View Full Version : Is there a way to extract the original campagins from the game?

Hey im new here


I wanted to know if there is a way to extract the original campagins of StarCraft Brood War, so you would be able to edit them in StarEdit? I remember that some guy has made a thread about it, but I dont remember where it is. Could someone help me? I will really appreciate it :)


Oh also, Ive download HunCraft, and its in Hungarian(Sadly), so I wanted to know if I can extract the campagins from there too, so I will be able to translate it and enjoy it better. Thanks in advance.

To extract the campaign maps you'll need to use WinMPQ (http://www.starcraft.org/downloads/CustomsDownloads/Beginners/WinMPQ%201.62) with UED77s listfile (http://www.warboards.org/attachment.php?attachmentid=4751&d=1155901493)and open up install.exe (on the starcraft disc) with it. The maps are under the "chk" format which is just the root format of the scm/scx so you can open the maps in staredit.

Same thing goes for that mod HunCraft (Its a mod right?). Open the <mod>.EXE with WinMPQ and extract the files you want.

On a second thought the mod might have a modified stat_txt.tbl (or what its called) which contains the language part :/ and modyfying that will shure take long.. oh wait a sec.. you can just delete it :D sorry if I confuse you.

Another question: Does anyone know where I can get a program that let you put a special effects to the voices like the Starcraft voices have? It has some kind of a aura for the Protoss, and I also need an infested voice effect, does anyone know this kind of a program?

Hmm not very shure on the sound editing side but I think Sound Forge is a reputable sound editing program.. and there are allways these big professional programs for all kinds of sound editing... :concern:

Well, I can do a voice of a Ceberate very well, and Duran's voice too. I just need the infested effect to the voices. The Protoss voices are easy I believe, I just need to add the echo effect to it and you get a protoss voice :)

Almost all sound programs have an echo feature, try Audacity

It definitely is!
When I realized it is possible to do it, I decided to do it too. So I bought a microphone and started to record. I made one map so that my voice acted all characters. The result was terrible. After that I have settled for just text-form lines.

It is great if someone is able to make decent voices, and can act well enough to do own voices for maps.

I'm not really MAKING the campagin, I'm only translating it with my own voices and my friends. HunCraft is the continuation of Brood War, and it has new cinametics and new units. Unfortunately, the only version of it is in Hungarian, thats why me and a couple of friends will translate the whole game.

Just for future reference... a tut' which shows how to extract maps from the game (http://www.stormcoast-fortress.net/cntt/tutorials/extracting/). :)

And also a better reference file list for WinMPQ (http://www.zezula.net/download/listfiles.zip) than UED's one (read, has less unkowns). No resents, man... as I already know you do not.
I can clearly say that I miss 'nagging' ya, that's for sure. ;)
