How did you Discover WB?

Long story.....

About 1 year back, I was cruisin' google, searching for a new starcraft website, and stumbled upon StarCraft.org. After hanging out there for awhile, I joined BlizzForums. You've most likely heard of the whole BF ordeal, so I'll spare you the long part. I can't really tell you the next part, because, well, I just can't. But soon after the split I was informed that WB was up, and I registered, and been postin' ever since. :)

A while ago, October 17, 2003 to be exact, I was searching for something about starcraft, I think I might have been searching for a map editor. I stumbled across www.starcraft.org and somehow clicked on a link to the forums. I think I saw the SC2 area and was intrigued, so I signed up. I basically never ventured out of that area for a while, at least a month. After a while, I went to the RP area because I remembered when I had done it at GW (not a great forum, stay away!). That is where I rediscovered my love for RPs and writing, and I stayed there for a while, but going to SC2 area too. That is when I met the people I know online, like BH, Geno, etc.

For a few months, I wasn't able to go on the BF site. When I got back, early April, I think, I saw that the RP forum was pretty much dead and that the people I had known where not there. After about a week, I saw a thread that said that BF had split or something. They included a link to here, but it was www.********.org type thing. I got the idea of searching for posts made by BH, and I found a post that led me here. So I suppose I have BH to thank for giving me a link that wasn't starred out.

I was searching for stuff on SC2 about a year ago and in the search results I found Blizzforums SC2 forum. I then tricked my mom into letting me sign up (:tu: ) and was posting there and stuff and was happy. :)

Then the split happened. I found my way over here eventualy and well...been posting here ever since. :)

Still post at Blizzforums though. ^_^

Well I found starcraft.org on google aorund the month of september of 2003. I then visited them regularly for 2 weeks and then I found sclegacy.com. I never joined blizzforums though. I then went to sclegacy much more then starcraft.org (sorry Bstrhino) because they always had news and strategies. The only reason I went to starcraft.org was to read the stories if I was bored. Then around 1 day after warboards was created I just luckily happened to go to starcraft.org and on the news it said join our forums, warboards, or something like that. This was going to be the first forum I ever went to and I didn't know what it would be like. Now I think it is one of the best things on the internet.

My story is basically similar to that of the majority of the people who have been registered back in February. However, I am probably among the oldest members in both age (27) and time I have spent in the Blizzard gaming community (over 3 years) so I have been around the block for a while. :)

As of right now I am trying to fix all the bugs in my comp so that I can finally return to full active duty in both the forum and the B.Net scenes. And for those who have been keeping up with the "Demon Knight" Stories that are found in the "Creative Concepts" forum then I hope to get back to finishing the first part of a 5 part story as soon as I can and then begin with the 2nd part soon afterwards. I haven't forgotten about you. ;)

Mods don't have to be invisible, although they do have that ability. I doubt they are invisible most of the time, there isn't really any point to it and some people would wonder if they are on are not. So if there is a problem and someone wants to PM an admin or mod, and it shows that they are not on, they might not.

Back to subject, aight? I wasn't there at "The split", so I missed out the ordeal I suppose, right? I was ALSO at StarCraft.org, and I had been on their old forum, that was Blizzforums I think, or something, man I was just there lurking sometimes, and when I come back these days, the forum's gone and it says, uh, "linkin' to WarBoards.org...new forum there...etc.." So The forum had moved, so I decided to begin there again, and then, I was being actively every after..in despite to the ol' SC.org forum, I had somewhat activity firstmost but it died out..slowly...and builded up nowadays, as this continue the legacy. Yeah. That's it. The true story. Or did CC.org, with their lovely SC Campaigns - I'm talking CampaignCreations.org here - linked to this page? Like a WarCraft Board, hm? Well, I'd hit that. And I did - Suppose I'm a newbie in most eyes, though, but still, somewhat no :)

Technically, everyone (including staff members) can use the invisible mode option in their CP. Though the mods and above can still see everyone even if they are invisible. I had been around long enough to remember posting in the Starcraft.org forums back before Blizzforums was created.

Can anyone guess which SC.org member who had this avatar before me? :D SC.org admins are not allowed to answer because they can look through the forum archives at Starcraft.org.

Since I hadn't been by SC.org or talked to anyone connected to it (in fact, I hadn't been online much for a couple of weeks), I was a bit lost at first as to why certain people were banned over at BF. But now that I'm here, I've happily settled in, and occasionally make a cameo at the other board.

Well, I came because a while ago (early last year...or the year before...) I had gone to a friends and played WC3 online, and played all these cool scenarios (one was this crazy Vampire one...) and so I decided I wanted to buy it. So before I bought it I thought I would figure out good scenarios and learn about the game so when I did get it I could beat my friends...or at least not get owned within 5 mins :).

Anyway, I was searching google for WC3 info and I came upon the Blizzard site (of course) and it linked to BlizzForums.com. So I signed up and began posting, slowly losing out on the fact why I had come their and leaned more into RP'ing which I found out I loved. Heh, I remember the good ol' Quest of the Dragonhorn RPG days...that was my first RPG and the one that I learned so much from, especially from the real elites there (i.e. Doom, Sub, Ender, Geno, Holjfie, PC, Were, etc.). And then new guys came in later on (WK, and some others) and we became good buddies and whatnot. Then while I was away for some reason (I forget why I was away) all the turmoil started.

So I began looking around and found a link to WB from Geno before they banned the link (well censored it), so I came here and began posting and whatnot. And that is how I came to WB. Keep in mind I have totally forgotten the real reason I came to these forums: Blizzard games, which suprisingly (and many people have said that) I play none of them :).

A long while ago (october 2003 I think) I discovered starcraft.org which changed my starcraft expierience forever. I finally had other people online who played sc (aside from on b.net) all of the tutorials! the strategies! it was wonderful. Then, I started voting in the polls, such as "water units in patch 1.11", and saw news, and other things posted by BSTRhino. Until I finally got enough sence to read the staff section, I had absolutely no idea who he was. I started seeing him telling people to stay on topic in the polls and if they want to talk about other things, they should go to the forums, warboards.org.

I didnt think much of it at first, I just shrugged it off, and told myself I didnt want to join a forum (I dont really remember why) but, as my starcraft activities increased, so did my interest in other aspects of it. I started posting the occasional strategy on starcraft.org. Then, I discovered customs. First it was just the SDconversion and other starcraft.org customs i played, but then I began to thirst for more customs, with more in them then just the occasional Iscript change. After a while, I discovered the GundamCentury conversion, and downloaded it. I read the production history of it, and I was inspired. I began work on my own custom conversion, Starcraft: Orion Sector. However, I knew very little about modding and the tutorials on starcraft.org werent all that helpfull (for the things I needed to do) so, seeing nothing else I could do, I came here. At first, it was just the occasional question on how to do something, but then, I started to get to know the people, and got attached to the forums, and thats how I got to warboards.

P.S. I never would have stayed active if it werent for BSTRhino If it was say, someone mean and evil who first greeted me, *cough* sambo83 *cough* I probably wouldnt have wanted to get to know the forums more.

P.S.S OMG that was really lenghty.

Crys... I just realised that i've wasted many-a-weeks in front of this computer at both BF and WBs... Hmmm, worth every second of it.

I started out by searching for some SC strats over at gamefaqs.com, which had very few. I was an addict to their boards, so I checked the SC forum in there. As I remember, there was a forum complaining about hacking which I clicked. Somebody dissed someone else, who in turn dissed another who then posted a link to starcraft.org. This was in October of 2002. I found the link to BF then.

Afterwards, I got hooked as user Josh, though had a 3 month absense. Later I came back as Duddits and stayed on as so. Then everything went to hell, for me on BF, after the whole Xenon thing which led up to the split in January/February.

Now here I am, trying to get my dyslexia project done and breaking my groundage to post ^^

Since I always think of BF a competitor not an enemy, I went to see what happened, and I found the wonderful URL before someone censored it. http://www.warcraft.org, just a wonderful memorisable URL.

On topic, then some off topic...

On topic: I joined with the group from BF. Mostly because of things that at the time I feel were nesseccery. Besides, I got to hang with one of my good friends, BSTRhino, and all my old favorites, like DC and such... And I don't mean old as in age wise, but old as in long time... Really, she probably didn't know who the heck I was, but that's beside the point. I follow my friends and fellow posters. And you wonder why the RP forum at BF is dead... o.O

Off topic: I see my name mentioned many times... I remember about 8 months or so ago when I didn't even exist... To tell the truth, if you search under the username 'Drakain_Zeil" over at BF, you will find AT MOST 3 posts with my name in it, one being the BlizzSCUMS status thread... Other than that, I'm one of like 4 active members, and I'm hardly ever mentioned. That shows how noticiable I am to some. Then there's people like Black_Hawk, Whiteknight, and the rest that always mention me. To those who mention me, I feel honored. To those that don't... I hope I'm not wasting your life ;)

~Larry "Geno" Meyers

Oh Nahotnoj, I'm honoured my name was mentioned in your post. I should probably start going in the polls and tell people they should stop going off topic so much some more if it really works that well.

And I should probably make/find more customs tutorials to get more people excited. Thanks for the thoughts and inspiration!

Meh, 1667. Oh well, it doesn't really matter what time you joined.

BST, when I first joined the forum, I only hung out at the SC2 forum and I remember you from there. If I had been somewhere else, and was greeted by other mods, say Seigetank or RC, then I probably would have left the forums too. So I'm lucky I was in the SC2 where you modded before I learned about the forum.

WOW.............This is one very close family (so to speak). You guys have known each other for years........ hehehehehehe IF I wasn't banned from GG Forums then I would have not found the wonderfull taste of The family WB.............In stead I have to be in a family that grounds me every year from computer and does not understand that my homework is tearing me away from the more importan things in life....For example WB.........And does not relize "Never let school keep you from your education"-Mark Twain

HV you are member 1965, you can find this out by hovering over the user's name and it will say "www.warboards.org/member.php?u=1975" (for you, the bold part tells you what their number is, "u" means "user").

Blasted AJ *shakes fist*. Btw, I got an idea for you: forum re-design contest :D.

He's fairly young.

As for a redesign contest.. I'm not making it an official contest. For two reason.
1) I'm not opening up the Admin CP for anyone to access it and develop a skin, as such I'm not going to spend my own time bridging someone's design to vB.
2) There's no need for a contest. I'll accept any designs that you have to offer.

Will the option of new skins slow the page downloading time?

nope. itll be like this little drop down box in your options or perhaps at the bottom of the page. itll only matter if you change the skin. youll load the images once, and then thats it. its cached. you dont slow down.

theres not going to be a new skin any time soon (that i know of) so dont worry about it. when it happens we'll know.

AJ
05-17-2004, 8:12 PM
Only if you were using a possibly more image intensive skin.
Additional skins being available wouldn't slow the load for the site at all, no.

I was lured here with the promise of nublie virgins. Turns out that it was AJ. :(
(Just kidding, AJ!)

I was a Senior Moderator by the name of "Shinitenshi" with BlizzForums and found out about a secret project via AJ that eventually formed into an .org-based forum website. I helped out on a few minor points and joined the staff as "Templar Tenshi" before the site was officially opened.

Since that time, I've retired from the staff at BF to devote more time to my personal life. Since my workload here is significantly smaller, I'm still willing to operate as a senior staff member for the time being until someone or something says otherwise.

And you do a damned good job of it. I can understand personal life. I have to take a few days off here and there for graduation, work, and my new gf all the time... It's one of those deals where everyone has stuff to do, but I can understand. I really hope you stay as Senior Mod, because who knows... Without you, who do we have? Demon_Child? That's it? Yep, all me. Of course, I noticed just than that WarBoards doesn't even making the top 100 list, even with both of us clocking up visits to these forums. Methinks everyone else simply lulled in their Internet usage whilst I continued to take full advantage of the high-speed Internet ;)
