How does the Machine determine which threads are to be marked "read" and which to be marked "unread"? For example, right now NONE of the Warcraft threads are marked "unread" for me, even though I have NEVER been in those forums. Also, sometimes I went thru all my subscribed threads in User CP and read them all, but sometimes when I go back to User CP they are all marked "unread" again.

Is there an explanation to this or is it just quirky.?

Every time you log on, it marks all new posts since your last visit "unread". :)

Hmmm... actually I think it's more along the lines of two things:

1. The WarBoards.org database remembers when you last logged on
2. A cookie on your computer remembers what you've read since you logged on this session

vBulletin wanted to save space I believe, so they did it that way. Quite smart isn't it?

Ok, well does it just "know" that I don't ever read the Warcraft threads, so it stops making them blue?

Nah, it all goes on timing. It assumes that you've read every post made before your last session.

periodically im sure cookies get cleared out thus making you 'read' all the threads.

Yeah, those cookies are session cookies, which means they are never written to disk. As soon as your browser dies, so do those cookies.

Some things you can do with them, no idea if it's fixed in vB3.0.0:

~ Delete cookies during session without closing browser so all threads are marked as unread from the start of your session
~ Crash your browser for the same effect
