North or South island? You'll have to forgive me, I'm not very up on New Zealand geography... I know where it is (which puts me above 50+% of my fellow Americans :P ) but not much else.

There are plenty of liberals that would shun the notion of public nudity.

Ha, I live in New Zealand, but I don't think it was in my city. Saw it on the news. When my parents were in the room. So I turned away quickly and found something else to do.
