Last summer I watched nearly the entire Trigun series (I might have missed a few shows).
The summer before that I watched nearly the entire series of Outlaw Star.
Both were very good and I wish they'd come out with another series for both.
Wonder what anime I'll watch this summer ;)
Btw, Adult Swim = R0xx0rZ

The most memorable one for me is definitely Super Dimension Fortress Macross/Robotech's Macross Saga. It's quite obvious, really... I just wish I had some extra money for the DVD's.
My favorite series, though, is Mobile Battleship Nadesico with Azumanga Daioh as a close second. But Macross is still up there. I also like Inuyasha (I have episodes 1-146 on my harddrive - over 24GB).

The Macross Saga of Robotech was the first 36 (and best) episodes of the series.

My friend is an Inuyasha lover and has been trying to download all those via his crappy 56K connection... haha he'd freak if he knew you had all those.

Rurouni Kenshin (especially the Kyoto arc) is and always will be my favorite anime.

I don't claim to be well-versed in anime, however I have seen several of the shows that have been broadcast in America, with the exception of some of the older ones (Robotech for example...although I'd like to buy the DVDs).
I'd say that the most memorable...
Mobile Suit Gundam. What else can I say. Its just beautiful. None of the over-dramatized scenarios of GundamWing, a great story, and great animation (for the time period). While some of the spinoff series were less than great as far as production quality (0080 and 0083 never really appealed to me), others, such as 08th MS Team and the movie Char's Counterattack fit perfectly into the original Gundam world and keep the gritty realism of the first without becoming overly concerned with newer, bigger, faster mobile suits. I'd say that the thing I like most about this series is the character development.
A more recent great is Cowboy Bebop. Good animation and some crazy stunts give it a plus, although I must admit that it is often quite unrealistic. However, the randomness of many of the episodes keeps it fresh. Of course, some viewers dislike a show where only around three of twenty-six episodes deal with the main plot. But I think it's wonderful. And the movie is a gem of an action movie.
Of course, there are other good series in America, and a large number of good movies have been released here as well. However, I haven't gotten much into the movies so far, although I'd really love to do so. As for series, I'll admit that I loved Dragonball, but subsequent series such as Z and GT have greatly annoyed me by the outlandishness of their plots and lack of character development. Trigun was good. And its nice to actually have an anime I can remember when it debuted. :p
Well, I could continue on to another little obsession of mine, Hamtaro, but I fear that would be a bit too much for some of you.

I think the only anime I have ever watched was Dragonball, and that was a long time ago. I'm not really an anime fan.

The first anime I ever watched was Ninja Scroll, but it's memorable for all the wrong reasons. The first one I truly liked was Mobile Suit Gundam Wing. I'm currently trying to watch bits of Outlaw Star, Trigun and Cowboy Bebop when I can. Not having any money or cable makes this rather difficult since I have to rely on friends for my anime needs.

3 good animes. I got into Cowboy Bebop around the end of the summer but then school started and I couldnt watch any more (too late). Maybe this summer ill see most/all of the series. Outlaw Star has an AWESOME ending, and thats pretty much all I remember about it (two summers ago, what do you want). Trigun is good; each battle against the Gung-Ho Guns is unique and the final one against Legato is good too. Vash's character is a complex one, but its good all around.

I loved the robotech series. The 1st and 2nd are really cool, the 3rd isn't all that interesting.
I like Bubblegum Crisis but it scares me. Female warrirs in armour defending humanity from robotish boomers?
Oh yah don't forget Sailor Moon ^^

My favourite animes would have to be the original Robotech series (macross) and Cowboy Bebop. Both of those just stuck in my head for some reason. The most memorable anime movie i've seen is Vampire Hunter D. It was kinda strange but well done, with some cool concepts. Wondering if X-Men counts as anime, cos i used to love that series.
By the way, if anyone says Pokemon i will shoot them.
