I'm taking Portuguese now! It came recommended from a friend, who is in good with the professor. It's so much fun to learn, what a great language. And my professor is a great guy, plus as you know in the Spanish/Latin American Studies departments once you get past the intro courses all your classes are composed of nothing but cute girls :)
Oi! Como vai? Tudo bem? Meu nome e' Jaco'. De onde voce^ e'? Tem duas janelas na aula.
It's fun because if only I had a way of showing you how that is pronounced. It sounds nothing like it is spelled :D
If any of y'all have background in Spanish or French and have the opportunity to learn Portuguese I would advise immediately jumping on said opportunity. The spellings are like Spanish, but the pronunciation is entirely different.

Babelfish pode deixar-me falar o português! :D
Anyway, yeah, how I wished we can hear the pronouncations of whatever I or you posted.
Oi! How it goes? All good? My name and ' Jaco '. Of where voce^ e '? It has two windows in the lesson.-Hammock 0_0

I am also learning that Brazilians have great contempt for Portugal. ;) Yeah so anyway to keep this thread going have y'all ever learned any languages that most would consider "off the beaten track"?
Do you know what this means?
ei... mandei um cartao pra vc
A friend of mine got a virus and this thing spewed out of his MSN all summer. It was highly annoying, but none of us knows what it means. I've tried googling it but can't find anything. But I suspect it's some kind of portuguese. Anyone knows? :P
That 'vc' is a weird one. Doesn't sound like a word... but yeah, if it can be translated maybe an acronym will come to mind!
So now I know what the 'come va' of 'oye come va' means from Spanish. Cheers!

I've wanted to learn Gaelic just for the heck of it, but my parents won't waste the money...

I would assume that pra means para and vc means você.
