View Full Version : Advice on what to do better

I'm back with another rep on what I can do to play better. I've been playing all races lately, and I think my best is P. I seem to win the most/last the longest with them, anyways.
So, while I know I'm nowhere near perfect in any one thing, I think I've improved a bit in everything. Here's the rep. It's me versus Sharp-Edge. Near the end of the replay we just talked about how I could of improved a bit, so don't mind the lull of action there.
P.S. I know very little about how to play P, because most of the things on WB are defending against them or about zerg. Any advice on strats, technique, or just overall play is welcome.

Ok, I haven't watched the replay yet. I just opened it up in BWChart, and I noticed a few things.
-Normally I don't talk about APM, but when it's only 54, it's a clear sign that you're not doing everything that needs to be done.
-Your build order was bad for vsing Terran. You don't need 2 gateways right off the bat. Do this build vs. terran-- pylon, gateway, assimilator, cy-core, pylon, and from this point your build can deviate depending on what you want to do. I'm not going to go into it because there are just too many options and I'm lazy.
-Your first units should be dragoons, not zealots. This goes hand in hand with using the proper opening build.
-Overall, you wasted money on a lot of upgrades you didn't need, and probably didn't even use, while not upgrading the most important things (i.e. you only had 1 upgrade on armor and 1 on shields). A lot of times, it's better to use that money on building more gateways or making another expo instead of getting upgrades that won't be useful (much less even used). I noticed you only had 5 gateways, which is not nearly enough for a game that lasts ~30 minutes. Your opponent had 9 factories. As toss, you must have more gateways than he has factories if you want to win. If you only have half the amount like this game, it is impossible to win.
-I noticed you got psi storm upgrade rather early. Did you put it to use? As in, did you drop high templars on his workers and storm them? A good method to do this is to take 3 ht's with 1 zealot in a shuttle. Drop the zealot first to draw any fire then drop the hts to storm the workers.
-Always hotkey your offensive force. I like to hotkey my shuttles as well.
-Your unit ratio of dragoons:zealots was way off. You built more than twice as many zealots as goons, but your opponent built twice as many vultures as tanks. The more vultures he makes, the more goons you should make.
Wow, I've never analyzed a replay thru BWChart, but it seemed to work quite well. Anyway, here's a fairly by-the-book PvT I played the other day. It's not the greatest or anything, and I make my fair share of mistakes, but it shows some of the basics that I'm talking about here.

Ehem.
In fact, I did notice it. Just... wasn't sure. XD
The cold is getting to me.
Ok, thanks Chronic... I don't have the program that lets me see my APM, so I can't be a good judge of it. I'm getting PP soon enough though.

What does BWCHart do? Hopw do you use it? Does it give some kind of statistics from the game? Since you could see his BO, without watching the actual replay...

BWChart associates itself with .rep filetypes. So you just double click on a replay and it opens it in BWChart. It analyzes basically all aspects of a replay including, build orders, APM, resources gathered, unit distribution, action distribution, building distribution, upgrades, APM distribution, and hotkeys, and it does it throughout the duration of the game.
For instance here's a screenshot of the hotkeys in a pro game compared to the hotkeys of black abyss's game.

Cooooooooool..... And where do i get this wonderful program?
Is it included in PP? Or completely separate?
...and Mr Abyss has a little work cut out for him...2 hotkeys?? That's even lower than me!
(OF course, I've advanced a little, and now use 1,2,3,4,5 and 8,9,0...I've still to start using F2 and F3 though)
