Firstly SC is a great game. Having just got it two months ago for a 9 year old game I think it is quite possibly the best I ever played. There are obviously improvements that can be done, fisrt of all if 3D'ism. That is no problem and think it can easily be done.
Game play and story. There are a lot of aspects on which game play can be improved, all of which I am certain Blizzard can easily handle. For the story... well I think they would have to do some thinking there. But sure it can be done with a little creative thinking.

Where I fail to see SCII being another big hit is the 'politics' of Blizzard has changed over the years. I do not think Blizzard will allow player made campains or for that matter even include a editor of some sort. The biggest aspect of now is to amass money. What made SC IMHO a hit was not in addition to the gameplay/storyline was players can create thier own campains, even now with SCII unannounced Blizzard is not even giving people proper tools for UMS or supporting it for that matter (see multiple threads all over the net and this site). The reason being is simple, Blizzard does not make money off of them. There is no reason for them to support it.
I fail to see how that would change with a possible announcement/launch of SCII. Not only do I not see them allowing people to make campains, but will not make a editor even possible. They are in it to line thier pockets. These editors while may increase sales of the game to some extent creates a 'burden' in thier wallet as they need to support something they did not even make.

Anyways... my thoughts. I hope thier is a SCII game, but the only way I see it holding place is keeping the game as open as it is now if not opening it up more. It would be a major untertaking for the hierachy of Blizzard to allow such a thing to take place.

Actually, I think that a campaign editor would draw more people into it and thus Blizzard would make more money. The more neat features a game has, the more people will want to buy it, and it won't be too much trouble to add the campaign editor on the game because they already have to have it to make the campaign and preset multiplayer maps.

Ya, blizz is becoming jerks now. What with all the new warcraft art and shit for the trading card game... they said that it'd give it a "fresh" look to the warcraft game. Feels more like a fresh layer of skin... after having the previous layer brutally and painfully ripped off.

That obviously will roll over into starcraft. I mean they even had the voice of thrall for a captain in Ghost.

It all adds up. Trust me.

If you havn't notice, the majority of games or if not all games that include a campaign editor also doesn't support them. The reason, true, they don't wan't to wast their time or money trieng to help everyone on their world editor, they are more focused on the game itself. It does not mean they won't include them to their games, they will. I think they're smart. They know that map making communites would help themselves on those. So the company doesn't need to support it. Anyways, also, world editors is what help keeps the game longer, if you also havn't noticed. You do not see many Blizzard maps being played any more right? You don't, which rest my case. If they didn't have a world editor, people will get tired of the same old maps and quit.

Games need world editors used by players to help keep their games live longer, which is more beneficial to the company.

Ya, they're smart because they have business guys that sit down at a table and discuss ideas in a meeting.

Not to mention these are all mature adults, but they can still make mistakes. =P

You mean "skepticism," right?

A comment like that leaves me to almost think that you, sir, only recently came out of a serious depression. >_>

Hopefully, that IS the case considering ppl come to this forum as a way of submitting their prayers to almighty GOD that SC2 will, in fact, come out. =P

Blizzard expressly disclaims any warranty for the Program, Editor and Manual(s). The Program, Editor and Manual(s) are provided "as is" without warranty of any kind

In other words it states that they do not support the editor in starcraft now anyways. Thus they probably wouldn't support it in SC2. That's why forums like these are around. So people can answer other people with questions.

Well, I only got into SC abouot ~2 months ago. Great game and I love it. I also realized it age and put on my thinking cap of why a sequel was not made. There is no technical aspect of why it was not made. Putting a game out is (not by me) easy as perverbial pie.

The reason I think SCII was not made/announced is Blizzard knows that the success of SC primarily has to do with player made map creation and thus continuing to buy the game. I suspect Blizzard wants to tap into that... but I do not see how they can, which also supports why the game has not been made/announced.

If anything I think SCII will be released in time. But it would more then likely be a poor successor to the original... at least in my opinion for the fact that they have not thought of a way to milk the cow.

If they don't make it with a map editor, I will bomb Blizzard.
Or wait for someone to make one. :D

My friend got his StarCraft 3 month ago, and he is angry because if Sc2 comes out, there will be less sc original on battle.net thus having poor full houses in gaming.

Well speaking from a competitive player's standpoint UMS was not what made SC "addicting" but the fact that SC is the best balanced RTS out there. It created the first real Gaming Sport (S.Korea) There is no reason Blizzard would not continue to support UMS and custom maps/campaigns. They were able to do that before their big cash cow WoW.

I do have some slight skepticism, however its in how to re-create that same feeling that the original one had. Never the less once it gets announced I'll be one of the first get pre-order it :)
