I just really got interested in this for Windows XP. I want to add everyone's computer in my house so we could share files and stuff. My sister's computer is already on the network for some reason. So, I all I have to do is connect the PC (which is connected to a printer I want to use) and my own laptop.

I have some problems though.
• Both my sister's laptop can access each other’s Shared Documents, but they can't see mine or the PC's.
• The PC can access my sisters Shared folders but not vise versa.
• Under veiw network places, when I try to connect to the PC it says

\\Gateway_system is not available. You may not have permission to view this network source. Contact the amid...

Login failure: the user does not been granted the requested logon type at this computer.

Can anyone help to successfully create a Network at my house? The real point of this is for every laptop to use the printer without going up and attaching the USB plug into it.

Btw, every computer uses a wireless connection to a router. We have a total of 4 computers. The laptop computer came from Toshiba, the PC came from Gateway.

Are the intended to be shared folder really shared in their properties? And does the network you created at your house have the same label in every PC connected (and all are headed onto the same address?) Other than these two at the moment, I'm goin' blank on ideas upon what the issue might be.

I right clicked on the Shared Folder icon on my computer and I checked 'Share this file on the network.' and 'Allow other users to change my files".

When I go to 'Set up a home or office network', I made sure they were all were set to the mshome network, does that you what you mean?

Thats everything I keep doing.

Disable all firewalls and see if that solves the issue. Restart both computers multiple times as well. From experience, restarting computers can do wonders to a network.

Okay toon, here's a few things you should do. First get off mshome asap. That is a very very unsecure network to be on, go to something like starcraft or something something unique to your family, (I use GTA). That way someone passing by just can't access your files on a whim.

What OS system are you running on computer? XP Pro is the easiest to get a network to work with.

The Firewalls can be a problem, so as bluemicrobyte said, turn those off for now, and restart.

Do you have Norton Internet Security by any chance?

If he's using a wired network, short of some stranger physically plugging into his router/switch, a "passer by" can't just start pulling files off his network. If it's a wireless network you should have WPA or WEP setup so it isn't an issue.
