Go back to the time when you were a noob,I mean like the 2nd day You got the game, and remember your stupid mistake. My stupid mistake: I thought overloards could attack, so I made like 10 of them against the computer "Hey wheres the attack button?":concern:

Heh. A few stuff:
I put thinking into deciding which worker mins which mineral.
I didnt know in which folder BGH was for 3 years.
Playing BGH too much.
There were a few games me and a friend "playing" for hours and in the end I have 1 scout and he had 2 tanks. On a strange map, because we didnt knew where is BGH.
--
Since SC played a big role in my life I remember every detail. I remember every time I went to a friends house to wach him play, If he had given me the controls more often I would have become atlease a decent player. 8 years ago.

Lol my Newby mistakes.

I had to be a perfectionist.
1 Scv per Mineral field + 4 Scvs to Refinery = Bad Eco. And i usually made around 12 Scvs.

I was always looking at my build pattern. It had to be in a paticurly shape.

Wasting more Rescources than necissarly on defense. Like if i was on a island, i would cover the edge of the island with turrets all around.

I turtled too much.

Played BGH too much also.

Being too slow to start my camp, and i didnt know any BO.

I remember making 12 bunkers and forgetting to put any units in them because I thought they were like canonns.

I build bunkers in unstragetic places around the map. I thought I could out micro my friend with a dropship and a couple of vulteres. I only build Marines through most of my games. I thought a group of Marines was an automatic win. I thought playing as Terran will give you an automatic advantage that will let you regain your forces back and strike again quickly. I heard expert Korean players would attack Terran players first becouse they would keep sending troops again and again and again, I thought I was going to play like that.

The most worst thing I did when I was a noob was playing Fastest Maps for 2-3 years. :(

B.A.Baracus

I used to tech burrow right away, and build up to guardians, basic noob stuff.
Although I had alot of fun with burrow ambushes:D
I never set foot on money/fastest, I always, and still do consider them sacrilege.

I suppose the worst thing I did was I thought scvs were wariors.

Next was I tried to play just like the computer. (this was when I didn't have b.net availible to me.)

3rd I got addicted to cheats.

My first time playing SC, I played protoss.
And you know how you spawn with a zealot?
I was walking around and I saw this overlord, and that freaked me out. I actually avoided it, lol. And I didn't know you could move by right-clicking, I actually cliked on the move button.

3rd I got addicted to cheats.
Thinking that the Bunker/Siege/Goliath/Turret defense (Something I whipped up myself, most likely used by other people that came up with it, too) was completely impenetrable. Boy, I was wronger than you can imagine, and now I hate Queens.

I thought cheats worked online when I was about 6.

Thinking I would ever be a good player at normal games. I'm somewhat of a super-noob, as I can't even deal with a worker rush. X_X Oh, well, I still have good old SF.

My games in the begginging:
No mater the machups:
Terran: map BGH: build 2 supplies an choke 2 bunks and 4 sieges behind, tech to 12 BCs, own everything
Protoss: map BGH: build a lot of cannons at chocke tech to carriers, build 20, own everyting.
Zerg: map BGH: dont play zerg. but later on: build shunkens at choke, tech to 24 guardians 24 devourers, own everything.

No no no! Read through again, who the fuck will give you 30 minutes to tech to BC, have 12 starports and virtually no other army. That is a result of playing with a bunch of people, weak as you are, lack of b.net = facts that lead to grinding in the same tactical spot for years.. wel .. it was the summer vacation between 4th and 5th grade but it seemed it took for ever.

Yep, I'm guilty of this one too... it was on the Terran campaign mission where you have to survive for thirty minutes, and I couldn't figure out why these new fangled Missile Turrets weren't firing at the Zerg. :)

Hilarious times back then. The moment I got StarCraft (8 yrs old), I was like, I'm usin' Terran cause there ownage cause there humans. Instead of using right clicking, i used the command buttons EVERY TIME. After about 5 minutes, when I had about... ALOT of minerals, I started building a Barracks. Just then, the 1 Terran computer enemy came and destroyed me. Luckily, I was able to kill like, 3 of their marines with my SCV Horde.

Either I just have terrible memory, or I haven't really made any mistake. Sure, in the beginning I had no knowledge of different types of damage and units size, so I probably thought goliaths was the über counter for mutalisks.
I don't count that as a stupid mistake though.
My stupidest mistake was probably playing fastmaps for 2 years (ever since I started on b.net) without even trying normal maps on.
I regret that now. I would have been sooooo good by now if i'd played normal maps and watched reps from the start.

i have tons of mistakes.\

1) playing fastest

2) using cheats for the first month

3) following the prima guide (i actually massed bats against zerg once T_T)

4) thinking that using turteling against humas was a sure fire win.

5) building an acad right in comsat place. i hate irony

Yeah i did that too. I never saw the muta harrass comin till it was too lateT_T

And I watched you do it live :D

Think I saw it with Matty. We were both going "nooooo...what is he doing??"
And skiddy had like 4-5 lurkers right below your ramp, held with an overlord. You had NO detection at all at that point.
Fun times :)

As for my stupid mistakes, that still happen sometimes, there's the "forgot to research stim", then go "WTF!!" when nothing happens pressing "T" when the zerglings charge.
Or the "forgot to research siege" then go "WTF!!" when nothing happens pressing "O" when the goons charge.
Or the "forgot to research cloak" then go "TWF!!!!!" when nothing happens pressing "C" when the marines come to protect the scv's.

Usually this happens when I'm too busy with the micro/macro that I don't hear or see the "not enough vespene gas" when pressing the research button. But I'm quite sure it hass lost me atleast a few games. Which sucks.

WickedImposter

Aaawww...I didn't mean to forget anyone. But yes, it does suck. But it's just another element of micro/macro that needs to be sorted out.

Of course, I rarely play with sound (trying to keep the GF as un-annoyed as possible...and with the constant "Sir, yes, sir!" from the tanks and whatnot, I'm afraid she'd kill me if I played with sound...) which is the biggest reason I miss those messages.

Oh well..

AHAHAHAHA!!! Omg I started laughng so hard when I read that--Cuz I did the same thing too :D

I remember on of my first n00b moments :D I was sooo proud of myself for building like 8 marines like 15-20 minutes into the game. ( ) So there I go, searching for the other player to go and kill them leaving my base open o.0

The other player was staking out at my base waiting for my marines to leave and when they did--He came and killed me, AHAHAHAHA!!! What a stupid n00b :P But I think that Overlord one was the best n00b thing I ever did :D

As I got better--I got to be more of a perfectionist about how I built my base. It wasn't really my undoing--It actually helped me. My mom told me that my base always looked anal because I'd have my pylons in a perfect square with photon cannons in between, surrounding my base. (BGH FTW :D)

I sent in a giant zergling/scourge rush on a comp when I started and I went off to do something else and I looked back and the zerglings hadn't even gotten to the base yet and the scourge were gone. WTF echoed through the walls when I realised that scourge suicided. The lings were ripped apart due to poor micromanagement as well.

I did many things "wrong" when I was noob...
I turtled, didn't scout, didn't expand...
I didn't know how to use special abilites and when in one game defiler came and plagued my whole base, I tried to do the same on my next game and didn't know how. I didn't know anything about detectors and were very confused when enemy attacked my dark templars, because I didn't know my opponent could see them with his detectors. Also, I didn't know how to prevent 12 cloaked wraiths from destroying my base, or one single ghost from nukeing it. And I didn't know how to use nukes. I knew how to build them, though.

I still make the mistake of joining 2v2 public games with people I don't know.

This has a 50/50 sucess rate, as more often than not, I end up with people who are really, really bad at the game, or are good, but their tactics don't work with mine, and there's very bad communication.

It's fun when it works though.

What would be more fun is to play 2v2 with people I know. But no one at wb seems to be interested in 2v2 pubbie games.

Its not a mistake, its just another aspect of SC fun. You (generally speaking) have to learn to adopt tacticks and try to work as a team with ppl you meet on the spot, 2v2 "pubies" have their own distinct set of challenges. I even like 2v2/3v3 (even 4v4) much more than 1v1s. And the succes rate is bigger, if a person consideres himself a good player and gets a weak team mate they both have a bigger chance of succes, even is the weaker one gets eliminated. Although its best to get a friend and part with him against random ppl, disscussed tacktics=bigger chance of succes; easy comunication=even bigger chance of succes.

I forgot to mention this in my previous post:

In one game against computer I had a battlecruiser blinded by enemy medic, but I didn't know it was blind. Then enemy came and used lockdown to it. BC couldn't move, and I didn't know why... Then I read the text on the bottom of the screen: "Blind". I thought it couldn't move because it was blind. In my next game against my friend I built huge amounts of medics and blinded everything what moved. And I was very confused because they still could move even when they were blind...

I only started playing Starcraft recently, so here is a few things that I've been guilty of...

1) Not knowing about invisible units. An enemy terran (the computer, lol, in one of the campaign missions) attacked with about 7 invisible Wraiths. I thought there was a game bug - these lasers were coming out of nowhere, and my units were dying, for what seemed like no reason at all.

2) Having a limited knowledge about nukes, on some "fastest" game, someone deployed one and destroyed my massed marines. I came back on screen and they were all dead. :)

When did this happen?

The world was blessed with the addition to the blupp gene-pool on July 19th.
Cirka 9 months before that, blupp had sexual intercourse, and enjoyed it muchly.

As for switching to toss, I haven't really made a final decision or anything.
It's just that where I used to play 100% T, it's now more like 60% T, 50% P.

Yeah, that's 110%, which just goes to show that I play SC way too much...

LMFAO! and i thought i sucked. this is in league with the 2 cy cores.

2 cy cores can atleast be used for dual upgrades of air (even though it's totally uncommon early game).

No rax can only be used for...well...losing a game horribly. So I'd say forgetting rax is in a league of its own completely.

ya. wonder how long it must have taken him to realize lol

It was 10/10 and I was finishing up on my depot, I had all this surplus and thought "Wow, I have alot of minerals right now. I know! I'll be smart and start on my refinery early hehehe." Then I started pumping SCVs and built another depot. Then I hit 100 gas and hit the "advanced building" button, only to find out that I can't make a factory.

All this equals=incomplete wallin, 2 gate zealot rush, and me banging my head on the computer.

Yeah, I remember my first game, TvP against the ai where I built somehow 4 marines, 2 bats and 2 goliaths and got terribly crushed by the zealot rush.
In the beginning I also walled in preferably with tanks and bunkers or photon guns, teched up to 12 HC/12 carriers and went slaughtering the ai's- this worked till BW came out and I suddenly realsied how fucking pinfull psistorms can hit you.
Another time I lost about 7 groups of mutas against some insame toss when I sent them over the base, not watching carefully over them. Gone in 6,0 seconds :o

I actually still suck at Starcraft, but I don't play it as much as you guys do, so that makes sense.
The funniest noob mistake I ever made was a ZvZ on one of the maps where you can only reach the base with air units. I didn't know the map, so when the guy challenged me to see who can make the most zerglings, I gladly accepted. I had somewhere around 50 over 5 minutes (out of 1 Hatchery-another mistake) when he rushed me with Mutas. I was laughing so hard at myself as I turned all my Creep Colonies to Spores, and somehow fended off the attack. My opponent quit because his cheap tactic didn't work, but I deserved to lose just because of how crappily I played.

I played Terran first. Then when i use Protoss, my probe go to build pylons and stay there for construction...but i find probe do nothing further. automatic construction! So cool! And also i find drone will be dedicated to construction. So I like protoss from then on.

One mistake I still make is joining pub 2v2 games, where I end up with people that suck so horribly I can't even believe it.

Yesterday I was teamed with a T player (I was P) on Luna, facing P and Z.
After doing the initial probe-creation/splitting workers etc, I took a look at his base, since the mini-map showed very little activity.
He had his first 4 SCV's mining, and another 2 just sitting there by the CC.

I thought "ok, this is bad", but then saw the SCV's moving towards the minerals, so I relaxed a bit.

Next comes the part where everyone sends workers to scout. I send a probe, and get visited by a drone, which I manage to kill.
My ally gets visited by a probe, which attacks the SCV building a barracks.
The probe kills that SCV, because my ally does nothing about it.

Not only does he not do anything about it, but he also doesn't send a new SCV to finish the barracks. I swear, a whole minute passes, during which time I'm asking him what he's doing, then yelling, asking why he's not building on his barracks (to which I get the reply "I am", when infact, he wasn't).

Finally he resumes the building, and shortly after about 5 zealots enter his base. I send 80% of my own force (4 zealots and a probe) to save his ass.
I manage to fend of the attackers, but he only has about 3 SCV's left alive now. That he waits forever to put back to work. And it takes forever before he starts building new SCV's. 2 more minutes pass, and our opponents do nothing (which I know means death for us). Looking back at his base, I see very few SCV's, 2 supplyt depots, 1 barracks, and no gas. I tell him to build more SCV's, and get gas. He says "I don't need it". "I have marines" (he had 2 at that time...and we're talking 7-8 minutes into the game).

Anyway, he died shortly after. And so did I, of course.
By mass ling and infested terrans, no less. They really had fun.
(another mistake was making +10 templars, and forgetting to research storm...but that doesn't count, cause I knew I was dead 2 minutes into the game).

As I would most likely be forced to turn gay if there were no women in the world, I am forced to join pubbies when no one in op swbk wants to play me, and 2v2 games when there are no 1v1, and 2v2 "girls" games when there are no other 2v2 games.

Oh man, I just played a 2v2 game today, I was T and my ally was P, I fucked up on my split and only manage to send 2 SCVs to the mineral patch, then I finally realize that I had 2 idle SCVs and send them to mine.

Then while I'm building rax, a probe comes in and kills my SCV that was building it! But I was at the phone so I didn't notice >.< Then my ally gets super pissed at me and starts yelling " WHAT THE FUCK?! BUILD YOUR FUCKING RAX!" thinking that nothing happened to my SCV, I reply "I am".

Then the opponent sends 5 lots to my base, then I see that I have "NO FUCKING RAX!" Luckily, my ally comes in and saves me, but nearly all my SCVs were killed.

I resume talking on the phone, it takes me a while to figure out that I was in the middle of a game, but I resume playing. But my ally goes balastic " WHAT THE FUCK?! YOU HAVE NO GAS!!!" Being the uber SC player I am, I don't need any gas, just marines.

After several minutes, my opponents killed me, damn hackers! There's no way someone can get mass lings that early game! Anyway, my partner must have been really pissed...

funniest moments #2: building rax, scv gets attacked by probe, click scv hit escape and bring another over to fend off probe... look back and i'd clicked the rax by mistake and just cancelled it. i've done that when trying to rush as Z, as well. cancelled pool by mistake.

funny moment #1. i usually played Z, now i play T... but one time i didnt select race in time and ended up toss. was noob game so i'm, ok , ok, i can do this. it was 3v3. i'm like, ima wall in and fast expo, cool. tell allies what im' doing. all well. expo done. skip zealots go straight to range goons. cool. allies get attacked. i'm like, i'll save u, i can pawn those units. realise i'm walled in. toss buildings dont lift. goons can't fit through. oh, bother.

funniest things i've ever seen noobs do. T, LT, lifted buildings and flew to island... this was a 2v2 lol so we pawned his ally then he left.

and, most nooby of all: noobs with hacks. fastest map, this guy with stack hack stacks cannons in his choke, he also had zerg as well ! but we kill his ally then easily contain his noob and pathetic attacks.... however cant get past his trillions of cannons. so i do some quick tech. mass stack cannons<disruption web+reaver. boom, all gone in one shot. then our armies poured in.
