Option A:
AMD 4200+ X2
1gig stick, 250mb stick
ASUS Motherboard
7600~7800

Cost: 400$ (I already have the CPU and RAM.)

Option B:
Intel Duo
1 gig stick, DDR2
Some kind of mobo
7600~7800

Cost: 900$, approx

Option C:
AMD 4200+ AM2
1 gig stick, DDR2
ASUS Mobo
7600~7800

Cost: 700$ approx

Which of these options should I take?
Anyone give me a better option?

This, because the Intel Core Duo is currently the best overall processor out.

But I thought Intels were only good for video editing?

This is what i'm thinking of:
Antec P180 ATX Advanced Mid Tower Aluminum Case

CPU
Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 Dual Core Processor LGA775 Conroe 2.13GHZ (would this be faster than a 4200 dual core?)

Fan
Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro LGA775 2500RPM 45CFM

MOBO
ASUS P5W DH Deluxe ATX LGA775 975X DDR2 2PCI-E16 2PCI-E1 3PCI SATA2 GBLAN Sound Motherboard

RAM
OCZ Platinum XTC PC2-6400 2GB 2X1GB DDR2-800 CL4-5-4-15 240PIN DIMM Dual Channel Memory Kit

Drive
Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 320GB SATA2 3GB/S 7200RPM 16MB Cache NCQ Hard Drive

Vcard
EVGA E-GEFORCE 7600 GT KO 580MHZ 256MB 128BIT 1.5GHZ GDDR3 Dual DVI-I HDTV Out Video Card

Power
OCZ GameXStream 600W ATX12V 24PIN SLI Ready Active PFC ATX Power Supply 120MM Fan Black

Sound
X-FI Creative Sound Blaster Xtreme Music

All this for around 1.5k.

....where did you hear that?

Personally, i'm an AMD man, only because they generally offer more value per dollar, but the new Intel Core 2 Duo is supposed to blow everything else out of the water, at least the higher end versions.

But in what price range is that?

If you already have that AMD processor, why would you buy another?

Because its not DDR2.
And with the price cuts, its hard to resist.
I'm going to have to switch now or later - and I'd rather do it now.

My only question is wether I should get a good AMD or an Intel.
Can anyone pick a model for me?

Edit: I can get a 7900 GT KO for 100$ more than a 7600 GT KO. Good or Bad?

So you don't want to use a perfectly good Athlon 64 X2 4200+ because it doesn't use DDR2 RAM? Send it my way. :)

Screw that, Tim already has sweet computers. Send it my way to replace my 3200+
