I'm going to get Comcast in, like, two months:) . Right now I have AOL:mad: . AOL won't let me get on to Battle.net with starcraft, Play against other people on Igowin ( its a internet game that I have ), and itunes, morpheus and limewire can't download songs, plus I can't download anything from the internet:o . I called AOL and Blizzard and the Igowin place and they all told me that the only thing they can think of is that the Mcafee:mad: firewall that I have is interfeering with some other firewall, preventing internet games. I can't open Mcafee security center to turn off the firewall.
The reason for the name of this post is the sheer lack of answers i get from my other 2 threads that i have on this.
No, I will not wait for Comcast.:shiftyr:
Help, please? :(

Heh, if you're requesting help it's probably an idea not to command anybody about.
Anyway, have you installed Windows XP Service Pack 2? This installs a (rather ruthless) firewall. To disable it you have to disable the service (Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Services).

Also, head on over to www.windowsupdate.com to get all the latest windows updates including service pack 2 if you don't already have it.
See if you can un-install the McAfee firewall if you can't figure out how to disable it temporarily. Keep in mind that you ARE un-installing a security feature of your computer and that bad things *could* happen (but aren't likely to).
Finally, do you know if you're behind a router? Being behind a router can cause issues with some online games.
Firewalls, technically, aren't that important for the average user.
Goto the add/remove program list and just uninstall that mcafee crap and you should be fine.
I'd uninstall morpheos and limewire myself... I prefer torrents... less crap that way.

Btw, I've never realised how to fiddle around with *.torrent files either. I dl'em on my Shareazaa and then I need them for? (An FTP dl' is my best guess but ain't sure.)

Oh yeah, it might be a good idea to kill the P2P software while your computer is still working - from what very little experience I have with P2P programs like Kazaa, they MURDER your computer with a constant flood of viruses and spyware. Like Neo, I prefer torrents because they're more secure (or at least it feels that way) because you control exactly what files are downloaded (just like normal file downloads) where as with Kazaa it mysteriously installs spyware without your knowledge.
BMB, I'm sure that Shareazaa is sleazy stuff free. And so is my SoulSeek. ;) They never gave me a positive (on McAfee AV, SpyBot and Ad-Aware SE sweeps) and been using'em for almost 2 years.

The *.torrent file is just a list of what is in the torrent and directions on where to get it. You need to open it up in a torrent apllication like UTorrent, BitComet, BitTorrent (and so on) in order to download the files it points to.

Any program could install spyware without your knowledge. LimeWire and Morpheus do not, at least not anymore (previous version of LimeWire did). A good rule of thumb for getting a P2P client is to get it from Download.com, as they purge any software from their pages found to spread spyware / adware (or at least they claim they will do this).
Ninja, are you using AOL HiSpeed or Dial Up? I'd like to know as it will affect what type of information we need.
I would strongly suggest that if your using Shareaza or whatever its called you switch to uTorrent.
Soulseek is only good for finding rare songs -- otherwise, you don't need anything else.
I love being able to catch up on the latest episodes of Stargate and stuff when I miss them. Its very convieniant. XD

Will try it (with some stored *.torrents I have laying about), Modred. Thanks for the intel. :) *Gives karma*

Already have it setted up (alone in separate folder to ease control over dl's). ;)
And I do love some classics, so go figure... *Winks n' :smirk:*
Where may I get my hands on SG-1 episodes? I ask 'cause have missed a few lately... >_<
Oh cmon.
Google torrents for moogle's sake.

Most of the new episodes of Stargate SG-1 aren't worth watching anymore...*Sigh*
Guess Battlestar Galactica and Stargate Atlantis will have to suffice. *Cries* I miss Jack.

Ahem, As I was saying, just listen to the people above. They nailed it right on the head.

Gee thanks. I guess that that's a no karma then. :P

SG Atlantis? :o That's a new one for me... but I suspect that saw a glimpse of it (at M6, a French channel) when zapping through my TV at high night hours in the recent past. *Uncertain doubt*
And the Battlestar Galactica you spoke up is the original 80's series, right? Not some fancy redone, make over. :shiftyl:
