View Full Version : Replacing hotkeys

Yesterday I played a 2v2 game.
My ally, in the beginning of the game, said that he had just rearranged his hotkeys. For this he used two programs...one was WinMPQ (I think, could be wrong). The other one I don't remember.
Anyone know anything more about this? There are some hotkeys I wouldn't mind having in another place...
(Like "M" for marine, "I" for mine and irradiate, and "L" for liftoff, "O" for siege....they're just a little too far away for my left hand to be comfortable with it...)

I have no idea who I played with, but the nick you mentioned does not sound familiar. He wasn't too good though...(not that I should say anything, since my performance in that game was sub par)
Anyway, thanks for the link!

ahh no, it wasn't h0ez then :P but that's ironic cuz just a few days ago we were searchin for that link for him..
Be aware that it may be considered "cheating" kinda like a map hack in that you're using a 3rd party program to get an advantage.. there's some debate.. kind of a gray area i guess :P

Well, it's still an advantage available to anyone (who knows of it).
And other people might play differently anyway.
Keys not easily reachable by the left hand could be used with the right hand. I just don't feel comfortable letting go of the mouse too much. Others may. Does that mean they cheat?
I wouldn't call this getting an advantage as much as getting rid of a disadvantage.
just do was boxer does. Keep one keyboard for typing and then another with all the keys but the short keys for your race removed. Make it impossible to miss the keys. Of course since I play all the races I would have four keyboards in front of me and that would just be ridiculous.

Unfortunately, the availability or reasoning behind it don't always matter. Take the Diablo II maphack, for instance. Most everyone uses it nowadays and it's available to everyone, but it is still against the rules/policies as it's a third party program that modifies the mechanics of the game. Until Blizzard officially backs something, if it's third party, it's pretty much considered illegal. I'd say the upshot is that, even if it doesn't get you banned, someone could still use it against you by saying you "cheated" via a third-party program. The thing is, their claim would probably be legitimate. I'd say it would be safe for casual play, but not necessarily for ladders/tournaments.
On another note, I wonder if Boxer auctioned off his keyboard or something now that he's gone? I bet he could make some nice money off something like that :P

Isn't he? I heard he had to go into the army as part of some sort of requirement they have in Korea. Something about requiring two years of service if you're male and of a certain age o.O. I dunno -when- precisely this was supposed to be, but I haven't seen him listed on the tournaments or anything. I suppose I could google it right quick...
Ah, found it:

If they could control army like starcraft units the other army would be dead as soon as boxer touched the controls.

I think it's safe to say that, if that were the case, Korea would maintain world dominancy for...well...until they collapsed from the inside like every other world superpower has.

There used to be a program called KeyCraft that allowed you to change every non-universal hotkey (for instance, you couldn't change "a" for attack cause that's a universal hotkey), but it only worked for one patch....I think 1.11. Unfortunately noone ever updated it and then when next patch came out it switched my hotkeys back to the default.
At first I tried switching dozens of hotkeys but that really confused me, so I went back to the default and just switched one at a time. Once I got used to that hotkey, I'd change another. The only ones I can remember changing and actually liking the change were "P" for scan cause it's closer to "9" and "0" which is what I hotkey my scanner on, and I changed lay mines and seige mode to "d" because I usually hotkey my troops starting at 1.
