Is there any way to stop or block these? When I see I have a new pm I'd like to think it is somthing important that requires my attention, as opposed to a piece of spam-mail informing me my high score on Squares has been beaten...

I don't know if there's an answer for that Grim Terror, my guess would be no. But may I take this opportunity to say that some of the new PM features fucking rock and I have been waiting for them for a long time. Namely, 1) when you send a PM to more than one person, it shows everyone all the names of the people to whom you sent it, and 2) blind copy. :) thanks AJ please don't change it

Depending on how the forum was coded, it could take either a little or a lot of hacking.
And, w00t! I hadn't noticed the new PM features, I've been annoyed in the past that others couldnt see who I'd sent my PM to, but I also like the bcc feature for times when I wish to keep my recipients anonymous.

We can stop them, but that works on a global level (so we're not going to do it).
If you want to stop receiving them, stop having your high score beaten :D

Don't worry, it's only that one small feature I object to. The rest seem pretty good, but now I just got another one saying that it's been beaten again...

Don't worry, that is exactly what I intend to do. I gave you all a sound warning to give up while you were ahead when trying to beat me at Squares. Sometime in the very near feature I am going to show you why...
Sorry I missed this -- you can disable it individually in the "Your Settings" section of the arcade page.
