Diablo III is one of those games that most people assume has to be in development, but has still yet to be announced. Now, several Blizzard and Diablo fan sites have hosted an online chat interview with Diablo novelization author Richard A. Knaak containing numerous tidbits suggesting that a third main game in Blizzard's acclaimed hack and slash RPG series is on the way. Some choice quotes:

Q - Medievaldragon: How much of the book is creation of yours, and how involved is Chris Metzen behind the canon storyline of Diablo: The Sin War Trilogy? Do you think the ramifications of this book impact in the storyline of Diablo 3 the game?
A - Knaak: This is a pure collaboration between myself and Chris/Blizzard. All that is written is passed by him and the others there. This will be canon and has adjusted earlier info. The ramifications here will be used for any future project...and I ain't writing for a dead game.

Q - Deathshade|EU: So... Diablo 3?
A - Knaak: I am not writing for a dead world...but a world with dead. nuff said

Shacknews can confirm these implications, based on information from multiple reliable industry sources close to Blizzard. Diablo III is indeed in the works.

I love Diablo so I can't wait. Sorry to those who were wanting Starcraft :(

I'm not sure the word "timetable" even means anything to Blizzard anyway.

Lol you think Blizzard gets tired of being insulted for its timeing? :p...

I wonder if they consider if people forget the games they design when they make the next version :p...

Gotta make it in time to be remembered :p...

Diablo 2 is not forgotten, so I doubt it will be an issue that Blizzard will consider.

considering the activity it gets?... i guess it's mostly active online :/... And with modders... and hackers... and anything else of that sort :/... yea alot of attention...

i mean.. I did't check out the 1st diablo because it seemed so lame :/... this one I think might end up like that compaired to the new one... just because of sheer time needed to get so far :/... meh... Nvm...

Im excited, What im wondering is will it be a compeltely different styled game, or the same graphics with different chars, story, etc.

TSOShadow
10-27-2006, 9:49 AM
Probably new stuff... in 3-D graphics... although companies are starting to create PC games with to high requirements :/...

Either that or people are getting better stuff then I am :/... wonder where they get it all from... (Other then custom design...)

Hmm interesting. I would imagine it would be more graphics intensive and giving the trend more mmorpg (however that acronym goes) like wow guild wars etc. But I would still play it if they just did more of a revision of the second one like they did with LOD. should be something to look for though.;

Would be intresting if they were saving the new Starcraft and Diablo to actually surpass WoW for MMO gaming :D...

Wishful thinking :/...

Been saying it for awhile now =P

Though I dislike the thought of a fully 3d wow-wannabe type game =/

Oh well.

my main concerns are that, with the loss of so many diablo team members, will it still "feel" like diablo? I dont want it to be like a warcraft modded to diablo or something... you know? =/

As they haven't even announced Diablo 3, you'll probably have plenty of time to upgrade your computer.

i dont know about you guys but that quote was bull...Diablo 3 will never be made Bill Roper from FSS owns the Diablo rights to it. The only way it can made is that Blizz will bribe Roper for money to create a piece of (parden my french) CRAP!

Neo

uhm diablo is owned by blizzard, =P

has been ever since the aquired uhm blizzard north, or whatever it was called... i think?

anyways the trademark and stuff is blizzards.

but the creators, the master minds are from FSS they own the rights as well

Do you have proof? Because I'm pretty sure that Blizzard, the company, actually owns the trademark of Diablo and/or any patent-type-thingers related to it. Roper may have been the head guy at blizzard north, but that doesn't mean he gets to keep the diablo universe -- which is obvious.

Since if blizzard didn't own diablo anymore, they wouldn't be able to it up on battle.net or whatever. >.>

I think you are trippin' =P

well all i know is that they need Roper and his team to make diablo better then what it is right now if blizz makes it, its gonna miss the creative aspects of the game

Dayoh

Even if all of Blizzard North is gone, i don't think it will make too much difference with "Blizzard" making D3 (if they do), look how popular WoW is, i have a feeling D3 will prolly be like WoW, (seeing as though heaps of WoW is taken Diablo stuff). Blizzard will still do a good job.

However way it turns out if they make they game like they did with D2 and LoD it will turn out really good, so stop bitching about "ONE" man.

Neo

To be fair, the team who did Diablo II and LoD was blizzard north... there is almost no one left from that team who still work for blizzard... So whatever Diablo we do see, is going to be a lot different from the current one.

Regardless of what Diablo 3 is going to be, I'm still gonna do Normal in four days with a new char every summer, without skipping any quest or area. Than powerlevel a char to level 20 get bored and not play Diablo till next year.

Who's with me!? :P

Sounds completely pre-digested to me. Who told you this anyway- your best friend's older brother?

While I don't know how reliable the information posted here is (as I have never read anything from this person before) it all could very easily be true as it does seem plausible.
