The heat heats helium which feeds the rocket engine which provides
the thrust necessary to move the ship
The ship also possesses a 'solar screw" which can go through light
like a proppellor goes through water
The ships also contain a solar sail and mast for emergency propulsion
The byproduct from the reactor (time) is picked up by a cooling reactor
jacket,fed to a heat pump and pumped to external radiators where time
is dissipated harmlessly into surrounding outer space
Time can also be redirected by the heat pump to saturate various parts of the ship,such as the medical operating room,where it can be used
to speed up the healing process,slow down life,etc
The ships are subject to the Theory of Relativity.but can manipulate
time by use of the reactors byproduct.
As the story starts the Marduks Revenge was winning the race
so a frustrated Tiamat fired off a matter/anti-matter warhead to prevent that.After the smoke cleared the Marduks Revenge's crew
found they were all still present and accounted for,but
-the reactor was set at 500% maximum safe output
-the helium rocket engine was pushing the ship along at close to the speed
of light
-the wheel had been swung over hard right and heading back to Earth
-the crew had been injected with the immune system of Tiamat the dragon
-the solar screw had been torn away
-an apparently desserted Robert E Lee was being towed by the out of
control Marduks Revenge
