I just bought myself the X-fi Xtreme Music sound card, and unfortunearetly, it doesn't work. I correctly inserted the sound card into the PCI slot, and if I run the program that came with in the CD, it says that it can't find the supported hardware. Ive tried uninstalling the older audio driver i had for my motherboard sound card : AC 97. Ive tried switching the PCI slots.
When I run "Add new hardware", theres only something called Multimedia Audio Controller, but if I try to install that , it doesnt work.
The manual that came with the sound card says that I need PCI 2.1 slots, and I'm not so sure if I have that. My mother board is an A8V-MX , AGP.
Can someone please kindly help me out here, I want to actually use the sound card : /:concern:

When you first put the sound card in the computer, did windows give you a "found new hardware" popup? That should tell you if the card is being recognized by the computer.
From personal experience, sound cards might appear to not be working but the problem is that the drivers aren't correctly installed, or they aren't installed at all. In the past, I've been able to solve the problem by completely un-installing the drivers, then switching the sound card to a different PCI slot and re-installing the drivers.
As always, make sure you have all the updates from www.windowsupdate.com
You can also go to the control panel and click "Add Hardware" which will run a wizard that can detect new hardware that hasn't been installed yet.

Nope.
If i do go to hardware, this is what i get :
Im not quite sure if one of the two is the sound card, or if it is the sound from my motherboard.
Note: I just reformatted my comp for this, and no difference.

I got really mad and kicked my computer, and "found new hardware" just popped up.
Sometimes, its okay to use violence.
Note: This sound card really kicks ass.

1) those screens tell you exactly what's wrong, "The drivers for this device are not installed"
and
2) Grats, either you intimidated the computer to start working or face your wrath.... or maybe something was loose =P

Yeah, I've fixed failing monitors, messed up CD drives, messed up floppy drives, and failing-to-boots by kicking and or slamming my fist on the items in need.
It's probably bad in the long term, but as long as it works, whatever. Computers are strange things.

Im currently using my 300$ Bose Companion 3 speakers, and the sound card made a huge difference. Escp for techo and jazz. With jazz, the ride cymbal hits are much more crisp and clear.
If you already have the sound card, I think its worth spending about half an hour to install it. Well that wasnt exactly how long it took me, though.
