I don't see why you post reps when you're facing the Blizz CPU...
You need macro practice. You spend resources pretty well, but need better expanding.
And...don't use scouts. For, like, anything.

I was going to watch them, but after reading blupps post I decided not to. If you have to actually post replays asking if you did good against a blizz comp, you probably did, or you really suck. Play on B.net or Ahzzs AI, blizz comps are just for figuring out what each building or unit does. Oh yeah, there is a stickied thread where you can post replays and you spelled infinite wrong.

lol owned. we're not here to comment on grammar. anyways, it was same with me. almost dled them, until i read dl. you should play against other ppl and post, not cpu.
Thank god for bluppy. The forunner so that we don't have to watch player vs comp games.

The second rep is against a persons
WickedImposter
09-01-2006, 8:04 AM
its UMS. the only reason you should save reps is to get better at melee. UMS dosent really help your sc game, unless its TMM or any variation of team micro stuff.
team micro or tmm doesn't really help your microing. You learn micro the best by playing 1v1's, and maybe a bit of 1v1 micro maps/micro tournament

COMPLETELY out of context...but Ahzz...where did you say I could find your AI? I looked at your profile (you said something about your profile) but didn't manage to see anything about that there...I'd like to try it out. As Blizz CPU isn't very challenging, and sometimes I need pausable SC.

Just goto B.net and look under my profile. It's in there too. (I'm assuming you know my nick?)

Tmm helps your playing a little if you're the player with a base ;)

ya. well, im gonna take ahzzs advice, get over my fear of losing and just start playing 1v1s. even if i lose.
Siege_Commander
09-02-2006, 8:44 PM
Well if you have that fear, you are never gonna get better. I have that fear only v real strong ppl like ahzzy, lammy, middy,... Babs, sky, matty, imma challenege:)

Actually, when I played lammy I know I was gonna lose, which was kinda relaxing. I already knew I was screwed, so I was kinda calm and did everything "right". Until it turned out he totally cheesed me, and I did everything wrong defending the cheese.

09-04-2006, 12:10 PM
Lol. Yeah. Kinda same for me. I know im gonna lose, so i tend to be even more foucused.

09-04-2006, 3:20 PM
ya. like when i saw this guys record, it was like 600-100, not that stats matter. but i nailed the BO playing toss, and i did very well. you tend to be better whewn you know your going to lose.

09-04-2006, 7:10 PM
Not always. Just ina diff mindset than when playing someone you know you have a chance.

Actually, yes.
Otherwise it's like "oh, shit...this is good...i can make this...if i don't screw up...SHIT, the refinery didn't build in time, now i'm screwed! Damn, now I built the factory in the way of the comsat. FUCK!!"
When facing someone 100 times better it's "ok, I'm screwed...let's just relax and make the best of it".
Oh, and I smoke Marlboro, when I smoke.
WickedImposter
09-05-2006, 4:48 PM
lol blupp. they have marlboro in sweden? anyways blupps right. whenever i play someone my skill level i always screw something up. usually my BO. anyways, sometimes you can pull out a win against the better person

OK, then when your playing a good player its like, "Oh shit, this is bad, I know whatever I do, I cant make this, so Im gonna play BETTER to delay the inevitable." Sorry, I dont understand, or maybe you dont understand
WickedImposter
09-05-2006, 6:30 PM
no. its more like, oh, ill prolly lose, and then you realise that you might as well give challange. i dunno, maybe its from subconcious, but every time i think the other person is good, i nail everything. when im playing someone i think i can beat, i almost always mess up BO or something else.

I think egos have a big part to do with this, so its not going to be the same with everyone, I geuss
Ego might have something to do with it, I guess.
And it's not a rule written in stone or anything...
But for example, I played Ahzz, and did fairly well (though he was screwing around in the beginning, but even whn screwing around he's good). Expoed, massed, teched, the whole lot. Only thing I screwed up there really was that I didn't expo in time.
Then of course he shaped up, and being way better than me, beat the crap out of me. But this was expected.
Then I played U-238, which is way closer to my skill level, and do stupid mistakes like forget to tech stim, forget to build supply depots etc. I lost those games too, when I might has well have won (yes, U-238, I really think I could have won. And someday I WILL! :P)
I remember playing lots of full house 1v1s on warcraft (boo! hiss! ;D) where I was clearly the inferior player. Last thing you want is to give the players a terrible game to watch, so you give it your all. Who knows, maybe you underestimate yourself or you capitalise on an opponent's mistake and pull off a win?
As for standard games, you are sort of given a free reign to try something different when matched against someone who you know is better than you. Surprise... you do something bizarre and win. Sure, you could fall flat on your face, but let's face it, at least you've saved some time!
The old dictum of learning from your losses is important, too. Obviously if you lose against a similarly skilled player, you've made more mistakes or they've played better, but often they're not so easy to pick up. Losing against a better player accentuates your mistakes, because you know they'll capitalise and send you packing! Think of it this way. If you're playing a similarly skilled player and you both have terrible macro, then you won't necessarily notice anything wrong (obviously if you did, you would correct it and win the game). If you're constantly fighting your opposition's stronger, larger army, however, you'll know something's amiss. Perceive. Rectify. Adapt!
Mind you, no one likes to lose all the time or to regularly be matched with much better players. But when you can play with the same intensity regardless of opponent skill, then you know you're on the right track.

Lol...I'm flattered you think that highly of my opinion, but why didn't you read it? It's not THAT long :P
full house 1v1 means full of observers
When I play someone who is supposed to be "better" than me, I try to beat them. Why worry if you are playing someone good, just take each step of the game in stride. He's harassing my scv with his probe, ok, have my scv attack his probe. He's lurk dropping my main? Stim rines and intercept, use scanner and try to micro.
I don't mean to be like Yoda, but: Do or do not. There is no try.
Just friggin' do it, man. Anyone can be good, they just need to put in the time playing and get good. Whether it be by practicing w/ friends in a channel, or powering games on PGTour, it's up to you.

I think people have misunderstood me, I meant that I dont see why people play better when they are up against a better opponent, Im not saying that I like to lose or be regularly matched with an opponent my skill level, I play the same no matter who Im up against, sometimes I play better when Im up against a weaker opponent.

i read it. and its even more well said than i imagined it to be. anyways, i guess well never know what causes us to become sharper when playing a superior player. or sometimes inferior, but your mind creates an illusion using previous battles with the person or other things. oh i palyed a game today against noobs, and i screwed up alot. that furthers your theories.
own3d0406
09-08-2006, 1:42 AM
I play better against noobs the same reason blupp plays better against people better than him, when playing someone 100times worse than me,I just take it easy, if I screw up, I just see it as a handicap and continue playing normally.
blupp74

I guess we can agree that playing people of equal skill sucks then :P
WickedImposter
09-08-2006, 8:16 AM
not really. for me its of equal skill or higher. of course, against a noob, even if i screw up, ill still win because its a noob. but against a pro, i might lose for the same reason. i nail everything, its just that hes better.

Per definition, he's better BECAUSE he "nails everything", and you don't.
If you nailed everything, you'd be the winner.
But I think SC is about 60% "doing things right", 20% "he might do this, so I'd better do that", and 20% "I bet he won't expect this, but if he does I'm screwed".
Starcraft is 80% macro, and 20% execution. My opinion, anyways.

lol. But the last part of what you said isnt true, cuz any decent player should scout. And its more than 60 percent execution.:P
Players not only scout, they also prevent opponents from scouting in different ways. So it's not always a matter of "just" scouting.

And skill crushing...well...if UMS is all you want to play, then you don't really need skill for melee. And vice versa.
