Correction, different melee AI's will even ally one another to fight you if the occasion occurs. On my 1st playing days at LAN's we tried some *Ugh (nowadays)* "comp stomps" and saw more than once beneficial spells cast on other race units - like D.Matrix, for instance - just for the fact that we were in battle against more than one AI at a time (and one of'em was Terran).

And Zerg_Eater, would it 'hurt' that much if you tried on your own for a couple of times before asking? :P

Adding from what everyone else said, melee was the one of the first game types on StarCraft. For melee on Battle.net, its starts off for free for all for each human player, unless players allie up in the game.

Zerg_Eater, this is getting annoying. If you have a question, ask yourself if you could find the answer on Google or if you could search the forums for similar topics. You've been here for a while now, you should know that you cant just go asking all the questions that pop into your head. Think for once, mmkay?

"Ooh whats melee?"
*Selects*
*Starts playing, prepares defense's not knowning what will happen*
"Heh, theres only terran on this map, i think i can take care of that easy marine rush.*
*Watches sunkens tear apart some marines, lose some in the process*
"ha! eat my tentacles! Err.... that was wrong."
*Then i see 3 more groups of marines rush in with medics*
"WTf? There teaming?"
*Loses game*

See thats how i figured out what melee was.

Tried a melee map against 2 comp opponents, witnessed rivers and rivers of endless zealots, hydralisks, lurkers, dragoons and zerglings as they -happily allied together- teared my base apart, lost

melee is mostly used for 1v1, 2v2,3v3 etc. in team games the people in same team just ally each other at the start.
