Hangman

I've mentioned it a few others places, but I suspect some of you won't pick up on it unless I tell you about it, so. Here it is.

I've just added a little mini-game to the forums, basic game of Hangman. This isn't the arcade, there's no high scores, no record-keeping.. just a fun little game you can now play.

The words list it uses is a default gaming-related list, i'll be compiling our own set of words to use shortly.

Idea for our own words, incorporate some of our forumer names into it! That way, we learn other forumer names :)

I got Dynasty Warrior, but I lost against Rayman and Glitaroo Man or something like that. (Glitaroo Man, wtf were you thinking :) ). Unreal Tournament was easy.

I like this, though. They are hard puzzles. Some long, some hard... Very fun. Maybe when you have a chance, put different catergories down, like "Member names" or "Hobbies" Or something... That would be pwnage right there...

I found a way to cheat. When you get a letter wrong, just press the back button. :(

Hehe, lol, it's not like you get anything, so if you wanna cheat, you can. :)

All you gain from cheating is lessening your own accomplishment, not like the scores are recorded or anything.. as such it doesn't store a session id or anything of the like, there's no need..

I'd have to shift the words into the DB to prevent such from happening and that would only increase serverload for this basic game.

So go ahead and cheat! But.. doesn't change anything. More fun not to.

When I logged out and viewed this thread I could play hangman even though I wasn't logged in by using the link you gave us in that post. That means even visitors can play this game. Is that what you wanted?

Sure, I see no reason to restict it solely to those registered.
I'm not using it as a ploy to force people to register or anything.

AJ, there are a few free hangman games that use JavaScript and dynamic imaging. You didn't need to PHP it. :D

i noticed the speed of the way it flows. no sooner do i click does the letter turn red (or bold :bigsmile:). more words!

I don't think it's not cool, but there are some people who have to wait for 10 seconds across 56k for the page to load. :(

There are dynamic JavaScript ones that don't refresh, that's all I'm saying.

Javascript is bloatware in general -- and not as compatible as a PHP script.
