View Full Version : Reported Posts
Does the staff forum still have the automated postings of reported threads/posts? I'm just curious since I don't know if I'm spinning my wheels when I try to communicate via the reported post function. I don't intend to be critical, but the response from moderators on reported posts is not very expeditious.
Should I (we) use an alternate method? Or would you prefer that the reported post function be used at all?

That being my same question. I have used the function many times to report the thread getting out of hand and wondering if anyone reads it at all? sometimes they get axed imediatly... sometimes not.

When you report a post a thread is created in a section of the staff room concerning that report. I think this is the same as it was when you were a mod. Reporting is definitely the best way to let us know about a bad post as it allows all of the staff to see it. All of the staff have global mod powers now so anyone can respond to any report if necessary.
If the report is from a more specialized forum it may take longer for someone to respond. Often I leave reports from the SC/WC forums because I don't know what to do with them or I'll leave them for their specific mod. Other times someone will read a report and decide that no action is necessary.

That's right. Keep in mind that just because a post is reported does not necessarily mean that action will be taken. It is at the discretion of the staff. Currently there aren't any reported posts that have not been looked at yet.
Most of my reported threads are blatant violations such as gold advertisements or wrong forum type issues. I rarely report a post if I'm not certain that it merits some attention.
My concern stems from times where some rather atrocious posts remain untouched for a day or more. Again, no criticism intended, just an observation. I will continue to use the report post function so long as someone is reading them.

It helps sometimes if people put something in the "Reason" box besides "sucks" or whatever. It's a pain in the ass to have to chase through all these threads and links to try to find the post, its context, and figure out whether or not someone is doing something that's more of a response or just acting an ass.

Yes, but not everyone does.
At least half the explanations are things like, "KILL KILL OMG KILL" and "...", so yeah. :/

well you know how to solve that. make it so if they do something like that, they get a temp bad for misuse of the system....
That would teach them to use it correctly... <grin>

If you're such an advocate of a temp ban, I'm sure I can find a few spam posts of yours to start with. I'm pretty consistently surprised by the level of your posts, given your age.

As I have learned from black.ice although i sometimes tend to ignore it is to take the higher ground.
In your case i make exceptions.
I'm sure you could. But before you cast stones be aware you live in a glass house too.
YOu are just as guilty of flaming as the rest of us. you just hide behind your little mod shield and think your above everything. Kinda in diference to alahs teachings don't ya think?
But then again I wouldn't expect much more from you.
Okay. Anymore and I'll be the one handing out temp bans here.
Ironic that a thread about reporting posts would lead to posts getting reported within it.
Yes Nuts, we need to speed up our response time, and yes the users need to be more descriptive within their reports.
Thanks.
