Some of you are probably saying, "what the [expletive] is HFD and why should I care?"
Well, HFD is Heroes for a Day, the seemingly ever-in-production campaign that's been in my sig for months. Why should you care? I don't know, decide for yourself.
With production moving along at a more solid pace than it had previously been, I thought I'd share a taste of it.
The map size is huge, normally this map was around 5 MB, which I'm hoping I can cut down by doing some music editing in Acid Pro. So you can imagine that having to cut it down to fit the 500 KB limit on Warboards means you aren't getting near the full effect. The boss fight music is kept, but it's now only a 40 second loop of the most atrocious quality :P , and virtually all other sounds and songs had to be removed.
The game will run on a small mod, but the only changes are Hero voices, portraits, and minor weapon editing, most of which is purely asthetic, so don't get excited, there won't be new units or anything. I didn't include the mod because you can play this map without it.
The story, as taken from the map's mission briefing:
After his defeat at the hands of Kerrigan, Mengsk began to rebuild his empire in order to prepare for the inevitable return of the Zerg. Organizing massive military programs and recruiting thousands of men and women, Mengsk aimed to construct a war machine capable of defeating the Queen of Blades. Weaponry and scientific experiments once abandoned were reopened, including the Ghost program.
However, political infighting and fear of the impending Zerg attack soon led to a strife in Mengsk's empire. Rebel factions began appearing, and Mengsk was left with no choice but to quell the uprisings with force. In the midst of the rebellion, a group of heroes will be born. This is their story.
Quick list of important characters (Names subject to change):
Chris Jaguar - Chris is a specialist, and a naturally talented soldier. He performs his duties exceptionally well, but he occasionally gets homesick and questions the motives of Mengsk.
Rodd Tracker - An aggressive soldier, he often appears overbearing and at times simple-minded. In truth, he is very cunning and focused, and his voracity in battle is well known.
Josh Nightly - A dedicated soldier with a strong sense of duty. Josh is most comfortable with his role in the military, and when given leave, rarely chooses to spend all of it. Josh will continue to fight as long as he is able, and is well respected for his devotion to the military.
Roland - A somewhat reckless General of Mengsk's army. He was present as a Colonel during the battle against Kerrigan, but his squad was forced to retreat. Because his squad took out many of Kerrigan's Zerg, Mengsk promoted him to General.
Oliver - Roland's handpicked, chief science officer. Oliver is cowardly and dislikes fighting, but always follows Roland's orders.
Astalpho - Roland's right-hand man. Astalpho is a seasoned pilot and an old friend of Roland and Oliver. His serious nature serves as a balance to Roland's rashness and Oliver's cowardice.
Geraband - The leader of the rebel faction known as the Scarlet Legion. He was originally involved in the Ghost program, but quit after claiming the Empire was committing crimes against humanity.

Well, download and play if you want. Feel free to be brutally honest, I'd very much like this to become a decent campaign, and if you think the entire concept is garbage, don't be afraid to say so. Of course, post any bugs/comments/flames here, although my e-mail is mentioned in the map, I check Warboards more often than I check my e-mail :smirk:
