Disclaimer: Skip to the bottom paragraph if you want to skip the introduction and help me with a couple of questions :P.

So, I just got back into SC after having not played it actively for quite some time (years, actually...though I've played it off and on since then). I had no idea there were still all these communities scattered about! The fact that I've found a few different places that people play still encourages me to get back into the game. So, after searching around lurking about a few places for a week or two now, I've decided this place fits my personality best. I love the smaller communities of members where everybody has a sense of humor, is helpful, and isn't afraid to criticize each other. So, I think I'm going to try and start posting here and playing games with you guys, if that's possible.

So...about me...well...you can read the silly stuff in my profile if you're so inclined. About my playing style/level: Back before BW I religiously played SC for like a year or two. I got to be pretty friggin good, if I may say so myself. Back then I played mostly zerg, and was a huge fan of mass hydras/cracks (wasn't every zerg player then?). I quit after a little while (before BW came out), and came back when BW was released. It was hard to adjust to the new units, and I got my ass handed to me quite a few times. I eventually caught on decently well and was a decent player back before build orders and playstyle became so battle-tested and streamlined as they are now. I didn't play it as religiously as I did Vanilla SC, and I eventually quit. Since then I've played off and on about every 6 months and mainly just fooled around. For some reason, me and my friends have now been playing every day, and I'm really getting back into it. I'm definitely the best out of our group, but that's not saying a whole lot, as I pretty much taught them all how to -really- play.

So, how am I right now? I'm a pretty good player when it comes to knowing about the game and the units, thanks to my long history with the game. Since it's been so long since I've played actively, though, my micromanagement and macromanagement (basically useful APM in general) is way down. The level at which build orders have gotten to now astounds me, as it's almost as precise an art as chess now. If you miss a beat or step, or misread your opponent, you're dead. This is pretty new to me, as it wasn't so honed and precise before. Thus, I still need the experience with a lot of that. I used to play mostly zerg, but now I'm enjoying Terran's tank/vulture/goliath/turret pushing quite a bit, so I dunno.

So hello everybody, I hope I get to meet and talk to a lot of you and play some games. Maybe if I end up being decently active here I can even join the clan? That would be lots of fun (;

------Questions here!----------
ANYHOW, sorry for that novel, but now I have a few questions (:

Question 1: I've read that you guys meet in the channel "op swbk" in USEAST. That's great, since I usually do USEAST for bnet, but I don't see anybody when I join that channel. Do you literally type in "op swbk" or does op stand for something else? I noticed a lot of other communities using the whole "op" thing, so maybe I'm missing something.

Question 2: Does anybody know how to turn off first person replays in BWLauncher? That's getting really annoying :|.

Question 3: I noticed in a lot of pro replays that the pros tend to just click on their buildings and make units instead of hotkeying them. Is there any reason for this? It seems to me that using hotkeys for buildings would be a lot faster, especially since bwchart says they aren't using the 7-0 hotkeys for anything else anyways. Just curious.

Alrighty, that's it. Hope to see you guys around, and thanks ahead of time for the replies! :P

channel name op swbk
just type /j op swbk and you're there. Tho, because time zones are different, you probably wont find anyone on too early. Evening is good for finding usually.
Question 2: Does anybody know how to turn off first person replays in BWLauncher? That's getting really annoying :|.

if my memory serves right, type /fpplay off

because they use alot more buildings than only 3 or 4, they don't use them. It's faster to simply go over and click as fast as possible. Zerg is an exception since they dont need as many buildings to produce units, and larvas pile up up to 3 and all. with toss and terran they might simply hotkey one location so that they can go over and click as fast as possible

We came to op swbk because op org.network was lacking activity, and on op swbk there were more people thus, more matches to play.

Im sorry shakuras, you can always go back to plain ol swbk.

btw is that swbk forum like made for some allready existing group of friends or something cause they seem a bit... sisäänpäinlämpiävä, eristäytyvä, sisäsiittoinen what s it in english giga? well they have like their own inner circle and when peoples come to op swbk its like "wtf are you guys doing on this channel?" while most communitys (like wb) would be "uuh so great to have new guys here welcome!"
once i found link to shakuras from someones desc and clicked random thread. There was some new poster commenting. Well in wb everyone would like "welcome to wb <3 nice to have new members"

Comment there was: "who invated you? how did you hear about sharkuras?? who told YOU CAN COME HERE? WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING ON OUR FUCKING FORUM YOU SON OF A FUCKING SPAMMER? WTF? AAAAAAHHH IIII WANT TO DRINK YOUR BLOOD AND CUT OF YOUR BALLS YOU INTRUDER!" or something

Well, not all forums are as WBs i remember someone posting a thread a while ago where he said that on a forum the people there made a whole topic just to flame him.

Oh and ahzz can you please translate what lammas said in finnish?

I think it would probably mean something along the lines of "stuck up little bitches," but they've never really been rude to me and some of them will even game with me like gladstone and lost (I assume they're from shakuras...I never really asked).

I know MustardMap is from shakuras... if gladstone is too then maybe he could explain their attitude.

Glordag

Heh, I've noticed they have pretty radically different personalities. A few of them have asked about me upon seeing me for the first time in op swbk. One basically said "uhg, another WBer", while the rest said something more like "oh, ok". For the most part they've been nice...or at least cordial. A few have definitely expressed a little bit of a bitterness towards the integration of WB into the channel, though.

BZZZ! WRONG!

Gladstone, unholyassassin, vezer, thedutchjelle, and a few less prominent figures are from shakuras (i am an occcasional SKer)

Once basically said "Ugh, another WBer"

That would be me. And that was a word for word quote, I didnt "basically" say it. :D

Me and MustardMap acually got to swbk via warboards irc chat channel, at same time :P sothere.

Most of us DO NOT have that attitude with WBs, maybe except proto and dutch, if u don't like what they are saying just squelch. I for one do not mind anyone coming in to shakuras, maybe except retarded hillbillies that can't type properly. We probably won't greet you when its your first time coming over, since we already have quiet a few new people coming in all the time. Most of the new people that come are friends of other fellow Wb members and shakuras.

The big guys of op swbk are ixion, and bluc who hosts the bot "swbk" and it seems to me that they don't mind. then what can other people do to prevent your from coming?

Protogod

"op swbk" hereto referred to as "swbk" was originally founded by myself Ixions_Revenge and Bluc_gillier. swbk is completely independent of forums. It was not created as a forum channel but as a hangout. Even before the spawning of bscorg and shakuras.

It is open to any looking for an honest game without worry of hackers or cheats. Such players simple arent tolerated there. It's not associated with any forums and is open to all types of players. everyone is welcome to hangout there, regardless of your forum of choice. I've only ever asked new people how they heard about it to try figure out where the word is out.

Currently Stealthbot is down but the channel admins are:

Ixions (me)
Splattercorpse (bluc)
Salv (Salvatore321)
nw.lost

If you want some access simply ask one of those admins. Many of the commands are the same as any other bot. The only real new command is the custom greeting system. Any players that are members of the WB clan will get an automatic greeting, but any player regardless of access can create their own greeting. Simply type ".addgreet <Greeting> " Any injustice you feel you have received can be reported to the admins with ".report <message>" along with any questions or concerns. Any new player has the same right to hang out there as any established player.

There are only four names that can determine when someone isnt allowed to be there and they're all listed above. It takes a lot to get a ban of any sort and is 10 times as hard to be permanently banned. We do discourage extra bots in the channel however as it is often very annoying.

But I would really like to see some higher ups on Warboards cut loose on bnet. Im talking to you BSTRhino and Schwitzer.

I look forward to see you all soon. Good hunting.

ShadeZ
09-25-2006, 9:13 PM
BSTRhino doesn't seem to have much doing here anymore, and Schwitzer is too busy being admin D:

In warboardsland MG is our repsected leader even tho he younger then most of us ^_^

(or possibly vice versa)Haha...well I've already had my ass handed to me on a platter a few times by Babs, if that gives you any indication :P. Based on that game I observed between you and Blupp, though, I'd say I'm somewhere in that range. We'll have to play soon and find out (; . I WOULD have been on today and yesterday, but alas, I've been sick and a pile of schoolwork is now piling up on me. After today, though, I should be good to loiter the channel some more :P.

Oh, and thanks for the reply/info Ixion, even if it wasn't directly aimed at me.

I don't recall anytime on Shakuras where people were xenophobic o.O. Maybe in the beginning when it was fragile but not anytime recent.

My standard greetings for new people are:

"[Name] who are you?"
"Where do you come from?"
"How did you come across this channel?"

I get some heat for that, but I never would say "OMG new person! Die! *Stabbity stab stab squishy*"

I just get curious :\
