Are you trying to use the ORG Java applet? I just tried it, and it worked fine for me.

Do you have any firewalls running?

Where are you using the internet from? If it's a workplace, public library, or school, they may be blocking the ports IRC uses to communicate. This would explain why your connection times out before you get a connection.

I'm assuming that your uncle isn't self employed and doesn't provide the network access at the business (if he does do the networking, you should be asking him these questions =p). So, given that this is at a workplace, the most likely problem is that the ports used for IRC are being blocked. To test this, you should find another computer that uses the same network to access the internet. On this other computer, attempt to join IRC. If you recieve the same error, then IRC port 6667 is probably being blocked.

Some ETG servers will allow you to join on port 6665; however, I do not believe you can change the targeted port using the java client located here on Warboards. To do this, you would probably need a separate IRC client, such as mIRC, X-Chat, Chatzilla, etc.

ice, Modred is right. That's the error message you get when you are trying to connect but your ports are blocked. It might also be a range of ports that is blocked, and not just 6667. But it's worth a shot, I suppose. (Assuming the port is not blocked) you should be able to connect to etg using any of the ports 6665-6668.

Did you try getting onto it from another computer? If not, I still don't believe the network manager. If they aren't blocked, then it's something with your computer, meaning other computers should be able to get on fine.

On another note, have you ever used this connection and computer to get on IRC before?

BTW, your "leptop" is supposed to be spelled "laptop". That's the second time you've spelled it wrong.

ice, here is a sure-fire way that will tell you if your ports are being blocked or not. get on the computer you are having trouble with. go to start-run and type "cmd". then in the box type ipconfig. write down the number under "IP address" and PM it to me. I will try and connect on those ports and depending on the result we will know if your ports are blocked or not.

Hammock does port scans! He's trying to crack your computer! =p

Actually Hammock, considering they're on a private network, they probably have at most 1 or 2 public IPs, meaning he would probably report you a 192.168.*.* address, which would be useless for trying the ports. And then, even if he can get you the public IP, you'll probably be running into either a router or iptable filter, which could allow traffic out on those ports but prevent you from making a connection in on those ports.
