I went to Indiana for the Labor Day weekend and I took my digital camera and tried my best to keep a digital record of all the highlights of my trip.
My itinerary:
Friday night, caught a 6:50PM Delta flight to Indianapolis via layover in Atlanta (What a hole!) Arrived late Friday, met my father and grabbed a hotel room.
Saturday morning we awoke, went to the Harley shop and rented a Softail Deuce (my father's trailer only fits one bike, so I had to rent one. Ended up with a nicer bike than my own. Bonus!) We rode about 150 miles through West Indiana, stopping specifically in Rockville (an area known well for their covered bridges.)
Then we went South to Bridgeton (real original name, eh?) This was one of my favorite stops during the day. The town had been named after their bridge. Well, last year, someone burned down the bridge. Well, the town rallied together, gathered donations and everyone is pitching in to rebuild the bridge with volunteer time and donations from local companies and tourists. There are a few pictures of the volunteers as well as the bridge itself. The sense of community is so rare these days, it's thrilling to see that it's alive and well in the Midwest.
So anyway, that evening we returned the bike and went to my fathers Summer home (about an hour South-East of Chicago.) The next day we did nothing except sit on the porch looking out over the lake drinking beer. I can't imagine anything better, can you?
On Monday, we went to the NHRA U.S. Nationals. Not much to mention here as the pictures and the videos are much more descriptive. Some might be interested in the Dodge Challenger concept car which was on display, as well as the original 1969 Challenger. Lots of neat rides and lots of great racing. We had to leave early so that I could catch my flight back to Tampa. All in all, I had a great time and I snapped a bunch of pictures. Mind you, I'm no photographer, so keep that in mind when looking at the pictures.
