You read it here first (http://www.engadget.com/2006/08/25/fluffy-soap-mouse-works-without-a-desk/). Unless you read it elsewhere. ;)

Thats pretty cool, if/when they release it I'll probably just get it so I can say I have it. If the price is reasonable of course.

By the looks of that video they look pretty easy to make, looks quite interesting.

Hmm, that looks pretty cool. Though it would probably take a while to get used to.

Microsoft keeps making cooler stuff, but mainly things we would never use. Unless we had the extra money for that stuff.
How about Microsoft donates some money to a UN Chairty organization? That would be Uber cool!!!

Yeah, screw that. the UN is the most useless thing ever.

There's a differnece between "useless" and "better than nothing".
Back on topic, it would be an interesting concept but as someone said above it'd take some time to get used to it. My question is though... when do I get my desk-free computer? :D

Yes, but I still stand by my statement that the UN is useless.

Looks kind of pointless to use, but it'd be fun to make.

I honestly doubt you even have the limited soldering experience needed to make this mouse. =\

It's good to see people coming up with innovative new ideas (like Nintendo). Without people who take chances to try to create something new and different, we wouldn't have any of the commonly used technology that we have today - such as the standard mouse.

I don't need a deskless mouse. Batteries die, a cable is fine enough for me.

And I suppose you didn't need a wireless phone, or a wireless TV remote, or a wireless console controller back when those things were being invented, did you? Now what makes you think we will still be using a standard mouse in five years? I'd bet that within the next 20 years (definately by then) we'll be using a different type of input device than the standard keyboard and mouse (maybe a third device?).

TV remotes have always been wireless. I use a cell phone, which is about as much wireless stuff I can stand. Wireless controllers? Nope. In 20 years, I probably won't even be using a computer enough to care about the mouse. I'm probably not gonna buy this deskless mouse. It's definitely fancy (I'm not saying innovative, it's an upgrade from the wireless mouse, which is what it essentially is anyway), but seems to be stupid when everything else I own for my computer requires a desk. And a wire, for that matter.

ok that was uncalled for.
as a matter of fact i do have the necessary soldering experience and even if i didnt i know of several people that would be able to help.

I think it's an interesting idea but at this point in time I would much rather keep my regular mouse and keyboard. How would you use soap to reload your gun in an fps? Crouch, walk, run? It only has one button. Unless of course you used it with a keyboard.

How about this happens:
The homeless gets off the streets.
The Civil wars in Brazil and South Africa stop.
Shanty Town is a meaning of the past.
There is a cure for Cancer.
While i still dream about getting a genie and whishing for World peace, Microsoft makes a fuzzz ball. -.-

:) Fuzz Ball, lol! That looks funny. It looks cool, but in the near future im working towards allowing people to control their home computer with thought alone. It has been done on a prototype scale, Im getting into Robotic Prosthetics specializing in Brain to Prosthetic communication.
Get ready to play true mind games with SC!:D rofl.

I wat an internet connection embedden into my brain and screens on the inside of my eyelds so I can surf the web at any point all I'd have to do is close my eyes.
ofcourse the mouse and keyboard would all be though controlled.
back on topic
while this looks rather odd, I dont think they're selling them.

I agree, soap wouldn't be used for playing games (though it might be fun to try it). I think Soap would be very usefull for things like presentations, or operating a computer in front of a group of people to demonstrate something -- instead of being tied to a desk or having someone control the computer for you, you could walk across a stage while still retaining full control of the computer on a large screen behind you.
This would work nicely in a classroom too -- instead of teachers being stuck next to a laptop, they could freely move around the room while still being able to interact with the computer being displayed on screen via projector with Soap.

Apparently you've never heard of a remote control before. The function you're describing is filled by them.
Yes, you can use a remote with a computer. You, oh king of peripherals, should know this.

How about...Bill Gates has already given nearly $11 billion to charitable causes. A notable $9 billion of that divided up between Global Health and Education initiatives. http://www.gatesfoundation.org/Grants/default.htm
