I just read this and recognized the name - he was from Hammond (my hometown) and I think he may have been a politically involved person that knew my old boss
in any case, ingenious on the girl's part but still sad :(

Eww. :(
Clever on her part, but still... 23 hours with a decomposing corpse? Can you imagine the odor of such a thing? X.x

Er -- That was weird. -_-
You'd think someone would have noticed, don't you think?

If he died on the train, it wouldn't be rotting badly within 23 hours. People do home funerals and leave people out for 1 or 2, or sometimes even 3 days if the weather is good, and they don't smell too bad until a few days later.

Yes. People begin to smell bad in certain conditions I believe, the time varies....due to rate of decomposition. The smell is probably a bit weird, but people are to polite to say things. Really, what would you do? Spray deordorant all over him? I have to hand it to this girl. :/ Poverty makes people do what they need to do.

I don't believe that they are poor, but possibly the daughter didn't have any money on her at the time and was afraid to tell someone and be delayed and have to pay money she didn't have

Can't really blame her.
For one, the guy was already dead so he didn't mind, and she found an economical solution to the problem. Win/win situation.

I don't think he would have rotted too much in only 23 hours, especially in an air conditioned train car. A "horrible situation" indeed.

I'd do the same thing, if you don't have the money, find a way around it until you have it.
Concerning the limited amount of options she had at the time, it was the best thing to do really.
