Does anyone here beleive that Iran is only enriching uranium for electricity instead of weapons? Because the media sure has condemned them already. I was just angry that a news website I was reading quoted the international nuclear electricity somthing saying "it is too early to tell" but the website put a spin on it that implied that it meant that Iran was planning to build nukes...

I'm just wondering if there is somone out there who doesnt hate the country already.

If they have nothing to hide, then they would allow IAEA inspectors into their facilities. The burden of proof is on Iran. Otherwise, it is only logical to assume that they are indeed enriching weapons grade uranium.

And I don't hate the country, but I do have great contempt for their leadership.

What's not to hate? I mean we had a good relationship with the Shah. Supported them, sold them weapons and Aircraft, and financial aid. Then they turn around and overthrow the Shah, take our people hostage, work behind the scenes to subvert us in every way. They stabbed us in the back don't get it twisted and forget history.

Many of the shits we are fighting in Iraq, Iran backed and supplied. Hezbollah, formed and supported by Iran.

On the electricity issue, there is no need for a country that size with modest power needs to obtain Uranium based power plants period. "Light water" reactors would fill the coutries power needs and produce no weapons useable fissile material. So why do you want one that uses enriched Uranium unless you have alterior motives.

And as Nuts said "if" (and thats a BIG if) they had nothing to hide then why are they not complying? All other small countries that have Nuclear power agreed to simple terms of inspection and light water reactors, so why won't they? They have a stated agenda and a clear and simple bias. They hate us I hate them.

Also don't get wrapped up in the sympathy for Iran. The citizens for the most part are no better than their leadership, look at his popularity. The only thing most Iranians disagree with him on are his human rights issues. They support his hatred for us. Unlike Iraq where Saddam was hated by his own people if anyone, US UN NATO etc were to itervene on this nuclear issue we would have to fight the whole damn coutry not "pockets" of resistance and the military.

I'd get angry about the "spin", too, if it were a spin. But they refuse to allow inspectors, they keep talking about "wiping Israel off of the planet", and they won't stop uranium enrichment despite some very appealing packages.

Ask yourself, if you were building a old-fashioned wooden ship for good transport, and someone came along and told you that if you let them look at your building facilities and they'd provide you with the transport you'll need from modern ships and some money, would you take it?

Anybody in their right mind would immediately pounce all over a deal like that. It's 10x better than what you could achieve by yourself and they'll pay you to do it. The only reason you wouldn't want a deal like that is because you're doing something with your building facilities that you don't want others to know about. Not because you want building facility privacy or some other transparent bullshit like that.

Unfortunately, I think whn it comes to the possibility of producing nuclear weapons, you have to assume the worst unless the suspect can prove otherwise. The fact that Iran is so unwilling to let anyone inspect their facilities does scream out that they have something to hide. Additionally, for a country like Iran, what incentive (other than those being offered in the new package) do you have to not investigate producing nuclear weapons when you have the capablity of doing so? In order for Iran to move onto the same level as the 'Big Boys' and legitamize itself as the supreme military force in the Middle East, it has to develop a nuclear arsenal. If not, Israel will always be a threat and a bully.

Taking a moment to consider if they are indeed telling the truth is an appropriate question at this time, unless of coarse everyone has already forgotten Saddam Hussein's weapons of mass destruction.

Anyway, Iran won't nuke America
1. They lack the delivery system.
2. They hate Israel more than they hate the US.
3. In the OFF chance they could build ICBMs without us noticing, managed to destroy Israel and still had nukes left over and then the nuke hit DC... well its safe to say we'd nuke them back until Iran becomes a giant mirror.
