Does anyone know where I can get the files to install the multiplayer spawn of starcraft? I'm hosting a LAN at my school this weekend and thought SC would be a good game to play...unfortunately, I've lost my CD so I can't create copies for spawning the multiplayer game. If anyone could help point me in the right the direction, it would be much appreciated. Thanks!

I'm not sure if you can download spawn - I know you can download a single player demo, but that doesn't help. Your best bet would be to find the CD or find someone who has a CD you can borrow. If that isn't going to work, you could always just buy a new one for about 10 bucks.
Following the same lines that BMB mentioned... and it also would be illegal to do that Quade. Anyway, a new CD isn't even that much expensive. ;)

Quade isn't talking about illegally copying or duplicating the software -- the original starcraft comes with a feature built in that let's you install the program on infinite computers with a special mode called "Spawn" which lets you run the game as a multiplayer client that can ONLY join games created by the original full version of the game installed with the same CD key. When you install Spawn, you enter the same CD key as you use on your computer and then you can legally run it without the CD, but only for things like LAN games.

*Meh* Same thing I was referring to. I seriously don't know where the rest of you lot ever got to the conclusion that we were talking any different (legally speaking, that is). ;)

This is where I got the idea that you people weren't all on the same page:

The line "it would also be illegal to do that" is the first reference in this thread to copying a CD, or anything not-legal for that matter :P
or just use 3333333333333
Using a fake CD key (such as 01234567890123) is a way of installing the game for LAN use -- but it still requires you to have a disk for each computer (which is where you might be making illegal copies). The "Spawn" program eliminates the need for copies or extra CD keys, both of which you two brought up in the thread -- not the original poster.
He needs a cd... he doesn't actually have it.
You need to just go spend 10 dollars on a new copy or something. But not many people will want to play it anyways... Without broodwar, not many people can go back to vanilla sc =P

My "anyway, a new CD isn't even that much expensive" was the punch line. Period. Furthermore BMB, in all this time at WB's how many times did you saw me alluding for people to do illegal stuff? :P

With luck, he only lost one of the CD's (read, that's what I initially thought after reading his post) and thus solely needs to acquire it by the rather cheap value of 10 U.S. $ to play it back wherever n' whichever way he pleases. Reasonable, don't ya think? :)
