First of my router problems is that my router seems to be forwarded to my public IP address- This seems a bit dangerous as the password could be broken and the setup page for the router could be viewed by anyone. Not only that, but I cant see my local apache server page because of this.

Second, I recently lost all access to my router (I get a timeout error), when I tried to set a static IP/DNS (I cant remember what the label said). I was hopelessly meddling with the settings with the thought that I could make my network IP static (as it changes occasionally). I put in a network IP address (192.168.1.99), saved, and now I cant view the router setup. Help?

Done, I replaced all my old portforwards. Now, my first problem: I try and forward my server and when I enter my IP, I get my router setup page, not my server index.

Edit:
Okay, so I changed something, and I portforward port 80, and now I get a timeout error for the router (only when I enter my IP), when I disable that particular port, I can view the router setup page again.

When you make the changes to the router are you saving the settings that you have made? It sounds like your not closing the router correctly. I had a simuler problem when I was port forwarding and I thought it was working and then some one tried to get in and they could not so I had to go back and reset it up and I made sure I saved and then closed out the router correctly.

Bleh, sorry for the wording, I wasnt really concerned about clarity. Yes, I'm saving the settings.
Let me rephrase what I've done:
I have a router, and I want to set up an Apache server. I've done this before on a different computer, and it's worked, but that computer has long since fried and been thrown away. So, I set up the server, I get it running and I can access it via typing localhost and my network ip in the browser, but when I enter my public IP, I get my router setup page, which I normally access via it's network ip, 192.168.1.1. Well, I dont know why it's doing that, because I dont have it set up for remote access, and i dont have any ports forwarded for it's particular extention. So, when I forward port 80 for my server, I get a timeout error (after entering my IP in my browser), making me think that something's wrong and my server is competing with my router to be displayed. I just have to find a way to make my router stop displaying via my IP, and I think then my server's index will appear and everything will be okay. I just dont know what's wrong, or what setting I've changed to make my router appear at my IP, as it never did that before.

Well, port 80 is your internet port as you should know so it doesn't need to be forwarded since it's automaticly open by default. The reason it errored like that was it was conflicting with two different "open port" orders for the same IP.

I've never done a server before but I'll think a little on it and see what I can think of.

Mark, what brand of router do you have? U-238 is right the 80 port is your internet port and it is open by default. It's been a while since I played around with a router. Mark, you mentioned that you tryed to change your IP for your Router? I think that is the correct thing to do for the reason so the two items trying to access the internet won't be fighting over it. For a setup that I did at work I had to port forward the computers so they could be routed through a compter else where, and I had to change the 192.168.1.1 to a diffrent IP for the router. I'm remembering little bits and pieces of some other things I had to do let me look at the setup tonight and get back with you. One more thing you can pm me this but what is your IP address for your modem, you are running a cable modem correct? Or are you running DSL?Just PM. Because the setup I did is on a DSL line.

Well, if the router were sharing the same IP as my computer, which I doubt, then when I entered my network ip (192.168.1.60), I would see the Router page as well, no? But I dont, I see my server. I'm running DSL, and I wasnt aware my modem had an IP address O_o

Okay, here's the update

I searched around and there seems like my brand of router has something about it's own webserver on port 80, so I cant use it for my server. So, I try using port 8888, so I type my IP, colon, then 8888 in the browser and I still get the timeout error, even after forwarding that port. So, ? I forward the port, but i still cant view my server?

My firewall may be interfering, I use Kerio Personal Firewall, and I allowed all connection types for Apache, but this doesnt help. Kerio doesnt seem to want to let me open a specific port, just allow a program access. Help?

For a firewall I use Zone Alarm. I have not heard of keiro personal firewall.
Is it easy to configure?

Nope. Well, I a friend helped me out last night and said that he could view my server, but I couldnt becuause of some fluke. I guess that's okay, as it serves my purpose. In an odd sort of way- I guess it's fixed.
