View Full Version : New Member Thread Suggestion
It might be nice if we could include some directions for new members in the "user agreement." Most importantly, we might want to include some bold red letters that instruct them where they can post to introduce themselves.
The "I'm new" threads seem a bit excessive as of late.
Just a thought.
Edit: I just noticed the new member thread seems to be gone. Did we kill that project?
Don't everyone talk at once.
1st RULE: You do not talk about FIGHT CLUB.
2nd RULE: You DO NOT talk about FIGHT CLUB.
Eh, after seeing your latest siggy I got somewhat amused. *Relates it to thread topic* :smirk:

I don't exactly see it as a bad thing, although some guidance to their aiming perhaps isn't that of a bad idea.

The New Member Sticky thread in the lounge was removed, as it was getting spammy and was cluttering up the top.
Though, a single thread to detract multiple introduction threads would be a good idea.

Because of all the "new member" threads we are getting, I think this would be a good idea. They're tedious and take up space. Just a section underneath IR and EC. :)

Heres one:

Right... and this as nothing to do with your 'megalomaniac, egotist' ways.

Anyway, perhaps a newcomers area just below the IR and the Entertainment Compendium wouldn't that of bad idea afterall. *Wink, wink* :)

Hey, I'm not a true buffoon, I just enjoy masquerading as one.

Kindly note the subtle, single comma around the 'nice' adjectives I labelled ya with.

Bash says "cruise control for awesome".

Awesome, cool... pure semantics. :P
Another suggestion would be to create a "new member" forum. Something in our system is prompting new members to post like never before, and while that's great, it also screws up the forum view for real topics.

You mean something like where they can post instead of the lounge ? Like a separate Member Intro forum ?..
At least , unlike the universal thread, it will give a chance to every new member to make their own thread (Something they felt tempted to do even when we did have the Hi thread ;))in a proper place
Sounds good ^^.

Exactly. :)
Intro threads are ok, but get spammed pretty quick so it could be a nightmare for mods.
I think it's needed, myself, it's just that I'm not the guy who has to deal with the spam whores.

I think adding an introductions sub-forum to the members lounge along side the EC and the IR is an excellent idea.

*Sigh* Sometimes I feel so misunderstood (http://www.warboards.org/showpost.php?p=371091&postcount=7)... and just 'cause I didn't want to specifically mention "à la BF". :P
Sheesh Basan, I read right past that. Sometimes I do that and you just have to smack me in the head and say "pay attention!" ;)
Birthday boy, do you have any thoughts about this?
You know how I feel about Newbie forums.
Gerard agrees for the most part.
We're going to try another new thread in ML, and go from there.
I know how you feel about it, but things have changd and I figured something needed to be done. A thread would certainly help at the very least.
And throwing Schwitzer in the mix is a pretty low attempt to get me to respect the idea. ;)

Consider me your a million miles away, behind the scenes conscience. I simply can't smoothly play the role of a cricket (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pinocchio)...

And AJ, the thread will help heaps... or so I think. Let's wait to see the results this time...

It's our intention to try to steer new members towards the Introduction Thread as part of the registration process. We're hoping this solution will prove effective.
I'm guessing that the registration announcement was not changed yet? Apparently it still instructs new members to create a thread. I think the intention to get people to participate is getting confused with making a welcome thread.
It never instructed users to make new threads, and it has been updated with references to the Introduction thread.
If you're talking about the registration agreement, that has never included references to either, nor should it -- as that's not part of the agreement, it's part of the header that all new users see upon registration.

I don't know what she's seeing unless I create a new account. But that's why I made the assumption.
