View Full Version : anyone play warhammer/40K/LOTR
Iv heard alot about the tabletop game of warhammer, warhammer 40K and the Lord Of The Rings one.
Now does anyone play anyone one of the three, because i have been thinking of getting into 1 of the 3, if u do play it which 1 of the 3 has the biggest community and funnest to play?
I really like the way the games are played and the well painted ones look awesome.

Warhammer 40K.
40K and LOTR. Both are fun but in different ways. I find LOTR a little more strategic, in 40 K you can lose purely on what your army is made up of. 40K has a more interesting setting and the models are more fun to paint and convert though.
I have no idea about Warhammer Fantasy. A new version has just come out, but I'm not into the whole Fantasy thing myself.

I play LoTR: BFME (gonna get 2 soon) on the PC, I play Warhammer 40k: Dawn of War on the PC, tabletop 40k, and I've dabbled a little bit in Fantasy Battle (I've started a Beasts of Chaos army).
yous didnt really answer my Question i asked which out of the 3 is the funnest to play and the biggest community.
Depends on your area, I am a bigger fan of Fantasy Battle than 40k, I just find it slightly more enjoyable and requiring more thought with your tactics. (Although I still have not played the 4th edition 40k)
The community in your area I would have to say nip into your local Games Workshop store and ask which is more played around there.
Which is more fun depends on you personally, your local place should let you play a few trial games of each one against a staff member to see what you like.

No, you asked who played any of the games, and which had the biggest community and such.
We could have answered either question.
I was more expecting an answer saying for example WH40K is the funnest beacause the models look cooler, its a funner game in general to play and that stuff but anyway thx for the advice, i have just been thinking if i should get into the whole tabletop thing and because of the price ill prolly stick to one of the three.

Go for LoTR or Warhammer Fantasy Battle if you want a good ol' fantasy romp. 40k has plenty of fantasy elements mixed into sci-fi.
I don't recommend either Fantasy Battle or 40k if you're poor. Both games are extremely expensive; if you want a decent starting army in either, you better have around 200 dollars to kill.

For ranged firepower, go Imperial Guard (some of the weakest units in the game, though) or, god forbid, Tau (which is the Imperial Guard, anime-styled)
For overall ownage, go Necrons (best noob army ever. not a lot of units, and they all own to varying degrees)
For a melee powerhouse, or Orks or Chaos

I tried playing 40K ; its such an odd game I couldn't get used to it.
Kinda feels like BF2 with all the flags to capture, lol.
Well, if you are not all that poor then it doesnt matter, but 40k tends to be cheaper to collect (Standard size army is three quaters the size and you have ten-man squads rather than 20+ man regiments)
And again, it depends what you like, in 40k nearly everyhting has some sort of firepower, but in FB you need to think a lot more about your movement (it goes slower)
Im going to go with 40K, mainly because i find it cool, i like the looks of the imperial gaurd, space marine, ork, necrons. Mainly because they look cool...
Im going to go to one of those Gamesworkshop places and see what its all about, oh and is the painting/assembling hard?

Its as hard as you want it to be.
All the basic units glue together easily and with lots of variations in pose (Except the snap together stuff you get in the Battle For Magragge/Battle For Skull Pass sets) But you can take the hacksaw to parts and "convert" practically anything you want.
The painting, same again, there is a lot of detail, but you can paint over it if you want and only use the same few colours to get a squad done in only an hour. But taking your time over it will make it look a lot better.

I play Warhammer. The community depends on where you live. In my town it's 40k thats the biggest.
Although i dont know which one most people play at tournaments etc.

EXCUSE ME!? As much as I would like to say something about this I can't help but acknowlege that you're right. BUT STILL!
If you REALLY want a good army (out of what you already have selected that is), and you like a LOTTA firepower and can soak up a lot, I'd go with the Marines. Well, I guess it also depends on what chapter you choose.
In terms of assembling and painting, ditto with singo here it can be as difficult as you want to make it on yourself. Also, if you really want a bad ass looking army then glue some battle trophies/accessories to them (i.e skulls, magazine clips etc.).
Oh an also, if you want a good swamping army that just hacks the hell out of an enemy then I would have to suggest...
