods and follows him into the portal. In a room far away, a Nephlim curses and turns off his security camera.
Kanoth stopped suddenly as Tiffany opened up on Yuki, watching as the two forms regrouped and ran off injured. It wasn't anything vital but it would take her time to mend her wounds. Resheathing his sword, he straightened himself up and walked over to his comrade, smiling weakly and helping Tiffany to her feet.
"You have my thanks. You probably just saved my life back there."
"I don't know, you seemed to be holding your own quite well."
Kanoth smirked, a chuckle eminating from his throat. In all honesty that little fight had worn him out. Under normal circumstances he'd have been just fine. However Yuki was a very talented fighter, and it didn't help any that he had to fight off two of her. Having expended most of his energy to focus on his speed, Kanoth was fatigued, both physically and mentally, and he was wounded, though he kept that hidden quite well.
"In either case...I believe we should be...leaving here now."
Tiffany nodded and began to walk towards the doorway, Kanoth limping behind her. As she was about to open up the door, Kanoth collapsed to one knee, supporting his weight on his sword. He was too tired and his wound was causing to much blood loss for even his battle hardened body to handle. Rushing back to his side, Tiffany dropped down next to him and looked at Kanoth in the eyes.
"Kanoth!? Are you alright?"
Kanoth let out a weak chuckle, focusing straight ahead as he strained to form words in his mouth.
"It's nothing...really. Give me a couple of hours, and it'll...heal up just fine."
"No don't be. We need to get you out of here though, lest your injuries get worse. Now come on, we need to go."
Kanoth cockd his head slightly, looking over Tiffany's shoulder at the door. He could hear the sentries returning, and they would be there shortly. Sighing heavily, he grasped Tiffany's shoulder lightly, staring at her strong.
"Look, we don't really...have time for this. The guards...will be here shortly. You need to get out of here...and tell Bear everything."
"I-I'm not leaving you behind. We came as a team and we're leaving as a team."
Kanoth smirked lightly, admiring her tenacity and loyalty. As the steps grew closer, he struggled back up to his feet, withdrawing his katana from it's sheath. Tiffany followed suit and unholstered her pistol, reloading it and performing a weapon check to ensure that a round had been chambered. Out of instinct Kanoth stepped infront of Tiffany, shielding her body from anything that might come through the door. Keeping his focus on the door, he spoke to her in a weak yet confident tone.
"I'll strike first, since I have...to get close. You cover me...alright?"
"I understand. Don't push yourself to hard Kanoth, there's no point in being a hero. Besides, I haven't had the opportunity to actually speak with you yet."
Kanoth nodded lightly, smiling to himself at her words. He didn't intend to be a hero, and he too still wanted to have the opportunity to speak with her. As the enemy footsteps converged on the doorway, Kanoth's breathing became heavy. He didn't know if this was going to be his last moments on earth, but if it was meant for him to die, he was going to take as many of them as he could.
Ahhh, Paris. The life of luxury. The city of love. The creme de la creme. And the final piece of the puzzle that will open the Paradise Portal. After regathering themselves after the flight and treating themselves to some local wine and cheese, Anu and Matt started their quest to unlock the secrets of the Paradise Portal. Thanks to Matt's continuing efforts to decipher the tablet, he was able to calculate to exact coordinates, but was unsure of what they would find there.
"So, what are you looking up there?" Anu asked over Matt's shoulder as Matt typed away at the keyboard.
"Just the coordinates of our destiny (http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?ll=48.8583,2.2945&spn=0.008592,0.005932&t=k)." Matt replied with a smirk as he brought up google-map and punched in the coords that he had deciphered on the plane-ride. As he zoomed in, he couldn't help but think how cliche it was as he saw an "X" start to form on his screen-- that "X" being none other than the Eiffel Tower. "Time to put on your Hawaiin tourist shirt; we're going to the Eiffel Tower."
"Then let's do it," Anu replied as he spun his cane in his hand and headed for the door. They headed to the nearest metro (subway) station and boarded the first metro to the tower. As they approached the tower Anu commented under his breath, "Got enough gaurds around I'd say."
"Ever since 9-11 these governments aren't taking any chances with terrorists," answered Matt.
"No....no. It's more than that. There's demons here."
"How do you know?"
"I can smell 'em," Anu replied as he shifted his eyes around surveilling the scene. "Shhh, don't let 'em see your eyes," Anu whispered under his breath as he put his head down and continued to walk. Matt followed suite, and after they walked a few meters, Anu explained, "It's the gaurds, they're the Demons. Come on, let's get out of here before they see us."
As Anu and Matt walked away from the tower, Matt was already calculating their next move. On the ride on the metro over to the tower, Matt had noticed a tunnel that headed off in the exact direction of the Eiffel Tower. "Follow me," Matt reassured Anu, "we can take the tunnels. The zenith angle of the coordinates indicate that our target is below the surface." Matt, having already calculated the closest entry point to the tunnel he saw in the metro, led Anu to an indiscrete storm drain cover where they both dropped down into the city drainage tunnels.
As they walked through the tunnel towards the tower, Anu talked to Matt in a low whisper, "Whatever's down here, the Demons already know about, and they're protecting it with more firepower than I've seen in over a decade. And what's worse, is they're doing it in the open. We have obviously underestimated the Demons' control in this region considering they've already infiltrated the French government. How else could an all-Demon security detail be assigned to gaurd the tower? This is bad-- real fucking bad," Anu finished as they reached a hatch.
"Alright, this is it," Matt said calmly as he put one hand on the hatch, and the other on his concealed handgun. "You ready?"
"My destiny awaits," answered Anu as he gripped the hilt of his cane-concealed sword. Matt twisted the lever and pushed the hatch open. A soft light came from the other side as Anu and Matt ducked in...
A few days earlier
At Demon Outpost (the one we just destroyed)
A man in all black and holding a blood-stained knife walks down a hallway. He knows the tides of battle are turning, and he must reach the demons before it is too late. Already, he can here gunshots outside as the enemy closes in.
He quickly ascends the staris at the end and is met by two nasty-loooking guards. "Name?"
The man in black doesn't have time for this. "Listen, I must talk to..."
The demon repeats himself. "Name?"
The man, in one quick movement, stabs the persistent demon with his knife, and shoots the other twice with angel poison. The first demon falls to the ground, clutches his chest, then disappears. The second screams and melts.
The man continues to the portal beyond them. He walks steadily, but he can hear the sounds of the demon guards coming for him. As the first one rounds the corner, he shuts the door, sealing himself in with the porta;, and pulls from his pocket an Angel Manuscript.
He takes a breath and walks in through the portal.
Everything goes black.
The man is in a dream, or at least he thinks. Quickly, he focuses, knowing the consequences if he doesn't. He instantly is back as himself and walks towards the nearest demon.
"FREEZE!" the demon shouts as he sees him.
The man stops and holds the Manuscript up.
The demons eyes grow wide, and in them is reflected the blue light that shoots out in three directions fromt he Manuscript. All three guards guarding the area scream in unison and melt into red puddles.
The man calmly walks over what used to be their bodies and continued walking. Any opposition he met, he killed. No survivors.
Now, the man was at the King's chambers itself. He went up to the door, and was about to push it open when he heard a gun being reloaded.
He slowly turned to face a whole regiment of the devil's commandos, or Satin's Army (SA).
The lead one spoke up. "Drop the manuscript or you will be shot through the head three-hundred times over." He said it calmly with no fear.
The man smiled and dropped the manuscript, but not before absorbing its powers.
"I have come to bargin. You can have the manuscript, if I can have what I want."
"And what would that be?"
"Something only the king can give me."
"Oh?"
"Yes."
And with that, the man did two full front-flips into the air, aiming for an AC vent (bad joke I know). As he flew up, he blasted the demons,melting them.
He reached the vent and crawled through. Gunshots below accompanied him the whole way. Slowly, he emerged above the king. Stealthily, he dropped down on teh king, knocking him out. He then unsheathed his knife and sliced off the King's horns. As the door opened and the SA came, the man dissapeared, giving the most valued Angel possession for the most valued Demon possession.
The horns of the King would grow back, but it was a disgrace, and granted the Angels with many, mayn more powers.
Now, it was up to the Nephlim to get things right. When they found out.
::: Anu and Matt breaking into the heavily gaurded Demonic Eifell Complex :::
Anu followed closesly behind Matt as he ducked into the dimly lit room through the storm drain hatch. The light was coming from the hallway as the door to the room was left slightly ajar.
"Looks like some kind of storage room," Matt observed.
"Indeed. See if you can find anything useful. I'll gaurd the door."
As Matt rumaged through the files, Anu crouched behind the door with his hand on his hilt. Matt, in a low voice, filled Anu in on what he was finding, "It appears that this used to be an Angelic base, but the Demons over ran it almost a year ago. Not only that, but there is an Angelic Portal here...let's see...according to this diagram, the portal is located 2 floors below us, in subsection 7F.
Matt continued looking through the files and found exactly what he had been looking for, a full blown, unfractured copy of the Ancient Angelic Tablet. "This is it, I found..." Just as Matt was proclaiming his discovery, the door creaked open ever so softly as a Demon in a lab coat entered the storage room. His clipboard dropped, but not out of shock or surprise at finding Matt hunched over the filing cabinet. His whole body soon followed the clipboard, and hit the ground with a thud. Before Matt realized what had happened, Anu--in a single motion--had unsheathed his sword, sliced the demons neck, and resheathed his sword back into his cane without making a sound. By the time Matt turned around to see what was going on, Anu was already dragging the body deeper into the storage room and situated it behind some empty shipping crates.
"We better hurry before someone comes looking for him," Anu grunted as he shoved the body into the crevice.
"But I found it."
"Found what?"
"The missing pieces to your tablet....actually, it's a copy of the entire tablet, completely intact."
"How in the world do the demons have a full copy of the Ancient Angelic Tablet?!"
"Well, remember, this was an Angelic base before the demons took it over."
"Right, right. Well, you're going to need some time to decipher it, so let's get back to safety and figure out our next move," Anu said as he peaked out the doorway to see if anyone else was coming.
"Actually, I've already deciphered it. It says here that all the Angelic Portals are linked together through the Paradise Portal back in our hometown. Not only that, but it actually gives instructions on how to operate the Angelic Portals-- even the Paradise Portal. We've got to get this info back to Bear, and the fastest way back is 2 floors below, in Section 7F."
"Alright, grab all the documents that you can-- here use this bag," Anu directed.
Matt shoveled the papers into the bag and slung it over his shoulder, and pulled out his silenced pistol once again, "Alright, I'm ready."
Anu, who was standing gaurd at the door, gave the 'go ahead' motion, and announced, "All clear. I'll follow you. Go go go."
Matt and Anu bolted out of the storage room, both staying low and compact, Anu's sword almost dragging the ground behind him while Matt held his pistol out front. They made it to the stairs without incident, but as they exited the stairwell on sub-level 7, a God-awful noise peirced their ears. Someone had obviously found the trachea-impaired Demon, napping in the storage room, and sounded the intruder alarm. They didn't have much time now.
"Alright, we're almost there," Matt yelled to Anu over the sound of the siren, "Just around this corner and down the hall. They continued running towards section 7F, running past an elevator that had stopped two floors above them. Apparently, the Demons hadn't located the two Nephilim and were starting their search on the 5th floor, where they had found the dead Demon scientist.
Anu and Matt finally reached Section 7F, where the portal was located, but of course there was a locked door in their way, and they could hear footsteps coming down the hall, growing louder and louder with each passing second. "Any ideas," Anu questioned.
"Sure," Matt replied as he rasied his gun and aimed it at the computerized locking mechanism. He fired off two shots in rapid succession, "Alright, the magnetic locks are deactivated, we should be able to bust through now. On the count of three. 1, 2," bam the door flung open as both men kicked it with all their might.
The Demons already had a sophiscated computer system connected to the portal, but it didn't appear that they had figured out how to activate it yet. "Alright, do your thing," Anu said, pointing towards the computer console, "I'll hold off the demons." Matt sat down at the computer and started typing away as Anu shut the door they had just busted through, and stood with his back against the wall, next to the door, waiting for his next Demonic victim to walk through.
The door slung open, and Anu did his thing-- sliciing the would-be victim before he knew what hit him. But suprisingly, the Demon flung his entire upper body backwards, making his body parallel to the floor as Anu's Blade whisped above his face. As fast as the Demon had bent himself backwards, the Demon flung forwards, performing a leaping stabbing attack towards Anu. Surprised by the Demon's quickness, Anu was barley able to deflect his Katana before piercing his heart. The blade stabbed through Anu's favorite trench coat, slicing it all the way down. Luckily for Anu, this appeared to be the only demon who had found them as of yet. However, unluckily for Anu, he appeared to be quite outmatched by the quicker/younger Demon swordsman. Anu could barely keep track of where the Demon's katana was at any given moment, and was completely on the defensive, taking 1-2 steps back every time the Demon swung his sword. As the clinking and clanging of their blades continued, Eventually, Anu backed himself into a corner, and had nowhere to run. The Demon seemed to be setting Anu up for the kill, as he made multiple overhead attacks, driving Anu to his knees as he held his sword above his head in defense. However, the next swing of the Demon's blade was not an overhead swing. The Demon spun around, swinging his sword down low, right in line with Anu's abdomen. Anu saw this all unfolding in front of him, and it appeared to all be in slow motion, but still, it was too fast for Anu to adjust his sword into a deffensive position that could block the blow.
"Got it!" Matt yelled, as he squeezed off a single round from his silenced pistol, which sent the Demon spiraling to the floor mid-swing.
"You sure as hell did," Anu said gratefully as he held his hand over his heart, as if to stop it from pounding through his chest. Matt had shot the Demon in mid spin right between the eyes-- the precision and timing that must have taken seemed unreal to Anu, but all he could do was count his blessing as this was the closest he had ever come to dying.
"No, I mean the Portal. I got it. It's activated!" Matt proclaimed. A sucking sound filled the room as the center of the portal grew darker and darker until the concave blackness spread throughout the entirity of the portal, and just in time too. They heard the ding of the elevator from down the hall, and what seemed like an endless stream of Demonic footsteps headed in their direction.
"Well, let's do it," Anu directed as he stepped through the portal. Matt flung the duffel bag over his shoulder and followed Anu through the portal.
In an instant, Anu and Matt were transported half way around the world and emerged from the Paradise Portal.
"What the hell?!" Tiffany exclaimed, "What's that noise?!"
Kanoth, not moving from his position at the door, pointed to the Paradise Portal as a blackness enveloped it from the inside out.
Great, Tiff thought, just what we need, Angels coming from both sides! At that moment Anu and Matt came stumbling out of the blackness with a dumbfounded look on their face.
"What the..." chimed all four Nephilim in unison. Matt and Anu surveying the blood stained room where the Paradise Portal was located noticed Tiffany and Kanoth were in an defensive position around the door, and could hear the familiar sound of footsteps approaching. As the footsteps reached the door, they fell silent and Kanoth whispered in a gravelly voice towards Anu and Matt, "Ahh, just in time for the party."
‘I think we’re being followed.’
‘Guh?’ Tank jerked out of his half doze.
‘I said we’re being followed. Blue Ford Retro Bird.’ Crazy replied as he continued driving. Tank glanced at his side view mirror. The blue car drove several meters behind them, its dark tinted mirrors revealing nothing about its occupants.
‘You sure?’
‘It’s been following us for the past 20 minutes.’
Tank twisted around in his seat and stared back at the rest of the team. In the small coach, most of them slouched in their seats, dozing as he did before.
