They're still in testing..and then they'll have the open beta for about a month (hopefully)....scheduled release is not specified other than second half of the year 2004.....so i'd say you've got around 4 to 5 months to wait (give or take a month) ..a rough estimate..

Of course blizzard have been known to push back release dates..hope that doesn't happen here ..but they are perfectionists ;)

There's no release date for the game anywhere yet. I would expect a launch in the United States sometime around September-October.
Whether or not they will launch worldwide then (and I don't think they will) remains to be seen.
RedCloak has it quite right, considering they've yet to open up the beta internationally, I doubt we'd see a simultaneous release for both U.S. and Internationally.

But i suppose they wouldn't have too much of a gap between the two releases.....it looks like GW is for the sameish schedule that blizz is on except they have just had international alpha testing..so if GW release internationally sooner than WoW it would be a detrimental to WoW international sales ..at least in the short run...

That is true, since they're each other's worst competition.
I would be inclined to say that the release of World of WarCraft would be worldwide. If it's not, wouldn't we be missing out on important bits in the story or things like that?

I would imagine the people that were really in need of storyline would be able to visit fansites and read up on what has happened thus far. I have my doubts that Blizz will make an international release, considering they still have a lot of server stress testing to do beforehand in various locations.
On a side note, a guildmate of mine found this little snippet a wee bit ago, concerning the WoW beta in Europe ^_^:
We've been pressing and probing for nuggets of new info and we found out this morning that Blizzard have now shipped the Beta servers to Vivendi in Paris. So what does this mean? Well we have been told that the European Beta will be rolling out this summer, sometime around August. The European comunity and GM team is also now being assembled which means things are really moving along. Great news indeed for European fans.

But how much of a gap they keep between the US and the international release would depend on the fact whether blizzard is relying solely on its fanbase (which is huge i know and I'm a part of it) to up the sales for WoW international or would it also cater to the general MMORPGer

Perhaps they will have an international release, but australians will have to connect to US servers. That's pretty much the same situation were stuck in at the moment, all the MMORPGs I have played are stationed in other countries. And I play StarCraft on USWest, so perhaps they will do a worldwide release, just some countries will get laggy connections.
