- Be a model forum member
- Move out of place threads
- Close or deal with threads that have gone off-topic
- Deal with members who aren't behaving
- Clean up mis-posts, double-posts, etc.

That's a more broad definition.

Can you evolve into a moderator.
Not because that I want to become one.

But Is there a such possiblilty?

You can be promoted to Moderator status at some point, yes.
However we don't need any -- and we don't foresee any need for new moderators.

Why not? There is only 1 regularly active moderator for the General Forums. I mean, sure DC is on sometimes, but I'm on like everyday! (Will I get banned for posting this?)

EDIT: OboeGuru hasen't been on lately eather:(

I would say that we're here to assist the realisation of the dreams that the administrators have. That sounds a little cooler than just simply closing threads, editing posts, and everything else.

The dreams I'm talking about is the dreams of the forums, not other dreams... urrggghh

Edit: The member's lounge is covered quite well I might add.

May I just add a little point here:

Generally, the higher the member count goes, the more moderators are needed.

Oboe is busy with AP Exams, and so is Fengy. It usually gets like that during these times (end of school year = exams :( ). The forum will be back alive come the summer, then you will see there are plenty of active staff.

Summers on forums are absolutly great. Tis when I joined BF and unknowingly became addicted to it, and posted 1000 posts (really, i dont remember being that active, but oh well ;P). Hope the same with WB; new members, lots of posts, etc..

Yeah I'm so excited. Summer forums is the best. Everything changes and losts of fun posts and pool parties and funny threads. It is the best time of the year for forum-watching. ;)

PS. AP Exams ended last week. Although there are still final exams..

I'd like to note that whining about the activity of the staff is not the best way to get on my good side.
And things are covered quite well, as you may or may not understand.

Why not?
Modification of the Moderator user group this week changes things.

Modding the Mod group? Wow, that sounds so weird coming out. :/

Then we could have a moderator previewing the moderator's posts in the post queue. :P

Moderators are generally seen as janitors, though they are far from being just cleaners of the forum. But to me it's just another colour on your name and little boxes on the bottom of your screen.

And I start anti-moderator rallies. Who wants to join the next one?

I remember you doing that anti-moderator rally at a site that you were a moderator, right? :)

Volume is a big thing to consider when deciding how to moderate, personally were doing fine by my standards on moderation, hardly any closed threads, few moved threads and low warnings at the moment, Senior Moderators also help out with all threads when it comes to moderation, seems we have enough moderators for each time period to keep a hold of things.

Haha no, but most of us are in different time zones.

There's a moderator in Australia, a moderator who is here during late night postings, a moderator early on in the west coast, and others spread abroad.

So now we usually have someone from the staff who is on at all times of the day. ;)

Wellllllllllll, not really. Now if you had someone on all the time <HINT HINT> You'd have the ideal mod. :P

I once remembered a user under the name of "Carnage" <hint hint> at another forum who has done a good job of Moderating the forums, but then resigned because he didn't like having to clean up everyone else's mess. ;)

Well as of right now, the need for additional Moderators is n/a at the moment, since all of the mods have a limited amount of power in all of the forums.

I had to take a couple month unplanned hiatus from the forums because of major comp problems. Right now, I have my comp working but with limited abilities. Once I get the rest of the bugs straightened out, then everything should be back to normal. I'll still be able to logon to WB and hopefully post on a daily basis, but the screens load up as if I am running on dialup. (part of the bugs that I'll need to fix)

Unfortunately, as for those of you who have contacted me via IM (dunchy, Shini, Carnage, ect.) through MSN or what have you, then I am afraid that I no longer have a Hotmail account. You can delete my old username off of your buddy list and I'll send you a PM or email with IM provider and username sometime in the future.

Whenever you have a new MSN, tell me. That's my primary messanger. Oh, and personally, I feel the mod staff is perfect right now as well. And yes, I will admit in front of everyone, and feel free to quote this: I'd love to be a mod. I suck up all the time. You all know it. But I still am myself on the forums. Besides, I try and report posts when needed, and such. If I were a mod, I could help, but then again, so could every member on the forum. Truth be told, not everyone can be a mod. All of us won't be a mod someday. There has to be members. So with that said, I just say this: I know about 50% of you probably want to be a mod. And don't deny it. And please, if you don't want to be a mod, don't post here just because you want to prove me wrong. There are a few I can see not wanting to be a mod, but the forums that I ran back a while ago, I feel I had either too much or too little power. I've roamed BF and WB now for about 9 months. This has shown me the best way to mod. Now I feel as if I could mod well, but that only comes if someone wishes to make me one. Until then, I just report posts. I hope you all understand that.

But to get back to the major point: Our mod squad is fine. Let them be, and leave it at that.

P.S. Allow me to rephrase that name...

Being a part of the staff for any particular community isn't always fun and games, especially in a fairly large community. It can get pretty stressful when you are the only staff member online and the forums are going to hell in a handbag real fast. It isn't like you can just close the threads and then expect everything to be settled. Even banning people may not be the best answer to resolve certain situations.

Edit:To be quite honest with everyone, I never really wanted to be a moderator till I was asked by TheHeadRoach if I wanted to be one a little over two years ago.

SexForTwo

There's too much prejudice between moderators and users at larger forums. To problematic users, moderators are stupid and to moderators, problematic users are stupid. It's the circle of hatred. :D

First time I became moderator at BattleForums the first thing I wanted to do was mess up the whole of Chit-Chat because I was promoted even though I didn't want to become one. I wanted to put an infinite loop in the Announcement title that kept returning alert boxes so even the Mod CP couldn't fix it - only chrisuk could, and he is on, like, once a month. :D But then again, it was nice to become one, and I enjoyed helping. 'course, AxL and Theroy were about 10x better than me but still.....

@dunchy: There goes my anticipated anti-mod rally. :(
