I dunno about anyone else, but I didn't see a thread about it on the first page, so I'm gonna say something. Lately, I've noticed a plethora of Google Ads which are advertising the buying of WoW gold. Did we suddenly start allowing them whilst I was indisposed? Or are they not supposed to be there?

I think it's because the bussnes of buying/selling WOW gold has gotten a lot larger latley. So now even a few warcraft related keywords trigger such ads.
And I havn't heard anything about not alowing them... (Just remember, though: If you click on one, you've just commited a mortal sin. ;))

I try to block them, but they just evade the censors. I spent months working with Yahoo to block them effectively but when they declared their censors working -- the next day I saw the same gold ads.

WarBoards isn't an official fansite of Blizzard's, so it's not breaking anything for us to show them, we don't support them, nor do we condone them. They are not allowed to be posted, but at this point, we can't do too much to block them.

Wow, Vhaeraun, I'm genuinely impressed that you have such an aware perspective of Warboards' image, and that you are pursuing its improvement. I had no idea people cared so much, how foolish of me :)

What's so bad about gold buying sites?

Gold buying sites violiate Blizzards terms of service, and even more so they damage Blizzards game balance.

Since Warboards.org supports Blizzard, we generally don't want to hurt their business or games in any way - which is what gold farming/selling does.

Is it that surprising? I've been on these forums since a few months after their inception. The least I can do is look out for the image of the community I've known for over 2 years now.

No, it's not surprising, it's just that I would have never thought to look at the specific content in the Google ads as a contributor to our image on the internet. But, you're right! It is an important thing to consider.

Aside from the reasons already stated, I personally get fed up with all the people who run these gold buying schemes that come over and spam our forums up with their crap.

I'm not supporting malicious activity, but we should get their IP addresses then pull some harmless, but annoying hack prank on them as revenge for bothering us.

That would not be nice and would be wrong. Jeez

Instead of that, we should phone their ISPs and Blizzard and report them. Since selling gold is against Blizzard's EULA, they could technically get pulled, although I don't know if it would work.

I suppose, I wasn't serious though, just bashing the gold farmers =P

Blizzard says that they listen to gold farmer/hacker reports, but they never, ever reply to specific cases. They simply say "thank you, we will investigate" and shove you out the door. I really hate that about Blizzard and that's why I've stopped bothering to report issues.

What about ISPs? By going straight to their ISP, the internet may be pulled from the user.

I think we should all click there adds as often as possible. None of us are going to buy there gold and they are still going to have to pay a very small amount for every click.

Get seal to pass around those clicking scripts, get 3-10 people to keep them running for a few hours.
